Look at the Pharaoes, who are always depictet in front of their army, collecting prisenors or killing them. Homers "Iliad" is not a reliable historical source. The legend Homer, or Homer and perhaps a disciple, or a man not even named Homer, scribed was the product of generations upon generations of oral transmission. When the Iliad was scribed, it froze in time a legendary tale that had been subjected to the creative liberties, distortions, and reimaginings of countless pan-Hellenistic bards. There is no definable proof of any war having specifically occurred that fits the deacription of the one the poet accounts. There were countless battles and invasions launched in Troy (Anatolia of Asia Minor) by Mediterranean powers, led by different men at different times.
Histprically speaking, there was no pan-Hellenic force brought to the shores of Troy at any given point -- generations seperated these incursions, and some of the dynasties listed in the famed "Cataloguing of the Ships" in the Iliad did not even exist at the time of said conflicts -- the bards would work these kingdoms in to praise the basileus or wanax in the audience during the time of the poems performance, lol.
The Iliad also operates, as a historical piece, safely in the enigma of an "Age of Heroes" -- a time long preceding written history, wherein Hellenic peoples can revel in the superhuman feats and glories of their ancestors without the contradiction of historical texts. In the Iliad, as you said, leaders led armies and heroes cut down swaths of infantrymen, and much of this is true. The warlord system of ancient Greece was long predicated on the ability of a strong man to lead other strong men in combat, and sophistocated armour and arms were reserved for an elite class that woukd engage in "Heroic Warfare" -- these heroes would ride on chariots, cutting down unarmoured rank and file until they fought other armoured heroes, which would be the basis of many a song. *HOWEVER --* in the Iliad, we also see incongruous timelines and peoples, we see superhuman feats of strength or arms, gods mingle with men, and whole cities fall to the wraths of angered lovers. A perfect historical account? I think not, lol.
The themes are overarching as well -- the Iliad itself cannot be read literally. In much of the destabilizing times of the late Bronze Age and the Greek Dark Age (which the Fall of Troy is argued to herald), inter-city warfare would be waged amd lead to destruction. Homer directly parallels this in his wording of the Achaean encampment and Troy being like "two great cities on a grassy plain." The worlds of the poets (and i use the plurization deliberately) influenced their tellings of a legend they *WERE NOT EVEN ALIVE TO WITNESS.*
Again, this is all due to a salient lack of historical consciousness on the part of the societies constructing these legends -- the past, for them, is remembered in so far as it can serve the present. The cukts of heroship surrounding Achilles and Odysseus and Agammemnon are not historically scrupulous -- if Achilles had existed, nobody actually scribed his life in an autobiographical fashion. He, along with these other heroes, are products of a presentist retrojection -- their stories are remembered or manipulated to serve storiytelling in the *NOW.* Dramatic romance, deeds, decisions -- they are concerned with being relatable to people hundreds of yeads after this legend supposedly took place. It makes no sense to read it as an bonest telling of a Heroic past when it demonstrably correlates with an Archaic Age society (*which is when Homer wrote it and that makes sense, lol).* Before scribed history, tales lost their original form after 3 generations -- Homer wrote down his interpretation of the Iliad nearly a thousand years after it happened, in legend. We are not reading facts, we are reading a great story told by a great storyteller to serve a society a millenia after said events, which linger in Heroic enigma.
The Iliad is not the most famous work of literature because it is historically factual (though it does have obvious roots in a historical tradition) -- but because of the human spark in the story. Why do we care so much about some fight thousands of years ago in a land far away, more so than near any others? *Because the Iliad was the first poem that gave equal dignity to the invading Aecheans and the defending Trojans. The enemy was shown in a compassionate, noble, and tragic light. Gods and mortals, men and women, heroes and enemies alike are noble, villainous, vain, selfless, petty, true, cruel, and hopeful. As Emily Vermeule wrote: *"The Iliad may be an especially Greek contribution to human ideasof what poetry was for...[to show us, through this deeply human conflict] that we are all caught up in the same short life under the sun and face disasters in the same ways, gallant in failure."*
My original comment was simply a joke that came to mind by virtue of my having watched that abomination "Troy" 10K times. But your challenge, which i commend you for putting forth, has also helped me to construct a new thesis for my paper. Many thanks!

If only Ned had the sense all the way back then to send the truth about Robert's heirs to Stannis AND TELL NOBODY ABOUT IT. Not really. From his perspective, he prevented what would (at the time of Robert's death) essentially be a coup against the crown for everyone in the city. Same goes for Slynt.
At that point in time, I doubt either of them thought Joffrey would go all the way in executing Ned and causing total war. The milder outcome, where Ned is sent to the Wall, and Joffrey only has Stannis and Renly to worry about, suits Littlefinger pretty well.
He gets to take Starks down the notch, and he probably thought he could've had somehow gotten Catelyn to resent Ned for his mistakes and (supposed) infidelity and love him instead. If Ned thought about this more carefully, he would've realised that.

Out of all the Game of Thrones music, this was the most epic one to me.
Paul Prithu As cool as it sounds, i doubt it will be played for anyone but the Baratheons. Honestly i don't want it played for anyone but them, as it's Their tune. It would just feel a bit off to me if they played Baratheon tunes to a Stark. None the less, this song is awesome.

every season the stag sheds his horns. If one were to put on the crown then, it would grow its horns over the top. Alternatively you could have the crown on the horn since its birth
Perhaps to put forward the idea that the crown is rightfully theirs? It can't be removed from stag. Moreover, I don't think it has to do with shedding the horns as Vouilloz pointed out.
It is about my first statement/ question. Nobility is all about hereditary right, they are defined, if you like, within 'themselves' and their power status is also legally defined (as far as real history is concerned). Put it simply, true heirs to the Iron Throne.

What I tried to point out is that their stag makes more sense to me now, despite it might not have been associated with 'rightful' idea before (p.s I didn't read the books). And yes, you could argue Throne should go to Stannis of course since that the principle of seniority,but since Ned didn't manage to tell the truth then the new king Joffrey came as was the rule of primogeniture.
Doesn't matter if Targaryens were on the throne mate. France was ruled by three dynasties over the course of the Middle Ages, for instance.

The people who respect Stannis are the people that respect honesty, the only decent people in the show/books, people like Ned Stark, Davos, even Jon Snow, people who care about justice, duty, something other than personal gain, the ones who hate him, hate him because they can't buy him or frighten him into submission, he has fought for the kingdom and its people(not just the crown) so for me he deserves it, (and it is his by right.. of course)
I just like Stannis' character, I didn't like Robb Starks, though both could be argued as being "honourable".

Technically yes, but in the books there is a character named Edric Storm who is a acknowledged bastard of King Robert and cousin of Stannis' wife. So Edric would be full fledged noble, but a bastard still. So if some circumstances come around he could be recognized as Baratheon.
The Baratheons are basically extinct.The Tyrells are basically extinct (since Olenna can't have kids and has no other children). The Arryns have no heir and a weak boy as lord. The Tullys only have that weak fool Edmure left and no lands or power. The Starks are doing better, but they have no heirs, a Bastard, a cripple, and girls. The Greyjoys seem to be doing great though. Plenty of them left. Not for long though!

Two things. One: You'll Be Queen One Day is when Ned is talking to Sansa, so it is incorrect to call it a Baratheon track. Two: In Martin's world there is cruel justice. When Walder Frey dies his hundred sons will slaughter each other for his power. If you read the books, you'd have read the part about how the Walders are just waiting for their father to die. For slaying their king (and/or liege lord) they will wipe themselves out.
The Freys will lose their title though. The Riverlanders aren't accepting their rule.

Actually symbolises the arriving of the King Robert, which will eventually lead to Ned's death because of his incompetence as a ruler... it's not intentional, but Robert's the stag who forces Ned into Kings Landing and thus his death.

The books are excellent. It is a fantasy series, they usually don't get noticed by most people until television or film gets hold of them. I will warn you that they are very long, but they are some of the best books I have ever read. They really make the world come to life and the character development is amazing. If you like the TV series you will love the books. I can't wait for "The Winds of Winter" to be released.
