  • You should clean, oil and service your sewing machine regularly to keep it in good working order. I'll take you through the steps of how to do this first for a top loading bobbin sewing machine (Husqvarna Viking Emerald 118) and then for a front loading bobbin sewing machine (Frister Rossmann Panda 6 MKII). These steps will be similar for any branded sewing machine, but if in doubt you should check your machine's manual.

I collect and refurbish antique and vintage sewing machines. Many times when someone says the machine doesn't sew, it's because it's packed with lint, wound up threads, and filth around the shuttle and bobbin case.
Your Frister & Rossman is very similar to my1 980 Necchi--an Asian-made class 15 machine. A real workhorse, easy to service and repair, and among the last of the mostly metal machines.

Thank you for the instruction! It’s so simple to follow for my Viking emerald 118 than I thought!❤ A sewing machine store was going to charge me almost $200 to clean it up! Such a rip off!! 😒

Hi, Interesting. I have a Husqvarna Automatic (E20 I think) from around 1961 of so (the heavy green type). You are the first person except for the profesional I had servicing it that has said "oil it once a year" and "bee careful to not over oil". Every other channel about sewing I've come across says to oil it much more often than that. I'm going with the Husqvarna service center where I had mine serviced since it came to me a few years ago. The man in the shop works with these work horses of machines regularly, so I think he knows what he's talking about.
Incidentally, the name Husqvarna is pronounced HuusKvarna. How I know? Huskvarna, the town where it all started, is about 2 hours drive from my house. You always do such a great job with languages so I thought you might find it interesting. Yours, Ann

My Viking emerald 118 does not have an hole under the bobbin for oil. It’s just a metallic, circular disc. No hole in the center.

I have a question about the presser feet of the singer machines or in your case the generic pressers can be adapted to the husquevarna 116 smeralda machine? is that the singer 3333 has the same type of Stilt foot than the husquevarna 116. Is that possible or is there a difference?! Greetings and thanks for your videos

Hello, I will be honest, I have no idea. In my case, my singer feet are not interchangeable with my husquevarna, as the latter has a thicker presser foot bar.

Hello, I'm so glad you want to learn how to sew! There are plenty of videos on RUclips about how to use a sewing machine. My videos are mostly focused on hat making, so I'm not able to devote time to filming how to sew videos.
