    Hello everyone! So this video...please don't unsubscribe. I promise more sewing content is coming soon, but this is another part of my life I wanted to share! I also wanted to warn you that some vlogs are coming up soon since due to computer issues I've been unable to edit anything else. But I should be back to business as usual soon! :)

    • @AngelaClaytonCostumery
      @AngelaClaytonCostumery  5 лет назад +11

      These ones were just for the price of shipping (about $25 each since they were professionally packaged). You can see the cost of the figurines in general by looking at sold listings on ebay (www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_oac=1&_nkw=florence+ceramics&_in_kw=1&_ex_kw=GIUSEPPE%2C+ARMANI&_sacat=0&LH_Sold=1&_udlo=&_udhi=&_samilow=&_samihi=&_sadis=15&_stpos=11949&_sargn=-1%26saslc%3D1&_salic=1&_sop=10&_dmd=1&_ipg=50&LH_Complete=1&_fosrp=1) It ranges between $10-1000 depending on the rarity, but most go for less than $150 unless the seller is basing them of outdated price guides. I like the hunt of finding ones for closer to $50 though. It's rare for me to spend more than that.

      sioframay I was in jr hi in the early 60’s. We had sewing class! The best part of the whole deal was going to Woolworth’s to buy a sewing basket and all the goodies that went in it. For class we made a pleated skirt from cotton. Never wore it. Eventually, my older sister taught me how to sew, way better than the crabby sewing teacher ever did. But I could never master following a guide sheet!!! Therefore, I gave up! I was horrible too!

      OMG that's awful ugh!! It's so disheartening when family doesn't respect someone's dying wishes. I'm so sorry your great aunt disrespected you like that...
      That kinda crap happened to my family too.. my mom was able to ferret away 1 ceramic figure just after my great grandma died because she knew her aunt, uncle and her own mother were up to something. She'd asked her for it personally and was granted it long before the death so she wasn't going to lose it. 😤 it wasn't a fancy brand like these figures (that I know of haha) but she'd loved it since childhood and her love of it made me love it growing up too. It's still in our living room today. 💖

    I collect old books, they make me disproportionally happy and I don´t even have to read them to feel joy. My oldest so far is a first edition H.C. Andersen book from the 1870s.
    Love your enthusiasm!

    • @ventrexx7694
      @ventrexx7694 5 лет назад +8

      I've always thought that seemed like a cool thing to collect, but I'd be worried about handling them and damaging them. I do have a Bible (don't remember when it's from but I want to say '20s or '30s) I thought was interesting because it has some note in it that says "see you at the Golden Gate bridge" and had a little black and white picture of a girl stuck inside. I just thought it was interesting to think about what those things meant to the previous owner.

    • @Cationna
      @Cationna 5 лет назад +2

      WHAT I'm so jealous! I love Andersen and collecting old books (I wish I could say "antique", but so far they're vintage lol). Is it in Danish or translated?

    • @AlottaBoulchit
      @AlottaBoulchit 5 лет назад +5

      Wow!! That's a prize for a book you have! I love the idea of old books but my mom is more into actually collecting them. I think the oldest she has is a small palm size book that's part of a series. It's red and it had romance themed stories in it. I wanna say it's pre-1900s!
      The oldest books in my modest collection is a fairy-tale collections book from like the 50s/60s and an english Japanese folklore book from post war era. I enjoyed collecting fairy-tale and folklore stuff in my 20s. ^_^

    All that bubble wrap!!! I would be popping, stomping, or rolling around on it. LOL! "I bought her a little boyfriend" How could you not?! "I'm questioning the garment physics." I feel the same way when I watch animated shows/movies! Very cool to hear about how they did the lace, because I was so curious how it could be so delicate and yet stable. What a clever method! --- After Sewing Through The Decades, and your new Barbie series, you need to splurge on recreating a figurine (or 2 or 3 or...)

    • @AngelaClaytonCostumery
      @AngelaClaytonCostumery  5 лет назад +10

      I think I might be the only person who doesn't like bubble wrap, the noise drives me crazy! And one time I drove over a bag of it and scared myself silly because it sounded like gunshots lol!

    I may not really get the appeal of the figurines, but we all have things we are drawn to. I love weird wooden boxes and vintage sewing machines and have far too many. I'm glad you got something you love and will hopefully inspire you. And, yes, the amount of plastic is grotesque, but you not getting your packages won't stop or even make a dent in the problem, so feeling at all guilty is kinda pointless. It's still hard, though.

    I LOVE that little porcelain couch for Elizabeth! So sweet! Edit: Angela, when you are impressed with someone's craftsmanship, that means something! I've watched you grow as a seamstress for almost 5 years now and you are now truly a craftswoman yourself. Your skill is wonderful and I love that you were brave enough to post a video that is a little different

    OMG! They are beautiful!! I have 3 ladies, part of the Lenox huge collection. I love them dearly and really enjoyed this video. I also have a small collection of Hummels. I’m getting too old to collect figurines but I really enjoyed your acquisition. Thank you for including them.

    I enjoyed seeing you so happy over your finds, and I enjoyed learning more about the figurines you collect. They've very pretty. I collect random small stuff (silk flowers, colored paper, random beads, foam meat trays, etc.) that I can glue to my home made greeting cards for 3d effects. I've had to quit collecting things for display as I've run out of space!

    Love your passion. I collect genuine pearl jewelry to wear...vintage and not. I love how elegant they make me feel. I look for pearls at antique malls and thrift shops. I wear pearls every day, even while working in my garden. Keep up your wonderful work, Angela. You are very talented and interesting.

    Okay so I'm not particularly interested in figures, but your passion for these characters and your excitement was so fun to watch, and all of the dresses and incredible painting was spellbinding. I collect a lot of things too (mini glass animals, pins, books, shoes, the like), and I love watching other people with their collections.

    As a designer myself, I still collect fancy business cards actually. I know a lot of places don't feel like that it's a worthwhile item to spend money on, so when I do visit a cafe/restaurant/company and they have well designed business cards (with interesting paper stock/die cuts/embossing/debossing/foiled details/shapes etc) then I usually get pretty excited. 😊

    Love Love Love. As a little girl my Mom collected figurines, but also made her own with porcelain. As you spoke about the lace and gold leaf you sent me back 40+ years ago fascinated with watching my Mom make her dolls. I would never dare touch them. My Mom passed away in 2011. I wonder who has her collection now. 😍😘 Thank you for walking me down memory lane.

    These are adorable! What a lovely collection. I try not to buy anything these days because I don’t have anywhere to display. But at various times I’ve collected sheet music and other ephemera, mid century figurines, 20’s-60’s China and kitchenware, egg beaters...the list goes on. My mother and dad were antique dealers for awhile.
