I was in construction as a young man and i was building a set of brick stairs up to the front of a house on a hill. I was only up a couple steps when a car stopped behind me on the street. It was William Shatner. He rolled down the window and i could see him and a dog. He was genuinely interested in what, and how, I was building the steps. We talked for a few minutes then he left. He stopped by every day for the couple weeks i was the building them. We talked each time. He really was a nice guy and when i was done he congratulated me on a great job. He said something that made me think the last day i saw him. He said that my stairs would be there long after i had passed on. I said back, just like your TV and movies will. He smiled and said yes, you are right. He waved and drove up the hill.
I was at an auto show back in the 1980's at the Commonwealth Pier Exhibition Hall in Boston, my friend and i were walking around looking at the various cars and my friend mentioned to me that it was not an uncommon practice for some showing their cars to make them appear to be something they're not, like adding bumper and tail pieces to make a regular Charger into a look alike Daytona Charger and things like that, well i was crawling under the ropes and looking underneath some of the cars to see if that were true, i crawled out from under the ropes around one car and my buddy said "see i told ya" and at that moment someone behind me tapped my shoulder and asked "so whaddya you think about this one?" when i turned to answer, there was William Shatner staring me in the face, i took a double take and answered that i could see it was altered, he smiled and said "what a shame". All the while though the look on his face was saying "please dont blurt out Hey its William Shatner!!!". I didn't, and my friend and i continued on our way and he disappeared into the crowd. Well later in the day he was signing autographs and promoting the latest Star Trek thing going on at the time so we got in line and when we made it up to the table he was at on the makeshift stage he looked up and so "ohh it you guys! , I wanted to thank you for not giving me away in the crowd earlier! I don't usually get to do things like that" (wander around looking at cars without being fawned over i guess). It was really no big deal i guess, but my friend commented as we walked of the stage "wow, i would never had guessed he's just a regular guy like us" . There was a lounge type area in the building where alcohol was served and while we were standing at the bar, the bartender came over and put two shot glasses top down in front of us, i asked why because we hadn't ordered anything beyond what we were already drinking, and the bartender said "complements of your friend at the end of the bar", we looked over and it was William Shatner, He looked our way, raised his glass and winked. The End😂, Like the first guys story and what my friend had said, William Shatner, at least in this instance just seemed to be a normal everyday kind of guy, not a snotty full of himself TV/Movie star snob.
Leonard Nimoy went to Brazil in the 90s and he was received as a national hero,the president gave him honorary brazilian citizenship,he was elected sexiest man alive,thousands and thousands lined up to see their idol,he was in a state of shock at realizing that in some places he was adored by millions,he loved the country
I was six years old when Star Trek hit the Airwaves. Star Trek was a great show for its time and is still great. William Shatner and Leonard Nimoy took it to Beyond Awesome Territory along with the other actors but it was those two guys who were genuine and geniuses at their craft. Always loved those guys along with the rest of the crew.
I love both of these two guys. When I found out that Nimoy passed away I cried. I felt a part of my childhood go away with him because he was such a huge part of it.

I think staying active does a lot for extending someone's life, their health and their sharpness. I've worried about that with my dad, who used to have a high maintenance home in the country but now has settled in a new suburban house. He has nothing to do anymore and I think it's affecting him.

Leonard Nimoy is one of my all time favorite actors/people. (So is Bill Shatner by the way). I watched a documentary about Nimoy's life and fell even more deeply in love with him. I feel so sad whenever I think of it, that he is no longer on this Earth. On the same hand I'm forever grateful that we are still able to enjoy Bill with his great humor and sharp wit! I also try to watch everything I run across where Bill Shatner is talking. I fall more deeply in love with him too the more I learn about him. So glad I ran across this channel. They are both icons in their own right!
I had a friend, he was an actor, (a damn good one, pulling down better & better parts). My friend was dating Leonard Nimoy's daughter. Well, he & the daughter went their separate ways. My friend then married another girl I knew from Milwaukee. He took a part playing Tom Sawyer for a TV broadcast. They had a child that had some serious problems, & needed hospitalization. My friend gave up acting to get a job to pay for the bills. Leonard Nimoy found out about this situation, stepped in & payed the hospital costs. Wow! Not only are these guys my heroes, they were my first loves. I said when I was 10 that I was going to grow up to be Mrs Shatner. I didn't quite succeed at that but it's still on my bucket list. LOL I'm 47 now and I still love you both.

I cannot remember if it's in a book or an interview but Shatner tells the story of how, after Star Trek, he hit rock bottom in terms of his career. (Living in a camper.) That made him hungry and since then he just couldn't turn down anything.
Was in t.v. movies in 70,s, guest appearances on t.v. shows among others, his career must have picked up nicely soon enough, his financial insecurities, fear of poverty made him a successful actor and business man, author, writer, singer?, LOL. Lol.
Captain James T. Kerk, Mr Spock, Bones, Scotty, they made history because they always had "the right stuff" and somewhere along the way, they taught their generation and the ones that followed, how to have it too. I am almost 70 now, but I will never forget the thrill I got as a young teenager, when the theme of Star Trek played, waiting to travel with my heroes into a new adventure. God bless you all.
I used to read Arthur C Clarke and his characters had British names. which reflected his own time in the Royal Air Force. What I consider the names Kirk, McCoy, Scott - all Scots/Irish, not English. I think that was intentional - the characters feel free to express their emotions, not condescending or buttoned up.

Hollywood has been seat of humanity's single most educational use of media, and the most important component of that has been Roddenberry/Shatner/Nimoy. College philosophy insisted that I ask questions and think for myself. Startrek monitored and quantified all the sensory data a human being can perceive, and Fairfield communications grad school showed all of that commonly at our disposal in the detective work of exploring the future where no man's gone before, where in freedom under God the needs of the one outweigh the needs of the many.

I can not wait for this episode. I love watching Mr. Nimoy and Mr. Shatner speak with each other. For those of you who have not seen "Mind Meld", make sure you watch it. You can see and hear the genuine friendship between these two men in "Mind Meld".
They weren't friends for a very long time. Don't think they hated each other, just didn't get on later in life the way they used to. I'm glad they reconciled before Nimoy passed on though.
Makes me kind of melancholic seeing this. Leonard is gone. William is 90. I grew up watching Star Trek & the films. That’s one of the hard parts of growing older; the icons of your childhood & younger adult life begin dying off. Makes you realize how temporary everything is, including ourselves

What I appreciate about Mr. Shatner and Mr. Nimoy is how genuine they are. I've never met them in person, however based on what I have seen over the years through interviews, their activities and such, I feel that they truly are amazing and honest people :)
I LOVE William Shatner! I started loving him as a child. I sent him a letter when I was about 13 or so and I got a reply from his fan club. It was just a form letter with a stamped signature, but I was still thrilled to have gotten a response at all. I kept that letter for years until I finally lost it. I was pissed that I lost it. I still think he is so handsome! 😍😍
I just finished to watch Star Trek, original series, three seasons, I appreciate now more than I was a seven, eight, and nine years old. It is about life but with the ingredient of science fiction.

weirdly enough he was a sort of male symbol for a while, they even had a sexy magazine article on him. my grandma doesn't really like the show but her and all her friends were in love with him. I have seen a young nimoy in perry mason, twilight zone, and a few old movies and he was actually quite good looking. there's this episode of dragnet where he played a street thug and hot dang ;) (not a fan of the mustache phases tho lol)
Was talking to my son tonight about Boston Legal - and he said "Shatner was amazing in Boston Legal - he never got enough credit for making that show as good as it was." I had to agree - no matter what the subject matter, no matter how much people may have expected Spader to "take the scene" Shatner really got the character precisely right - convincing, believable, masterful. I've been enjoying William Shatner's work since the original Star Trek. We discussed how cool it would be to have Shatner and Chris Pine meet in some alternate universe Star Trek movie. I can dream....
I understand that JJ Abrams, Roberto Orci, et al., expressly dismissed the real Captain James T Kirk reprising his best-known role. I heard Mr. Shatner voicing his availability for just such a venture. The show runners evidently gave no reply.

William Shatner has been very successful because he is a very dynamic person. He is more than a "One Trick Pony." If not, his role as Captain James Tiberias Kick would have been his defining moment, his defining role. You can not define him because he brings a plethora of experience, interests, stories, energy but most important to him, LOVE. He feels everything in life, your choices, experiences, personal triumphs is due to LOVE. That is what he brings to the table, that is what he is about, that is who he is. That is why his fans flock to hear him speak 60 years later. They love him.
You don't here a lot about Leonard's life prior to Star Trek. I was surprised to see him playing a bar tender on an episode of Gun Smoke, and even more so as the character Paris on the series Mission Impossible.
Just saw him as a bank robber this weekend on Gunsmoke. He appeared in several episodes. I think he also played the part of an indian in one episode if I remember correctly.
I am so in love with Bill! ❤❤❤ he is so everything! His voice his eyes his swagger! His eyes! I Love his eyes! His enthusiasm! His quick wit. His ability to talk but he’s always so interesting. Spock is the man, plain and simple. He has that Clint Eastwood type effect. (if that makes sense) just has that special something about him. Can't explain it... What a duo... Just finished watching the latest ST remake.
As a child I remember my father watching star trek in 70s. I was star wars kid. Spent couple months in nova scotia in 80s. It was there that i got hooked. Everyday, 2 episodes back to back. loved it ever since
Let's face it William Shatner was Star Trek. Without Bill willing to do whatever it took to keep the series on the screen, Star Trek would never have developed into movies, and follow on series like Deepspace 9, and 2nd Generation. It was him willing to battle ridiculous monsters, and act through childlike adventures, that took the series definitely where no man had bodly gone before.
I don't think either of them would be easy to have a close relationship with over a long period of time. Both are/were super smart, bossy, opinionated, talented, and tell it like it is. Friendships come and go, wax and wane throughout your lifetime.
Bill Shatner is sometimes so misunderstood. I would recommend anyone to read his autobiography " Up 'til now". Fascinating and funny in equal measures. great to read the thoughts of the man who's been such a hero of mine!
Back in grad school my roommate asked, "So... Kirk or Picard?" TNG was in its third season, I think. I said, "I guess Picard." He said, "Gimme old James T." Now, all these years later, it's not even close. I was just wrong.
I was working when the original airing took place at 10PM, but I'll be watching (and taping) tonight's episode when it re-airs in a few minutes. I'm really looking forward to this!

bill i truly hope you understand the positive impact you have had on millions of your fans. growing up watching you, nimoy, kelley and the cast interact with each other and go on adventures in many ways was a stand in for the fact i didn’t have a father around. all the way from southern Ky and from the bottom of my heart, thank you sir. and yes i’ve watched almost every tv show and movie you have ever made… EXCELLENT!

Two human beings who have had such a positive impact on so many people.
Hollywood has been seat of humanity's single most educational use of media, and the most important component of that has been Roddenberry/Shatner/Nimoy. College philosophy insisted that I ask questions and think for myself. Startrek monitored and quantified all the sensory data a human being can perceive, and Fairfield communications grad school showed all of that commonly at our disposal in the detective work of exploring the future where no man's gone before, where in freedom under God the needs of the one outweigh the needs of the many.
Why doesn't this crap writer just quit beating around the bush? Ask why not rename the team "Progressive Democrats?" There is nothing whatsoever offensive about "Indians" to compare with the invective that will someday shower over today's remains of the once-great Democratic Party.

The Shatner Project is a really great idea, and whatever about mistakes of egoism in the past Mr shatnerr is now allowing us all to benefit from the wisdom and maturity. acquired over many years as a performing artist and observer of the human condition

They weren't friends for a very long time. Don't think they hated each other, just didn't get on later in life the way they used to. I'm glad they reconciled before Nimoy passed on though.

Yes they were and are. In the original days of Star Trek they had a few quarrels, but they are best friends now and have been for many years.

Makes me kind of melancholic seeing this. Leonard is gone. William is 90. I grew up watching Star Trek & the films. That’s one of the hard parts of growing older; the icons of your childhood & younger adult life begin dying off. Makes you realize how temporary everything is, including ourselves

What I appreciate about Mr. Shatner and Mr. Nimoy is how genuine they are. I've never met them in person, however based on what I have seen over the years through interviews, their activities and such, I feel that they truly are amazing and honest people :)
I LOVE William Shatner! I started loving him as a child. I sent him a letter when I was about 13 or so and I got a reply from his fan club. It was just a form letter with a stamped signature, but I was still thrilled to have gotten a response at all. I kept that letter for years until I finally lost it. I was pissed that I lost it. I still think he is so handsome! 😍😍

I just finished to watch Star Trek, original series, three seasons, I appreciate now more than I was a seven, eight, and nine years old. It is about life but with the ingredient of science fiction.

weirdly enough he was a sort of male symbol for a while, they even had a sexy magazine article on him. my grandma doesn't really like the show but her and all her friends were in love with him. I have seen a young nimoy in perry mason, twilight zone, and a few old movies and he was actually quite good looking. there's this episode of dragnet where he played a street thug and hot dang ;) (not a fan of the mustache phases tho lol)

Was talking to my son tonight about Boston Legal - and he said "Shatner was amazing in Boston Legal - he never got enough credit for making that show as good as it was." I had to agree - no matter what the subject matter, no matter how much people may have expected Spader to "take the scene" Shatner really got the character precisely right - convincing, believable, masterful. I've been enjoying William Shatner's work since the original Star Trek. We discussed how cool it would be to have Shatner and Chris Pine meet in some alternate universe Star Trek movie. I can dream....
I understand that JJ Abrams, Roberto Orci, et al., expressly dismissed the real Captain James T Kirk reprising his best-known role. I heard Mr. Shatner voicing his availability for just such a venture. The show runners evidently gave no reply.

William Shatner has been very successful because he is a very dynamic person. He is more than a "One Trick Pony." If not, his role as Captain James Tiberias Kick would have been his defining moment, his defining role. You can not define him because he brings a plethora of experience, interests, stories, energy but most important to him, LOVE. He feels everything in life, your choices, experiences, personal triumphs is due to LOVE. That is what he brings to the table, that is what he is about, that is who he is. That is why his fans flock to hear him speak 60 years later. They love him.

You don't here a lot about Leonard's life prior to Star Trek. I was surprised to see him playing a bar tender on an episode of Gun Smoke, and even more so as the character Paris on the series Mission Impossible.
He also appeared on "Get Smart", not sure on how many episodes.
He was also in the film, Them!
Just saw him as a bank robber this weekend on Gunsmoke. He appeared in several episodes. I think he also played the part of an indian in one episode if I remember correctly.

As a child I remember my father watching star trek in 70s. I was star wars kid. Spent couple months in nova scotia in 80s. It was there that i got hooked. Everyday, 2 episodes back to back. loved it ever since
Let's face it William Shatner was Star Trek. Without Bill willing to do whatever it took to keep the series on the screen, Star Trek would never have developed into movies, and follow on series like Deepspace 9, and 2nd Generation. It was him willing to battle ridiculous monsters, and act through childlike adventures, that took the series definitely where no man had bodly gone before.
Well it was Kirk, Spock and McCoy that we're the three main characters in tos, but yeah Shatner was vital
but without the unique character of Spock it would have fizzled over time. Spock gave it the mystique
Also the concept of a Earth Space Navy and a somewhat utopian future.

I don't think either of them would be easy to have a close relationship with over a long period of time. Both are/were super smart, bossy, opinionated, talented, and tell it like it is. Friendships come and go, wax and wane throughout your lifetime.
Bill Shatner is sometimes so misunderstood. I would recommend anyone to read his autobiography " Up 'til now". Fascinating and funny in equal measures. great to read the thoughts of the man who's been such a hero of mine!
Back in grad school my roommate asked, "So... Kirk or Picard?" TNG was in its third season, I think. I said, "I guess Picard." He said, "Gimme old James T." Now, all these years later, it's not even close. I was just wrong.
You are correct. Picard was more eh, like the executives of the 80’s and 90’s.
