  • How to learn backside laid-down turns, tutorial by www.FunCarve.com
A few steps to learn extremecarving turns. If you follow these simple steps, you can easily learn how to slide on snow. Your laid-down turn will be beautiful, fast and stylish.
It is very important to make all your movements as smooth in order not to lose contact with the snow. You must have a high level of vertical motion to bend your knees for the maximum amplitude.

Thats pretty impressive! I ride alpine snowboards and I have never seen someone in soft boots carve like that

    Great shit boys.
I could carve great in soft boots, but I never learned to lay them out any further than about 25, 30 degrees. Wish I still had 2 legs 8)

That's so phantastic, really insane :-) I'm riding a Korua Pencil board with softboots and I'm dreaming about learning extremecarving since I saw your videos. Hope to make huge progress this winter ;-) Thanks a lot for this tutorial Andi

As long as you can swoop all the way across the hill at top speed & travel like 4x more distance than a skier on the same slope... but faster... you're doin great. These guys are cool AF w that technique though. Super slick.

Critical angle of edging is dangerous because:
    - it's very big chance to touch the snow by your boots or by your bindings. It will particularly unweight the board.
    - the edge can cut off upper layer of snow, and board will carve another radius of the turn.
    - if the critical angles will be before you cross the "fall line" of the slope, it will reduce the speed.

I have tried to make this movement, but I think it is impossible with the frames in twin side position.

Hi, and many many thanks for your tutos, unique on the Internet...
My question is simple : what are the minimum binding angles possible to use your carving technique ?
On my (old) alpine snowboard, I was 45/40.
On my freeride one, I've 30/0 (i've small feet) and i love the ability of easy frontside turning "in place" offered by the low back angle...
But I'm ready to get a screwdriver if it's the price to achieve so stylish carving turns with my soft boots :-)
Thanks a lot for your answer,
    G.

great video! it helped immensely with my carving. one question... what exactly do you mean by "critical edge angle" in common mistakes? does it mean too much angle of the edge too early? thanks for the tips.

    • @Funcarve2012
      @Funcarve2012  9 лет назад

It's pretty tough cause the board won't bend to the right shape, but you should absolutely try to get as close as possible. It's what olympian pipe riders do more or less.

thanks for the tips! i always seem to get a lot of chatter going backside when i try to dig in for a carve. what is causing it? my binding set up is 0-rear and 25-front. just curious but what binding angles do you use?

25-0 not so good for softboot carving.
you should to do some experiments? and try angels about 30-20 degrees

  • @ottismartin8881

I was wondering what you would suggest for binding placement. I have the angles and width I feel the most comfortable with, but was wondering if I should try to maintain a 'centered' stance on the board which I have recently changed to, or if a 'set back' stance is preferable. I am currently riding 30 front and 12 rear with a width of 21. I'm riding an older model Sims 171 Search and it has a 2.5cm setback which I have been remedying by moving my front binding forward to the next to furthest forward holes while keeping my rear binding at the furthest forward holes. I ride mostly hard pack, occasionally packed powder, and when I have no other option, icy conditions. Deep powder is never an issue as the resort I ride at grooms every morning before opening, twice a day, once in the morning and once in the late evening on Friday and Saturday.

      Hi!
I think it will be better, if you will ignore the setback of your board. We recommend to set your bindings in symmetrical holes ondoard, just for the first time. When you'll feel the radius of turn in centered position, you can variate some adjustments. If you are ridin in hard snow, you can move forwards a little bit. It'll help you to control the board on high speed.
