It pays to follow this step by step. I used to take many functions for granted and/or never realized their value. Thanks a ton for this two-part video tutorial.
Excellent tutorial. I've been using Registax to sharpen planetary images for a number of years now, but, have never fully understood what the wavelet sharpening options really did. This video has filled in a lot of gaps in my knowledge. Very refreshing to have a tutorial that gets right to the point but misses very little. So many tutorials are padded out with so much 'waffle'. thanks again 🙂

Thank you for producing a much needed explanation of the more sophisticated portions of Registax6. Your time and efforts are appreciated and have have resulted in my better understanding of how to use this program more successfully.
Very well organized description of both autostakkert (part 1) and registax. Thank you. I'm trying to learn the different softwares to assist with planetary imaging and your tutorials are the most helpful and comprehensive. Nice description of options and examples.
All your videos are incredibibly informative and helpful. I'm especially grateful for this Registax tutorial, as its detailed explanation taught me how to use the program properly. Many thanks! By the way, I live in Leiden, and just started olanetary imaging about a year and a half ago. Cheers!
Thanks for the tutorial, I already use the app but always thought the colour align didn't work but now know I need to make the box to surround the planet so thanks 👍
Brilliant thanks. I've fiddled about with Registax for ages but never really understood what was going on - though I'm still a bit hazy on the 'layers' that the wavelets affect.
Wido, greetings from Ohio! I haven’t had my scope outside weeks since it’s been either bad weather or I’ve been traveling! I enjoyed your very nice tutorial on Registax 6. Having used this quite a lot last year I found everything you mentioned to be accurate and should be useful to people just starting to use this very powerful and almost magical processing software. The wavelet processing makes this software powerful in my opinion. I’ve mostly used the Diadic setting myself but often only used the first 3 wavelet filters. However, your leaning towards using linear plus linked wavelets seems like a great approach and I’ll be sure to try this myself soon. I don’t think you mentioned the gamma setting which I also use sometimes to bring out details in certain parts of the image. Hope all is well in the Netherlands and Clear Skies!
Thanks Martyn! I'm in Germany myself on an autumn holiday. I'll be checking out that gamma option, weather is pretty bad over here. Strong winds and lots of rain.
Thanks for systematically evaluating all the sharpening schemes in Registax 6. In general, does each layer do sharpening with a different "wavelength"? So layer 1 sharpens small features while layer 6 sharpens large features?
I think that depends on your wavelet scheme. If you're using dyadic then definitely yes. If you're using linear with an increment step of 0 it looks like all layers have (close to) an equal impact on the picture.
Have you imaged the full Moon? What settings did you use for it? These planetary values weren't very good for the lunar surface. Love to see your approach to a "mineral" Moon?
Hi I have learned a lot from you. However is it possible to stack overexposed images with images of jupiter to a final image with out the image looking terrible? Thank you
Is this software only for astronomy use. What if i have a normal video of low quality that i want to convert into a high quality still image. Can that be done?
@@AstroForumSpace no. I don't know what to do. I have A lot of problems with registax. first, I installed it from their original site. It said that it's not safe and it wouldn't let me open the file. Then, I installed it from another site. I opened it and I tried to attach a file to it but, it said "access at violation at address". Then I tried to attach the file again but, it said that the file does not exist.
Just having downloaded registax today, this proved very useful to understand the way it works. Thanks Wido. Appreciated.

Just Took The Video of Jupiter. Thank you so much. Now I can process better.
Glad to hear that, clear skies!

Thanks for watching and the positive feedback Bill, highly appreciated!
Best planet processing tutorial I have seen, so much detail explained so well, thank you!
Honestly the most useful tutorial for this program that I’ve come across, and I’ve been looking. Thanks!
Great to hear!

Absolute legend. Thank you for taking the time to create this video, you have enabled me to get the most out of my time spent imagining planets!
You're very welcome!
The best explanation of wavelets so far! Thank you for this great tutorial. And a very interesting channel on the whole!
Thanks for the positive feedback!

One of the best tutorial and nice attitude display from you doing your job
FANTASTIC tutorials.
Thanks for the tutorial, I already use the app but always thought the colour align didn't work but now know I need to make the box to surround the planet so thanks 👍
Great to hear you got some value out of it, thanks!
best explanation so far especially for me as a beginner thank you!

Very thorough tutorial Wido, very well explained !
Excellent tutorial
Tx!
Thank you very much for these two tutorials! For a beginner like myself this information is invaluable.
Great to hear!I appreciate your positive feedback, thanks!
Thanks for this detailed explanation of Registax. And thanks for your Jupiter video, I will practice with it 🤓🔭
Very useful video. Particularly as I am new to this.
I'm glad it was helpful!
Subscribed. Great video's watched 1 and 2 and found them incredibly helpful
Excellent tutorial, thank you!
Another great job!
Thank you Jeffrey!
This is awesome!
Just fabulous, TY
You're most welcome
Outstanding video
Thank you so much 😀
Amazing tutorial! Great!
Thanks Matheus!
Really great tutorial! Thanks!
You're welcome.
Your back! Hope you enjoyed your break
I'm in Germany right now Ricky, the wonders of RUclips 😉
@@AstroForumSpace Oh i thought you would have taken a break from here too!

Fantastic video. Explained Registax in a much greater detail for me. Are you going to do a video on Autostakkert anytime soon?
Thanks! Yes, this is part 2 of this tutorial here's a link to part 1 where I discuss Autostakkert: ruclips.net/video/g67DfADSWvA/видео.html
@@AstroForumSpace Thanks! Just found it and it's brilliant. The best I have found.
Hola, Wido! Thanks for sharing and being so thorough, I’ve learned a lot. Hey, one question, what camera and scope did you use?
Thanks! Edge HD 8" + ZWO 178MC with 2.5 Barlow.
Have you imaged the full Moon? What settings did you use for it? These planetary values weren't very good for the lunar surface. Love to see your approach to a "mineral" Moon?
Yes, the moon is completely different. I often experiment with the first and second layers, that's already enough to sharpen your picture. Good luck.
Hi
I have learned a lot from you. However is it possible to stack overexposed images with images of jupiter to a final image with out the image looking terrible? Thank you
Why would you wanna do that?
@@AstroForumSpace have a final picture of jupiter not overexposed with the overexposed moons
Good Idea to make these videos….as many people find this quit difficult.
Amazing
Thank you! Cheers!
Hi beautiful tutorial
Question: I’m using old analog avi astrovid planetcam
Can I use it for stacking
I have dig converter to 4k resolution?
Sure, no problem
Is this software only for astronomy use. What if i have a normal video of low quality that i want to convert into a high quality still image. Can that be done?
See my tutorial about autostakkert
I installed it when I tried to attach the file it said access at violation adress
Did you solve this issue?
@@AstroForumSpace no. I don't know what to do. I have A lot of problems with registax. first, I installed it from their original site. It said that it's not safe and it wouldn't let me open the file. Can I ask for a favor? The subtitle language appears to me as automatic for Dutch (?)🤔. Could you switch to English? Thank you very much.
unfortunately not, RUclips has an autodetect language, it frequently chooses the wrong language for Dutch vloggers...
