The standard of performances from this festival is simply phenomenal, some of the best available anywhere - and so consistent. that note at 9:09 is quite something.
Mozart's Oboe Quartet does not need my endorsement: It is universally acknowledged as THE oboe masterpiece, period, full stop. The jaunty playing by these 4 musicians is what chamber music ought to be: With a fleeting glance and a satisfied smile, they demonstrated that they like each other and really enjoy playing music together. How lovely! Occasionally one sees a group of musicians who appear to be disconnected from each other. A sad sight. This was exactly the opposite, and what an extraordinary performance they gave! Thank you so much for a first rate performance of a first rate composition.

Faultless, elegant musicianship, bringing out a freshness in this fine piece that makes it sound, somehow, as if Mozart were still with us, & just composed it yesterday. Otherworldly technique on the oboe. Thanks to all.

Bravissimi! Beautiful execution of a Quartet that I love since...long time! Bellissima esecuzione di questo Quartetto che amo da...molto tempo! Ciao a tutti gli Amanti della Musica
How the audience refrains from any exclamation of joy or amazement, is beyond me. It's like watching a magician levitate a stone, not a few feet away from your gaze.
Oboe Fans!!! This was a great moment for me!! Can not remember last time i did hear a player like this, only the tempi is to fast for me. But the player and HIS sound is great. I have my recording on LAWO REC. Cd. LWR 3001 Regards Brynjar Hoff
In early 1781, Mozart was in Munich where his opera Idomeneo was premiered. He wrote the Quartet K.370 for Friedrich Ramm, principal oboe in the Bavarian Elector’s orchestra. “His dazzling career led to appearances in Italy, Paris, London and Berlin. Later he played chamber music with Beethoven.” This piece is full of virtuosity, and the oboe is pushed to the limit, especially in the upper register: the piece ends with a (rare) and thunderous F6. Mozart had met Ramm in Mannheim at the end of 1777 and was immediately captivated by the quality of his sound, which seemed to him to be of a ravishing purity. In this work he discovered the intimacy of chamber music: he avoided concertante writing by finding many subtle ways of integrating the voices, notably by carefully interweaving melody and counter-melody. The second movement is an aria in D minor of great emotional force, only thirty-eight bars long. The final rondeau features an extraordinary episode in which the oboist plays in 4/4 time while the strings continue their accompaniment in 6/8 time as if unaware of it. This section begins very ominously in the minor, and the tension is only relieved by the simultaneous return of the major mode and the compound measure. The reprise of the rondo theme shows Mozart’s taste for the high register of the oboe, as evident at times as his notorious predilection for the low register of the clarinet.” -All about Mozart

When the oboe starts quacking at 13:38 this is the best bit. Mozart has a a habit of adding a bit of unexpected icing at the end of a piece when normally there is a natural end. Well played.
Stunningly beautiful playing. Oboist just ravishing sound and also wonderful expressive movement esp. in the slow movt. A tiring piece on the embouchure. I could watch it over and over again.
I love the way the musicians move with the music. I believe all musicians do that, but these folks move more freely and enthusiastically than most. It's a style, like other styles, but this one is great fun to watch. They seem to enjoy it so much!

And I just love here how the oboe can really differentiate from the strings as well as blend in so well !
The best one I've ever heard is the 1st mvt of string quartet K.387. He searches for a theme to develop, and then ends up developing the "searching" music
@@deluxeclavier345 Not the K.465? Not that I'd ever accuse Mozart of searching, of course, or yourself. :) Just thought that Dissonance beginning was quite inventive; 1st hearing, I thought maybe Schoenberg, Webern (?). Amazing, regardless, not so?
Me too! I first heard this piece of music when I was 18, and living in Athens, Greece. It was a beautiful, sunny day, and I looked at the Parthenon from the balcony of the flat I lived in and heard this beautiful piece of music for the first time. It always reminds me of being 18, on a sunny day, in Greece, looking at the flowers in the balcony and the Parthenon in the distance.

This quartet for oboe and strings is in my opinion better than the qurtets for flute and strings, written for a Dutch flutist, M; Dejean. The writing is more firm, the melody is deeper, the equilibrium brtween the si oloist and the strings is ore subtle. . Especially, the second movement goes rather far in the musical feeling. The interpretation is excellent. Note that the cellist is Sol Gabetta.
You might be right there. Still for me the Adagio from Quartet K 285 in D major is UNIQUE!. Although the Adagio from this quartet has another language that you might say is more complex, still less fresh, but more meditated, equally beautiful in another way.
I agree with that - though the first movement of the first quartet is like the first breath of spring and one of my favourite movements. But the oboe quartet is perfection itself
