Nice job planting the lilikoi! I think it will do well in that spot. Thanks for reading my comment! I do have a lot of Lilikoi fruit starting to ripen. I am going to try making a Lilikoi pepper jelly.
Yay! Thank you for this video! I'm just about to build a trellis for my new passionfruit plant! I'm still trying to decide where in terms of sun exposure. I love the idea of the buried container!

Hi Kathleen, how fun! I just learned mine is a purple variety as well. Yes, it grows like crazy, hope you have a big trellis for it. Keep me posted on how yours grows, and stay tuned for updates on mine. Thanks for stopping by!
Hey Cali Kim! I’ve always been nervous about trying tropical plants and tend to grow things I know will be successful. But I did try growing lettuce this year and your seeds are working great so far! Thanks for all the tips and videos. You really help us all so thank you! Happy holidays
If you ever need to repot something from a fabric pot, lay it on it’s side, push, roll, push, roll. Do that all the way around the outside of the pot, give the bottom a couple good slaps and it comes out. It kinda needs to have a sturdy stalk to do it, though. I wouldn’t do it with something like a tomato because you’d likely break it, but a fruit tree or vine like grapes should be no problem. Good luck! Sure wish I could grow tropical fruit up here :)
Passion fruit makes a great juice. I sell it at my food store. Many people don't know that the drink is very refreshing. Very common in the Caribbean islands.
My favorite juice back home in Africa, mix it with orange juice. Ofc we used fresh fruit all the time and it was the best thing God ever created to juice
I just got a passionfruit plant yesterday from Logee's and I am excited. I'm in 6B Connecticut and got a Maypop because it's hardy in my zone. Hoping for fruit.
Hello Kim, my strawberries are doing good but I have few questions. 1.Should I trim off the old red or brown leaves from my strawberries? 2.I replanted them from my balcony garden to my green house and is that good in the winter days? 3.When should I water them in my green house because here the temperature is about -5 to -11 C. 4.Is it good to put old leaves around the crown to protect it from cold

@@CaliKim29 hi! I live in Middle TN and only had the vine growing up on my fence line in one spot. I knew the flowers were edible, but didn’t know much about the entire plant. I didn’t know much about herbs in general and then I educated myself and boy oh boy am I glad I did. I have raised garden beds and kept one bed unplanted ‘cause I wasn’t sure what to put in there and I kept putting off planting anything and to my surprise, one day went out there and a passionflower had bloomed and I was so excited that I have yet another source of this amazing herb. It’s amazing to make a tea out of (I just pop some of the flowers in my mouth when out walking) the relaxing properties of it is absolutely incredible. I’ll be sure to check your channel out to see if I can get some ideas with other herbs etc. thanks for writing back that’s awesome!
@@CaliKim29 on a side note: I only pick the flowers at late afternoon so the bees have a chance to collect their pollen :) But I do pop off all the bloomed flowers for my tincture and if I don’t pop em off then they will turn into the maypop fruit and I don’t care for that as much as I need the flowers for medicinal purposes. :)
Thanks for this video I live in New York and I planted 1 passion fruit in pot and I noticed a beautiful flower yesterday and I am very excited but I do not know how to keep on winter time. I am planning to bring inside that is why I am trimming about 5-6 feet. Please any advice appreciated. And I am happy I found you 🙏👌God bless you
Passion fruit is one of my favorite fruit. I'm so glad it's prolific in Puerto Rico where I live. Doesn't taste like a guava, which can also be prolific here. Very different taste.
In my experience the “air pruning” only happens when the roots hit air. My bet is that roots will pass thru that fabric like it wasn’t even there. Please let us know in a year. :)
I think the same. I've seen plants grow through fabric easily. The air pruning likely won't work if the roots don't actually hit the air when they try to expand.
Hi I hope to hear you soon, as I have passion fruit, only one plant and it's so bushy flowering at the moment but I never seen fruit at all, flowers don't turn into fruit. Should I just cut it down?
Cali there are 2 types of passion fruit ---1) the small purple fruit one the size little bigger than golf ball and the taste is medium sweet to tart 2) the orange coloured fruit which is the size of an naval orange and is commonly called “ Granadilla” and is more juicy and very very sweet --please try and grow both types. The type that you refer to as tasting like guava is commonly grown in Brazil and has a lovely aroma of a guava just coming from the fruit when you pick it .
It might be invasive in Hawaii, but it's not invasive in Phoenix Arizona. Yes, it still grows like mad and it will wrap it's tendrils around any other flora you have nearby, but I think invasive is still a pretty strong word. If you cut off its water supply here, it will die fairly easily. California, would probably be middle of the road, maybe more invasive than Phoenix, but also not as much as Hawaii.
Appreciate your kind words, Jeanie, it really meant a lot to Jerry! Hope your garden is thriving - growing your own veggies is so rewarding! Thanks for watching!
Hi CaliKim and Jerry!🤗 Jerry had his hands full with the camera and helping you! Great job, CameraGuy, nice hole for the smart pot! Your passion fruit grew fast and with fruits on it already.🍈🍈 Wow!😊 That was a great suggestion to put the smart pot in the ground!👍 Stay blessed🙏 and safe! 🦋12/6/20🦋
Hi Kim, I love your video. I live in Panama and these are abundant here but new to my property. How did your plant do? I have 2 pots but they haven’t flowered yet. I’ve had them for about 6 months. They were bought from someone else so I’m not sure if they needed time to adapt or what. Hopefully I’ll get some flowers & fruit. They’re beautiful anyway.
So what's the results? did it help control the plant? Smart pots help prune the roots because of air pruning, but if you put that smart pit into the ground, then the root is no longer pruned. At least that's what I'm thinking would happen
a small part of the wall of my garden is almost 5 meters high, and 10 meters long... wonderful, because I am sure they will love it, don't you think?!?
If you plant it in a sunny location, it'll attract the Gulf Fritillary Butterflies. If you plant it in the shade, it attract the Zebra Longwing Butterflies You may want to plant a good amount as if you're having a good butterfly season, the caterpillars can strip the plant 😅
Thanks for the info -good to know the difference between sun and shade. Looking forward to the butterflies, maybe they will keep the plant under control. I have a feeling I might plant some more cuttings as time goes on! Appreciate you stopping by!
I've had a Passion Fruit plant for over five years and have not received any fruit. It use to grow wild on the edge of my parents woods in Alabama. My sisters and I would enjoy the fruit, which are actually called "Maypops". Now I live in Iowa and the plant I ordered grew pretty purple flowers, but they would not produce. Now the plant doesn't even flower. It is in my greenhouse now. Because you mentioned the large root system, I think it must be in too small a pot, so I will transplant it into a larger smart pot and let you know how it goes.
There are "non-fruiting"varieties of these, maybe you have one of those?do you get flowers?they can be hand fertilized with a paint brush,or similar, you may be missing the natural insects(butterfly) that fertilize them.best wishes
How did it go planting them in those planter bag things? Did it still grow tall and over the structure? Do you recommend / not recommend certain planter bags? And what size bag would you recommend for a trellis of similar size to yours? Would you do anything differently? Thanks. I want to put a 4’ x7’ trellis against a wall of my stucco house but I am afraid if I plant it in the ground its roots will grow out into the lawn. Thanks.
This was an experiment, SmartPots didn't do well in the ground... I took them out of the SmartPots and directly into the ground, and they did great. Nothing wrong with SmartPots...but now we know! In the future, I'll plant them above ground. At least a 20-30 gallon bag and it may not be as productive as in the ground!
I live in the Beach Cities area of Los Angeles I have 3 vines (Fredricka) that span about 75+ feet on a fence. I literally get 800-1000 fruit a year. They explode with fruit after using fish emulsion. Best of Luck! 💛
Why my passion fruit keep dropping flowers? I hand pollinated when bloom. I water and feed them. Three or more weeks. Flowers still dropped to the ground. Did miss something?
Wish I had room for passion fruit in my tiny garden. I love the fruit! Are you not concerned that the edges of the planter sticking out of the ground will wick moisture out of the root area?
Hello, yes, passion fruit does take a lot of space. Perhaps you could grow some fruit that is more space friendly, such as strawberries! I've used Smart Pots for years, the porous fabric allows the roots to get more oxygen, and develop beautifully (as you see in video) more roots=more fruit. Due to the airflow, the soil does dry out a bit quicker, but worth it for the difference the airflow makes to the roots and fruit production. The drip irrigation will keep the soil moist. Passion fruit don't like to be too wet, and the fabric container will allow excess moisture to drain right through. Thanks so much for stopping by!
Thank you for your video. I had one passion fruit tree, a lot of blossoms but no fruits. Saw many ants inside the flower. Did those ants eat my fruits? 🙏
Thanks for the video. I have one passion fruit plant which i let it grows on the fence and it really goes crazy 😜 and produce a lot even without proper care. May i know how old is your passion fruit plant when u doing this replant...?
Can I get some advice how to fix the problem of my passion fruit falling leaves and turning yellow. In where I stay is winter now. Temperature hit 30 to 40 at night. It’s in a pot and inside a gazebo night time.
I usually let mine grow pretty large in the summer and get plenty of fruit. Experiment with trimming it close and see how much fruit you get. For container growing, I'd recommend at least a 30 gallon container, or grow a dwarf variety, and it may do well in a planter box. Experiment, do your research - that's the fun of gardening! Let me know how it goes!
Do you know how long till passion fruit vine will flower? I have one I’m growing outside in my apartment patio in a container since 2022. I’ve recently started feeding mine kelp and blood meal since this spring along with all purpose liquid fertilizer every two weeks. I put mine in a partial shade spot and only leaves are growing.
If you’re growing passion fruit vines from seed, it can take anywhere from 12 to 18 months for the plants to mature enough to flower. Sometimes it may even take up to 2 years. Plants propagated from cuttings or purchased as young plants from a nursery typically flower sooner, often within 6 to 12 months of planting. Passion fruit vines thrive in warm, tropical, or subtropical climates. They need plenty of sunlight (at least 6-8 hours of direct sunlight per day) and consistent temperatures. They prefer well-drained, fertile soil rich in organic matter. Soil pH should be slightly acidic to neutral (pH 6.5-7.0). Regular watering is essential, especially during dry periods. However, avoid waterlogging, as it can lead to root rot. Use a fertilizer that includes phosphorus to encourage flowering and a high-potassium fertilizer during the flowering season to promote bloom formation. Do any of these suggestions jump out at you, like "ohhh, I'm didnt know I should be doing that?" I hope this helps!! CaliKim
@@CaliKim29 yes indeed! I’ve been using kelp meal since last year since it contains potassium and sprinkle a few tablespoons around the base of the passion vine, scratch it into the potting mix, and then water it throughly. I do have a fertilizer that specializes in bud and root development so I’ll start using that and look for a fertilizer high in potassium since I’m almost out of kelp meal, thanks 🙏
I have been trying to grow for the last 3 years but so far killed 3 plants 😥. This last year I thought I had done it because it was growing well but then here in AZ we had a brutal summer with a record number of days over 110 degrees. I was told it would cover a 40ft fence easily. Also that the best time to eat the fruit is when it drops off the vine and is brown and wrinkly.
Hi Michaela, oh no! Hope you still have some left to try again. Maybe in partial shade to protect it from the heat? Thanks for the harvest suggestion, will definitely bring everyone along for the progress of this plant. Thanks for stopping by and good luck!
I like this plant but honestly I would prefer to grow it to the side where I can look at it , compared to growing it above me where I walk under it, because of the potential of caterpillars dropping in on me.
Hey guys, in some countries Passionfruit has the same meaning as Mistletoe around this time of year. Looking forward to a nice Holiday family shot under the Passionfruit. Don't forget Mac! :-)

Oh wow, sounds amazing. Thanks for sharing your experience with passion fruit, Doris. Stay tuned for more!
Looking for an update on your passion fruit
Great job
Hi Kim
How long you plant passion fruit vine when you already got some fruit ?
I just started up a Jamaican pink passion fruit.
Nice day,kim.❤the content you made
Glad you enjoyed it, thanks for stopping by!
Can we keep them in a winter zone
How narrow can you keep it trimmed to a flat trellis and still get fruit? Can I be grown out of a plantar box?
Sounds wonderful! Keep it going out there! CK
Hi kim i have passion flower dropping problem can you tell whats the problem
How's the passion fruit doing after a year !?
Why my passion fruit branches became yellow after harvest. ..what can I do
Does it produce fruit the same year it is planted?
I like this plant but honestly I would prefer to grow it to the side where I can look at it , compared to growing it above me where I walk under it, because of the potential of caterpillars dropping in on me.
I did not see any tubing connected to the drip irrigation tubing. I don't like when you can see the tubing going into the hanging basket.
thank you!
Hey Kim, what wireless mic do you use?
Hey Kim I know it’s been a while I just wanted to say hi I haven’t been able to attend your LS😔 take care😀
Hi Fresh Landscape - great to see you, we've missed you! Hope all is well - Thanks for the visit!
Hey guys, in some countries Passionfruit has the same meaning as Mistletoe around this time of year. Looking forward to a nice Holiday family shot under the Passionfruit. Don't forget Mac! :-)
Sounds fun, Craig! Stay tuned for more!

Hi Kim & Jerry, it's always great to see you guys together in the garden. Omg, passion fruit looks amazing that arch trellis will fill up. so I don't know what variety is this passion fruit is called but the color will be purple, it tastes sweet and sour. Am so excited for you guys!! It's really delicious fruit but I love the juice made out of it. Once they are ready you should try it out. :)
Hi Nisha, thank YOU for the cutting, excited to have a bit of your garden in mine! So glad you enjoyed seeing it, we'll be sure to try the juice, jelly and whatever else I can think to make out of it. A friend suggested tiki cocktails! Stay tuned for more!

Hi Kim! I love passion fruit. I got the seeds but bugs are relentless here in Florida.

Try BT (bacillus thurigensis) a natural fungus that kills only caterpillars
Thank you
You're welcome! CK
My passion fruit plant flowers a lot but it doesn't produce any fruit; I don't know what to do. Any suggestions?
Hi Yolanda, could be from lack of pollination, or perhaps too cold? I'm learning along with you! Thanks for stopping by!
I use an old eye shadow brush to hand pollinate, and I get so many fruits every year! I also put Dr. Earth fruit tree fertilizer every 2-3 months.
I want grow passion fruit I got seed but don't t plant thrm
lovely video
Glad you enjoyed the video! Thanks for hanging out with me in the garden today, Steven!
I would love to grow that
Can I grow the passionfruit in a 40cm pot?
I'd say that's still too small. You would need at least a 30 gal. container and a big trellis! Hope this helps, Carmen!!! Kim
