  • The Croatian pianist Maksim Mrvica once played the "Flight of the Bumblebee" by Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov in just 56 seconds. Maksim Mrvica became known as one of the fastest pianists in the world. But he's not only fast. Mrvica‘s crossover interpretations of classical and popular melodies are full of character and power. With more than four million albums sold, he is also one of the most successful pianists in the world.
Maksim Mrvica comes from Šibenik in Croatia. At the age of eight, he discovered the piano at a friend's house and fell in love with it and with classical music. When he was 15, war broke out in Croatia, which was then part of Yugoslavia. During that period, he developed an even stronger connection to music and the piano. His music school was shut down, but he continued to have lessons in a basement.
Despite the horrors of the war, Maksim Mrvica was able to prepare for a national piano competition in Zagreb. Later he studied classical piano in Zagreb, Budapest and Paris and slowly but surely made a name for himself as a virtuoso.
Meanwhile Maksim Mrvica plays concerts worldwide. His greatest success has been in Asia. In Japan and China, he plays shows with lots of effects in large concert halls in front of tens of thousands of spectators.

I heard him in Dubrovnik in 2007, performing just classical repertoire. As piano player myself, I can say his playing was astonishing. An exceptional talent indeed.

He is my favourite pianist. If he ever comes to Vancouver I would love to go to his co concert . As I have COPD time is kind running out on me and depending on the venue I might not be able to Attend it as I’d probably be in a wheel chair on oxygen. Thank god for utube. I reached level five in less than 3 yrs and a lady was willing to help my parents financially to send me to the Royal Conservatory in Toronto but we were dirt poor and I wanted to play Rock and Roll but the teacher said no way so I like a fool got mad and quite. 60 yrs later my wife and daughter made sure I got a keyboard so I spend countless hrs learning theory and memorizing pieces I love. I have spend countless hrs watching his videos and have learned how to play a few of his runs and chord progressions. The world of music is so blessed with his music. Two yrs before I got my keyboard I nearly lost my arm below my elbow but by Gods grace a surgeon was able to reconstruct it as I had only 1/4 inch holding it on. Music is my passion so I will play as long as I can and try to encourage anyone that wants to learn any form of music and gets discouraged to never never give up. I did and it has been the biggest regret n my life but miracles do happen and I’m back playing to the best of my ability and it always challenges me to push harder. Thank you Maksim you have changed my life and for that I will always be indebted to you. ❤❤❤❤. God bless.

Ive seen him in my hometown, Pula, Croatia in Vinkuran. The venue is an Old Roman quarry used to build Pulas Arena (old Roman Amphitheatre). The acustics was amazing, he was brilliant.
