"This took me ages" - ah yes, same here. I left poor Trahearne... uh, hanging for about 3 or 4 years, because I couldn't bother doing the last few story bits in TD and DS, and they were so quick and easy (and the saladbolging wasn't painful at all either)
For newer players who aren't overflowing with Ascended crafting materials (like me), it may not be easy to get a Vision Crystal required for this. Easiest way is to get the 28 day reward and get the "Chest of Ascended Crafting Materials" which has it as a guaranteed drop. Unfortunately for me, I completed HoT the day after I got a 28 day reward. Now I'll be farming Dragonite Ore, Bloodstone Dust, and Empyreal Fragments to get this (and other Ascended gear of course). Point is, it's not always as simple as the title "Easy Ascended Weapon in 1 hour" leads you to believe. Even just gathering the motes took longer than that unless you have a flying mount and memorized all the locations in the game!
Lol i just realize that im prob play way too much... Around 20th day i had to invest time into finding blodstone and dragon ore eaters coz i had to create new charakter to hold it coz i already have my ascended gear and enought of these for next one 😅 Wish i could work that efficiently

I got about half way through this process when I realized I don't have a Vision Crystal nor do I have the means to craft one as I'm a brand new player from the Steam launch so I have zero crafting skills and absolutely NO IDEA how to get this damn thing. Guess this is a bust for me and I'll need to wait nearly another month to get the crystal through the monthly reward.
I didn't realize you can change its form. Never completed this because I don't really have a use for GS on my mains, but I'll probably get this one done soonish. Thanks for tur guide, muk!

Thanks for all your videos. My wife and I completed this one yesterday. It took longer than an hour but we were in the low 100's for crafting, had to craft the Vision crystal, had to spend and 1 or 2 hours farming Dragonite to make it. And we had a slight mix up when selecting the weapon so we were very happy with the end of the video to learn how to trade out the weapon. We had to buy some Black Lion Chest keys to get the Untamed Magic for the trade-in as well. The video was excellent. Thanks!
I found those NPC fights exceptionally hard as a glass cannon weaver. Thankfully you can respawn close enough to them, they haven't had much of a chance to heal yet and you can keep chipping away at them before all your armor breaks.
i do love the scepter form of Caladbolg. this reminds me that i need unlock the other forms; if only for some pretty neat skins (my Scourge is currently wielding the scepter form)
I got my ascended longbow in most unexpected way. Got a chest and I was not sure what it gives me. After opening it got a list of ascended weapons! I wasn't even trying to get ascended at that time!
Absolutely Excellent guide. Nowdays you can get the vision crystal from the wizards vault, removing any difficulty/cost from this method. Relatively new Lv.80 here, and I got the ascended in under two hours, thank you!

got this a while ago, a certain sense of completion comes with it. it's one of the few things in the entire game -barring leggies - where you can rather cheaply transmute and stat swap to another attribute set. sure it 1K worth of unbound magic per swap. but you can get that casually pretty easily, doing the "fire and forget" method: go to a HoT / LWS3 map, and do stuff there.
took me way longer than 1 hour, i didnt have vision stone, and I dont have a flying mount...no waypoint in some areas. But I got it and its absolutely worth it!
For anyone who may be newer to the game, and hasn't gotten their crafting up high enough to make the needed Vision Crystal. Another source is from the Chest of Ascended Crafting Materials which is one of the options from the Chest of Loyalty from the daily log in rewards. You just gotta plan ahead if you're gonna use that option though. Since the Chest of Loyalty is the last daily log in reward, before the cycle resets.
@@ferloulefou5061 if i recall correctly, when you get the quest after completing HOT for the FIRST time in your account, you get every material you need from the guy that will reforge the sword BUT just the first time, i'm almost sure of this because i have got Caladbog more than once and the second time i felt like it was faster and just slightly more expensive to just craft any ascended greatsword than farm the ascended materials for a vision crystal (i only have 250 mats slots) You still need to do the quest. Remember that you will need to do another achivement line before you can change the weapon and it will cost 1000 unbound magic, so choose wisely
@@Methillo I looked it more and it would seem like no. The vision crystal is the only barrier for first timer and after that you gotta craft the other pieces giving by Achievement.

I just started the game a few weeks ago (wow refugge here, lol :d ) so finishing the main story, killing Zaitan ect is a fresh memory, just finished HoT story yesterday and did this quest chain today... ngl getting the sword came with a few tears due to the connection my characted and Trahearne had in the story :')
at 4:00 i got both items from both achievements, i go to ridhais, there is quest mark above the head, but i am not shown any map where to go to start first vision, there is no such dialogue
I remember doing this collection a while back. A fun thing as a lore buff I’ve been doing is justifying how a non Sylvari player is able to wield this weapon. I don’t think the game cares to reveal such details. I’m still kinda working on it though. Wintersday has been taking up a lot of time.
a human wielded it for years, no reason to think a non sylvari with the pale mother's blessing couldn't get full access to its powers. i'm just sad it's a regular gs for players
@@this.is.a.username Yeah ever since I made that post I read more into it. I never found the human wielder in lore, but its never stated it was exclusive to the Sylvari. Not sure where I got that idea. I must have read certain dialogue wrong. So yeah…. My bad lol
@@LFdonohue94 it was stolen from its first wielder by a human and used for years after in gladiator fights, he wasn't attuned but still used powerful abilities with it. not a stretch to think that the pale tree and caladbolg could accept a non sylvari and bond with them.
kind of feels like this should be a larger quest line to give you a legendary as this is the only weapon in-game that has a really big legend behind it.
Ya but Caladborg has its own in-game personal story missions, a lot more than the others and it could have had a really cool long unlock quest. (with a lot of HOT achievements in it)
Great vid, only complaint is that the Blossoming Mote path wasnt shown (and not very clear ingame). Spend a few mins looking around until I decided to find it from another youtube video.
You can make this weapon for each character who finished HoT. Instead of doing the AP hunt, you craft the two parts to do the lore things. Fighting yourself I think is the most exciting spoiler, spoiled by ours truly. Also without mounts, it takes A LOT longer than an hour to do. =b
I only wish You said at the beginning that you need to be max crafting to get this vision crystal. I did all the mots and shards just to learn I will not get the sword until I power level my crafting
The only thing that I think you should have mentioned in addition is that you can get more than 1. It takes a lot of crafting, but you can craft the components and go through the fights again to get more.
i'm close to getting my crafting to 500, so I did the other steps first and the last thing I need is the craft the vision crystal. Won't take me much longer. Good to know about the changing form to unlock another glam.
Super helpful, as always. My first and only Ascended weapon is the sword from the Tequatl fight, that sits on my now barely-played guardian, so this will definitely help. Also, who are the two people that down voted this? Did you come here for non-Caladbolg related stuff and became incensed? 😂
Thank you sooooooo much, took me a little over 5 hours cause I hadn't discovered much of the waypoints and had to fly there but I've finally got it(unfortunately for me I hit the interact button by mistake and I'm now stuck with an ascended weapon I can't use with my Mesmer)....
The time to complete is very misleading, you have to wait 2 daily resets and have HoT story done and have a Vision Crystal.. That is a big time investment, not that hard, but waaaaay over an hour. But thank you for the guide.
a recommendation.. it takes only 1 sec to zoom out a bit more for plebs like me who do not have map completion, it took me 5 minutes just to search for each waypoint location :(
Yeah, because he probably flies there. This is a nice guide, but by no means newb friendly. I had this video and 20 more browser tabs to figure all this stuff out. Been playing for 2 months maybe… had all waypoints open. But the crafting mechanics takes some knowledge of the game.

this is the best guide i have ever seen on youtube for a somewhat complex quest. no bullshit talking just precisely the info that is needed 10/10

@@Elazul2k Focus on full exotic from Verdant Brink, don't worry about ascended gear if you're new.
Side note: "finishing hot" sounds a bit wrong to me...

@@masterwalpha I crafted that, it takes a bit of time if you don't have the ingredients, but I had most stuff just by passively playing the game

After the collections, you can still get the other forms as ascended weapons but requires crafting the spiritwood scion and orb of natural essence.

One hour is pretty sporty. I took me about 3 hours. But I did it with a fresh 80 without any waypoints unlocked.

There are definately some others: khan-ur, flameseeker prophecies, etc

It took me 28 hours!!! If you can take it for 1 hour or less than you probably already have full legendary set and 95% of all achivements.
I don't have anything like legendary but the most important things for speed I think are unlocked waypoints and mount, preferably skyscale.

yeah you also need to have the profession level, recipe for vision crystal and the mats for it too to make it in around 1hr
