    I am so happy that you took the time to try this product out! I'm glad you were willing to take my comment and run with it. I new you would give this product an honest review. I haven't purchased this product yet, but I will in the future. As you noted, not all of us have the funds or even the space for a good laser machine and the extra do-dads that one would like to go with it. I can see a lot of uses for Scorch Markers. I think they will become popular. it will still takes some art talent as with my wood burning set. Practice makes perfect! I am thinking of signing my work with it. The finer tip should work. Take care my Friend!

      I'm glad that you enquired about them Michael and I'm glad that I followed up with Scorch Marker. I have had several conversation with Niki from the company and have recently spoken to the owner and they are just very nice people and they are very enthusiastic about crafting and making it accessible to all. I hope that you do get yourself some of these markers and test them out for yourself. Just remember to go light on the liquid to avoid bleeding through the grain. Thanks for tuning in Michael and for asking about them in the first place. If it wasn't for you, I would have never contacted the good folks at Scorch Marker.

    Pretty cool pen and probably Will get some for myself. I can actually sign my name on a piece or customize it for others. I believe the problem with the bleed is that you smeared rather than dab the stencil. It’s similar to staining with tape. If you smear it’ll bleed. Dabs with Frog Tape are much better at preventing bleeding. Then again, pine loves to soak in and notorious for bleeding. Keep up the great work.

    • @acutabove_woodworkings
      @acutabove_woodworkings  Год назад

      The bleeding was also present when it was just a freehand drawing Peter. Using less liquid corrected the problem. I do agree with the dabbing technique on a stencil but that is normally used with a practically dry brush. Thanks for tuning in and for chiming in with your thoughts.

      This can open the door to so many different ideas on projects Brian. It's a very cost effective way to add accents to any woodworking or crafting piece. It doesn't even have to be on wood. It can be paper, card stock, leather etc. Experiment and see what it can do. I hope you're doing well. Thanks for tuning in.

    Thanks for taking the time to review and show me how to really use these markers. I purchases a few of them last year but just wasn't satisfied with my results. After watching your video I am certainly going to give them a try again. Plus I didn't know about the stencils. This opens up a whole new avenue to my finished projects. Thanks Again!!!

    I have had a scorch marker for a couple of months and just opened it a few weeks ago. I create a lot of paper crafts and had a paper crafting heat gun. I burned the surrounding wood at the exact time it burned the scorch marker. Then I saw a post from scorch that said you needed a 1500 watt heat gun. I reluctantly bought one from Amazon. It made a huge difference!!!Now that I have seen you use it with extra tips you gave, I am going to have to give it another try!! Thank you so much for sharing!!!

    Very interesting first time I've heard of it. I'd like to see you try the brush end of the marker on a stencil. The "Big Green Shed" in Australia has a "Wood scorching pen marker" in the "Crafted" brand. I'm going to have give it a try.

    • @acutabove_woodworkings
      @acutabove_woodworkings  Год назад

      I kind of feel that the brush end would apply too much material for a stencil Barry as it is a foam brush. I feel that the brush would be better suited for covering larger areas more quickly and efficiently than the marker end could. I hope this helps. Good luck with your "Crafted" markers. I hope they work well for you. Thanks for tuning in

    Interesting product. I might get one to try for intarsia work where you need to burn the eye or nose etc. It would be too difficult I think to line up the laser to do the right spot. As you said I wont be able to get them here, but I did find an alternative maker that is available here. I will have to try them out, although it may be easier for me to buy a cheap wood burner kit as I wouldn't need to use it often

    Thinking out loud here but I wonder if a sanding sealer, like shellac would prevent the bleed through before applying the Scorch Marker? I realize 350 degrees would probably not do the sealer any good but perhaps for the short time it needs to be heated it would survive.

    • @acutabove_woodworkings
      @acutabove_woodworkings  Год назад

      I too have been thinking about something to seal the wood first Dwight but much like you, I don't know how it would stand up to the heat of the heat gun. There's only one way to find out. Looks like I have more testing to do. Thanks for tuning in to the show and for chiming in with your ideas.

    Hi Kenny, what was the other end of the marker and also the smaller pen, I was curious about the different sizes of pen.

    • @acutabove_woodworkings
      @acutabove_woodworkings  Год назад

      The other end of the marker John, is a small, foam brush for applying the liquid on a larger scale. As for the smaller markers, it is essentially identical to the scorch marker that I demonstrated on the show, but a much smaller diameter. The process is identical. I hope this helps. Thanks for tuning in this week.

    Interesting concept and seemingly a good alternative to a laser (for certain tasks) ... thanks for sharing👍........ What's the difference between the Scorch Marker and a normal marker, does the normal marker bleed more?
    FYI #1 ... do a search along the lines of 'Chemical Wood Burning Pen' or 'Pyrography Marker Pen' ... looks like there a quite few manufacturers out there (I found 3 or 4 easily in the UK).
    FYI #2 ... looks like it uses ammonium chloride ... so you could make your own solution and get a set of water pens/brushes for applying it (another thing I didn't know existed until now) 😁

    • @acutabove_woodworkings
      @acutabove_woodworkings  Год назад

      My experience with a "normal" marker is that after a while, they fade out whereas to the best of my understanding, Scorch Markers will not do that. I have also found a few different branded "burning pens" and having no experience with them, I can't say how well they work or don't work. I can say though, that if it isn't broke, don't fix it and Scorch Markers did everything they said it would do. Thanks for tuning in Barry.

    Very impressive results! I was really impressed with the results you obtained with your homemade template ……. Great review of a product many of us were not even aware of. Thanks for sharing this with us and have a great day 🤠. One question: You mentioned a brush in one end of the pen ….. what is that used for?

    • @acutabove_woodworkings
      @acutabove_woodworkings  Год назад +1

      The brush in the opposite end of the pen Randy is for applying the Scorch Marker liquid on a larger scale. If you had a larger area to cover, instead of using the thinner marker head at the one end, you can unscrew the opposite end and have yourself a soft, foam brush that would apply the liquid over a larger area much more quickly. I hope this helps. Thanks for tuning in .

  • @garyfairbrother5532
    @garyfairbrother5532 Год назад

    Is it possible that the other end of the scorch marker (the brush) should be used with stencils??? A normal stencil brush is short haired and dense to be dappled (after blotting) over the stencil. This might eliminate the edge build-up (capillary attraction) that results from the pen tip. Good video, I’m going to order a pen for signing my wooden boxes.

    • @acutabove_woodworkings
      @acutabove_woodworkings  Год назад

      The brush at the opposite end is a foam brush Gary which I personally believe to be used for applying the liquid to a larger area, more quickly and more efficiently than the "marker" end. While you are right about stencil brushes having short bristles, they are mainly meant to be used (practically) dry to avoid bleeding under the stencil. With the scorch marker brush, it is a foam brush which is meant to hold more material so I honestly can't see it being used successfully with a stencil. I hope this helps. Thanks for tuning in and good luck with your scorch markers.

    Hi Kenny.
    I know that you have only just received these scorch markers and I was wondering if you had any idea how long each pen was likely to last. I have a project coming up where I will be making some dog lead hooks (about 12) on wood with a small silhouette of a dog with the dog's name. The silhouette will be about 1 & 1/2 inches by 1 & 1/2 inches. The lettering will be smaller at only 1/4 inch. Never seen these markers before either and I am looking forward to trying them.
    Thanks Cliff

      I have ordered a few things through amazon.com and in almost every instance, I ended up getting charged extra for brokerage fees. Then, on top of that, there are customs fees (which is basically a 13% tax that the Canadian government applies) and then of course, there is the exchange from CAD to USD. Financially Randy, it wouldn't be worth it. That being said, one of the other viewers pointed out that they are available on amazon.ca and I have forwarded the link to Scorch Marker to verify if it is their product or not. If it is, it will be a perfect way for Canadians to have access to this product without all the added fees. Thanks for tuning in and for chiming in to the conversation.
