    Are we finally seeing the end of the Ambassador bridge's monopoly?

    Thank you Canada for footing the bill when Matty used his billions to block funding from the state government. It’s been 23 years since travel was easy between the US and Canadian sides of the region, this will be an important step towards bringing us closer. We have a great partnership I’m excited to see high speed rail connecting Detroit, Windsor & Toronto. The bridge will be good for the economy and getting trucks off Windsors streets. But I’m really excited to see Michigan Central Station renovation by Ford includes bringing back passenger service on the new HS rail line. Michigan Central Station will be a proper welcome to America for travelers from Canada & and welcome to Detroit to US travelers. I’m so happy to see the border travel finally getting the upgrades it needs. It’s been a long time since daily commuting between Detroit & Windsor was practical for more than the 10,000 who live in one country and work in the other. That’s a tiny out of 6+ million in our shared region. With the border free of congestion it will open up opportunities for the region, despite what a map of the US or Canada says Detroit & Windsor aren’t at the end of the line. We’re one of the 3 big Great Lakes Metros and directly between the other two, Chicago & Toronto. With ease of access by road and the new high speed rail lines connecting with Toronto & Ohio along with the east coast via Toledo we have a golden opportunity to grow.

    I'm just glad this is getting built since the owner of the Ambassador Bridge has long fought against it so he could maintain his monopoly... It looks great and it's long overdue...

    You mentioned the age of the crumbling Ambassador bridge. A fact to point out how bad it is falling apart is that Windsor streets are often closed due to crumbling bridge material falling onto them. When the new bridge is complete the Ambassador needs to be torn down or replaced.

    • @augustopinochet42069
      @augustopinochet42069 9 месяцев назад +1

      No. It needs to be repaired that way trade can flow through both bridges.

    • @MrPAULONEAL

      @@augustopinochet42069 That probably won't be cost effective. It would be cheaper to replace it.

    Now the US needs to build another similar bridge to the northeast of downtown Detroit to further reduce the bottleneck and secure this vital corridor for many years to come!

    I hope they added the feature in the cables that melts ice. The glass city skyway bridge in toledo is also a cable stayed bridge without this feature so when ice forms on the cables they have to shut one lane down.

    How will the cable strands be protected from corrosion over the life of the bridge?

    • @MrPAULONEAL
      @MrPAULONEAL 3 месяца назад

      Probably the same as the ones on the Golden Gate Bridge.

    • @paulavery366
      @paulavery366 3 месяца назад

      @@MrPAULONEAL I don’t think so. Those have many more strands with lower tension that are much thicker and get painted every 2 or 3 years. The new bridge has fewer strands with much higher loads, covered with a loose fitting plastic tubes for protection. Other cable stayed bridges have had corrosion and breakage issues. The literature describes testing with various coatings but no firm recommendation yet.

      @KickinItWithJW 10 месяцев назад +2

      Well the Detroit-Windsor tunnel is actually pretty sound....I use that every weekend instead of the bridge (quicker vs bridge). One thing I hate about the bridge is that its only connected to one freeway vs how the Gordie Howe will be (freeway to freeway) so that'll cut down on the headache in downtown Windsor

    The flow of commerce would be a lot more efficient if the USA and Canada entered into an agreement to do away with border crossing bureaucracy. Each truck and car still needs to stop at the inspection point on either side. Gridlock will be worse with more traffic. It used to be like that on the Golden Gate Bridge until they got rid of tollbooths and charged each driver electronically.

  • @arionodhanis

  • @heyinway
    @heyinway 10 месяцев назад +2

    Canada wants the Ambassador bridge torn down when the new bridge opens. Hopefully they get their way, even if it's just to "disconnect" their end of of it. It's nearly a hundred years old and was never properly maintained.

It is paid for by Canada and we have had no end of opposition from Michigan etc. This bridge is to the benefit of both nations for important trade. Yes it was desperately needed NO thanks to Americans. Thank you Canada for looking after trade between our nations.

    20 years ago you could look out your vehicle and see the river below through the chunks of missing roadbed on the ambassador bridge ... as soon as this is open they need to tear that pos down ... side note the ambassador is private there has not been one government inspection since it was sold Manual the moron took the money and ran !
