Judging by our understanding, i eould say that this was before Ico found the beach, likely that watermelon was the parent fruit for other melons that grew there before Ico arrived.
@@reddrahvett623obviously the lead guy behind the games has already confirmed Shadow of the Colossus is a prequel to ICO and that Wander is indeed the first horned child
No problem! It's always my pleasure to credit the (objectively) greatest SOTC fan of all time. I'll also be doing that again in a video coming out tomorrow. ;)
Could you take a look at the "Ico Castle" that is supposedly visible in the distance from the area around the beach? I'd love to know if the better graphics make it more clear as to whether it's for real, or just a random texture.
I know for a fact that it's not the castle, that it IS just a random texture, and that a RUclipsr named Nomad Colossus proved it. At the moment I can't find the video he made where he disproved that. If I find it, I'll let you know. Until then, feel free to search his videos. Just type "Nomad Colossus" into the RUclips search engine.
I'm hoping and praying with all my heart and soul! Ico is my favorite game and if it gets the same treatment as SOTC, I would be immensely happy. For now, I'll just have to enjoy it on PS3
Actually, it COULD be the same beach. If we can assume that 100s of years separate the games, erosion could cause the beach (as well as the cliffside) to change dramatically.
Come to think of it, shore lines can change over time, and considering that iCO is set up first, this could very well be the same Beach just that the Shore line changed a bit.
i got that cool painting the creator did , of ico and sotc being in the same universe and in the middle of the painting i think is where the last guardian takes place, i think im about to play the last guardian for the first time
That beach could very well be the same beach, but farther into the future from Ico. Look at the comparison at 0:56, they look almost too similar. it seems very plausible that enough time would've passed for the cliff to erode and the tides to become lower. I guess the only problem with this theory is that it implies SotC is in the future compared to Ico, when it is actually a prequel... But at the same time the beaches look so similar, that the developers could have created Ico Beach with the intention of it being the original beach.
I recently played the remake and I wondered whether the developers left a watermelon on that beach to reference Ico. Unfortunately I didn't find the watermelon when I visited the beach but it's good to know that they actually added one.
Don't think we can assume they are not the same beach based on their shape. We don't know the length of the time-gap between Shadow of the Colossus and Ico. It is quite possible the beach changed shape over time. The hypothetical scenario in which the beaches are one and the same also sheds light on where Ico came from. It seems to me the forbidden land from Shadow of the Colossus is Ico's homeland, and the land ruled by the Queen would have to be Wander's homeland in the future (this has to do with the horned baby seen at the end of SotC). Yorda and Ico both leave the castle and wash ashore on a beach, and it seems reasonable to me to think they ended up back in the forbidden land where Ico came from, since they left from the same port as those who brought Ico to the Queen's land came in at. This also explains why the Queen's castle is far more architecturally stunning than anything we saw in the forbidden land, because back in the time of SotC, it was inhabited by humans, and I'm guessing that in the time of Ico, the forbidden land is inhabited by humans instead. I also notice the shape of the beach in SotC has less gradual curvature, while the beach in Ico has more gradual curvature. This actually reflects the way beaches change over time. the sand past the shore gradually gets pushed up and extends the length of the beach, thus smoothing out its curvature. Why throw a bone to theorists on a subject if they are not correct?
Actually, it could be the same beach, if ICO happens in a distant future it Is posible that the shoreline in SOTC erodes and get the same appearance from the previous game.
I think that easter egg was also in the original PS2 version of Shadow of the Colossus too if I remember right... but I THINK it was only on the Japanese version (Wanda and the Colossus)
"I've never seen any definitive proof regarding how "Ico" is pronounced" you say? Well, the katakana is "イコ". "Eye-co" would be "アイコ". Or just watch any interview with Fumito Ueda. Job done :)
I just knew there had to be a watermelon somewhere, I didn't know admit that stretch of beach though. I guess i need to sirens another 50+ hours searching the map.
ICO is pronounced EECO. The watermelon is not the only ICO Easter egg. In the basement of the main temple, you will find one of ICO's horns lying at the base of the last column on the right, just before reaching the Sword Of Dormin. Even though the game has been out for almost a year now, it seems that not many people know about that horn. If SOTC is your 2nd favorite all-time game, what is your first?
Do ICO and Shadow of the Colossus take place in the same country? I always interpreted that Shadow of the Colossus was like the origin of the country where ICO takes place.
It can be possible, that the "tribes" living there might not follow the concept of countries or foreign boundaries. Maybe they we're just one huge community of people bonded together by the same exact thing. Or, a popular vote is that, these tribes practice different forms of religion, that is why they are able to use different kind of magic unique to each game. However, the symbols remain eerily same. Maybe their language is a mix of Heiroglyphs and random voice inputs. Look at the Sigil designs of some Symbols, they look way too similar. The Sigil on the cape of Ico, Wander, and the tribesmen in The Last Guardian. Maybe it all takes place in the same planet, just through different timelines. Or, they could be in the same universe, but just on different planet/Solar system/Galaxy. Also, maybe the kid in TLG actually grows up to be Lord Emon. I mean, we all know that Lord Emon has got to be about 70 years old. He looks like it in the PS4

Beaches and cliffs and all coasts change drastically over time with erosion and drift so i wouldn't rule it out entirely.
The wanderer having Ico’s face.
I wish they would make a proper sequel to ICO, have him grab her hand again and drag her around the beach.
it could be the same beach, beaches erode and the shore line can look different at different times...

Don't think we can assume they are not the same beach based on their shape. We don't know the length of the time-gap between Shadow of the Colossus and Ico.
