    • @neocomp92
      @neocomp92 3 года назад +36

      Aside from the quick fix of removing the chips to stop the brainwashing, and the diversion of responsibility of Order 66 from the clones to Palpatine? If the clones were all taught to be sleepers whose loyalty was ultimately to their orders from the Chancellor whilst keeping it hidden from the Jedi, it would have made them duplicitous and complicated to stand behind even if some of them decided to go against Order 66.
      Yes, the chips will sidestep the issue of the orders getting detected by the mind-reading Jedi, or some weak-willed clone who decided to blurt out the secret prematurely. But there is some potential in exploring real-life brainwashing and how different characters under different circumstances would react to it. Real-life brainwashing is simply debating, talking, and educating someone to undermine their core values and replace them with your own. Think of Halo's logic plague, or Mass Effect Reaper indoctrination. Or the most entrenched, fanatical person you could think of when debating about politics or religion.
      Not only is this element resistant to quick, surgical fixes, but importantly it introduces the element of free will. The clones *willingly* executed Order 66 instead of being controlled by some chip. They will remember and perhaps regret carrying out those orders, and they have no one to blame but themselves. You can still blame it all on Palpatine, but just like real life, it isn't the political or military masters of the soldier that pulled the trigger. It is the soldier himself. He decided to follow orders, and he has to live with that.
      This element of living with the repercussions of following Order 66 is what I hope the Bad Batch could explore, assuming they manage to retrieve Crosshair and dechip him. And assuming he doesn't suffer the typical Star Wars trope of redemption equals death.

    • @theyigo9362

    • @thegreatjedi309
      @thegreatjedi309 2 года назад +42

      @@neocomp92 That's exactly why I believe the inhibitor chips are better than the old brainwashing approach from Legends. In terms of storytelling, of the topics that can be brought into the narrative, you raise good points. However, you need to consider this: What would Palpatine do? What's the best way to ensure the clones will execute Order 66? To you, the clones are living individuals and the concept that they collectively participated in Order 66 willingly is very attractive, but to Palpatine the clones are just weapons and "assets", to quote his exact words from the series. He's one of the greatest masterminds we've ever known in pop culture; he's not someone who would leave things to chance, to risk even a single Jedi surviving if possible, least of all giving his weapons "free will". Relying on free will to choose the ten years of brainwashing over 3 years of personal interaction is so not Sith-like. Look how many Jedi survived into the Empire in Legends.
      Inhibitor chips as a solution is so much cleaner, more complete, and arguably so much more of a tragedy. The Jedi fell indirectly because of their own hubris, arrogance and dogma, so there's a bit of a "Palpatine was right" moment there. But the clones? Prisoners in their own bodies as they watched the very thing they fought and sacrificed to stop being brought about by their very own hand, finally realising the truth about their existence and purpose. Like Rex said, it made him wonder at the end, "what was the point of all of this?"

    • @haroldcruz8550
      @haroldcruz8550 Год назад

      @North Bridge Ironically it's more unrealistic for the clones to blindly follow a politician like Palpatine and kill the generals that they fought and bled with for several years. It's one thing to order the killing of one general but to order the killing of all the generals? Heck even Hitler had to bribe the German army and sacrifice his own paramilitary in the beginning just to get the army's loyalty. Why do you think Julius Caesar was successful in his coup? that's because he had the loyalty of the soldiers behind him and even he did not have the loyalty of the entire Roman army cause Pompei had his own loyal soldiers.The chip is a necessary plot device.

    Rex reaction to inhibitor chips makes sense especially after the last line “I don’t want to bury anymore of our brothers”
    This line hits hard because Rex fears the inhibitor chips of what it did to him and his brothers. Thus traumatizing him of losing his brothers like Fives and needing to bury Jesse and the rest of the 501st because of those chips.

    It's times like this when you realise the Bad Batch's experience of Order 66 was relatively tame in comparison to others. They were isolated on the battlefield, so the only clone who knew they violated the order was Crosshair, who wasn't affected as much at the time. All he did was log a report that the padawan escaped, rather than bring every clone in the area down on his squad. They went back to a non hostile environment then slipped away when they got the chance. Yes they lost Crosshair, but luckily they didn't have to kill him.
    Rex on the other hand had to fight his way through brothers he served alongside for years after being forced to try and kill Ahsoka. All the while Maul was literally tearing the ship apart and slaughtering everything in his path. Not a single one of the men he commanded survived that day.

    Anybody else ever sit back and really appreciate the character of Captain Rex. Clone Wars has always been my favorite show. For me and I can imagine many other Star Wars fans, we grew up with this guy. I was starting first grade when the Clone Wars movie came out and I was finishing my first year of college when the final season came out. This man has been with me through family issues, shitty grades, heart breaks, all of it; the most important sections of my life and he has evolved with all of us. He's one of the few Star Wars characters where whenever he shows up on screen, no matter what the situation is, you feel happy to see an old friend and no matter what he does you love him.

With Order 66 being active long after it was first commanded, it would make sense any clone still with the chip inside could(and did) snap at any moment.

    rex has had what I would argue are his two of his best friends lost to the chips, almost lost himself, and had to bury all of those people with Ashoka. he lost fives permanently. and rex never heard from cody again after order 66 as far as we know. when the final season of the clone wars came he was able to hold off long enough to basically warn Ashoka that what fives were saying was true only to then basically be forced into submission by the damn chip. and then he buried every single one of them in that crash.
    and yes I argue fives was one of his best friends because of the fact in season 6 after Ashoka was forced out of the order, fives and rex were worked a lot together and alongside Anakin. Fives states that he didn't wanna leave tup alone because he was his best friend, but he was really really close to rex too as we saw in umbara and when they had to rescue tup it was just rex, fives, and Anakin.
    So yeah we have some of the most absurdly effective clones ever produced with the chips in their heads, one of them already fell to its influence, and one is complaining of headaches. His being afraid makes perfect sense.

    Much like how the Jedi Order was killed, but few of it’s members survived Order 66. The Grand Army of the Republic died when it’s soldiers turned against the Jedi, save for a hand full of clones who managed to refuse to follow the Empire. The parallels are so unique, yet very similar.

    You can tell deep inside, Rex kind of blames himself for not being able to fully understand what Fives was trying to warn him. While he was able to use the information to save Ahsoka and himself, he wasn't able to free his brothers from the chip's control in the Venator starship or warn the Jedi about the devastating plot against them. Burying his brothers and deserting the army to find a new meaning in life was incredibly tough for him.
    Nevertheless, even with all that PTSD (and the major plot armor), it's amazing how this clone fought from the First Battle of Geonosis all the way to the Battle of Endor. He'll always be our favorite clone trooper.
