Making this year's CUTS to the GOAT HERD

  • Today we make our first decision on who is going to go to new homes!
Hi there! 👋🏻 We live on a 1-acre farm right in the middle of the busy city of Phoenix, Arizona! Our names are Kevin & DaNelle, and we moved here in 2009, when our kids Ethan & Lydia were just 6 & 4 years old 🥰 Over the years we've raised goats for milk, chickens for eggs, built a fish/swim pond, planted fruit & nut trees, and grew a large garden full of veggies. We've also raised a bunch of other animals like pigs, sheep, turkeys, geese, peacocks, and more!
Now that our kids are away at college, we have settled into doing what we love most -- which is raising & breeding goats ethically to improve genetics. But don't worry, we'll forever love our goofy pet goats like Luna the herd queen & Willow the stump lover. We also still love raising chickens for eggs, gardening, tending to the fruit & nut trees, and growing fish in the pond. We use the fresh goat's milk to make cheese, butter, yogurt -- and we use that + everything else we harvest on our little farm to make delicious meals. Having a getaway from the busy world right in our backyard brings so much joy to us each day, and we hope it brings some to you, too. 🥰

Being a good Breeder makes for better breeding results which makes it good all around for everyone n every goat... But that is what is always needed when breeding anything for perfection of the breed n their history being kept in tact so history can be repeated, sorta speaking !!! Strong breed lines need hard choices, good job !!!

Aww, the sting of sweet Fern and Rose leaving has been made easier by seeing Queen Luna and Ms Willow. Of course, I look out for Luna in the videos and you can always find her at the hay trough lol. I understand why you make the decisions you are, not everything can stay the same. I love watching your channel and if I don't particularly care to watch a segment, I avert my eyes, no drama, no judgement. Thank you for letting us share a portion of your lives.❤️🐐🐐🐈🐈👨‍👩‍👧‍👧🐕🔨🍕

While it is sad to see Fern go, what you're doing to help improve the Nigerian Dwarf breed is awesome. I have friends in the dag show and breeding world, and while there's a lot to be said for 'don't shop, adopt,' reputable dog breeders are working to breed out health problems and develop stronger animals. It's an admirable thing to do because it's not just about cute babies and making money. It's about healthier animals in the long run.

It is not mean, it is ultimately for the benefit of the goats. If you breed for healthy characteristics, you avoid a situation where you have an animal that suffers unnecessarily - that is a kindness.

I respect and appreciate your reasoning behind which goats to keep and which to re-home. I confess you almost lost me over a year ago. I was very disappointed when you neutered Willow some months back, I love her colors, but seeing the genetic leg issues, I concede your wisdom. Teat placement, utter attachment, a sturdy wide body, are likewise important. Its unkind to demand numerous kids from a doe whose body cannot tolerate it well. Thanks for educating us, we're learning that beauty is deeper than mere coat color, it's the entire package!🐐😍 It's been an interesting journey we've followed you on. ☺

It's funny that she mentions people leaving the channel because they are upset about the goats leaving. I'd NEVER LEAVE 😂. I've never missed a video for almost 5 years. I'm exited about what the future brings and sometimes you need to make sacrifices for the greater good. I have an emotional bond with this channel. Im way too dedicated and there for you guys and this channel lol. I saw the gradual change of favoring goat genetics over personality and i knew it was coming.
