Last night the temps dropped below freezing! Luckily, I moved my plants in time! I will still be doing an overwintering video for my canivorous plants so stay tuned! Hey +Rachel O'Leary! You inspired me to put out ponds this year and closed them down this week. What a blast! Lots of plant propagation/growth and some fry too -thanks for all you do.
Wow I'm learning a bunch :) and it makes sense that the plants will come back after being cut. I remember from bio class that plants have good nutrient reserves in their roots to be able to grow back fully. You put my classroom knowledge and practical knowledge together :) very cool!
Rachel, besides being a queen of fish, you definitely have green fingers as well! lol! They look amazing and so many, its great to see, you do have the best fish tubs on here for sure. Keep it up and look after those hands from the cold. :)
I ha e always left my Lillys in the pond during the winter and they ha e always came back. Wondering if the other plants will do the same as they are all perennial
I figured it was. I heard the crunching of him walking on the pebbles first. I just wanted to see how observant people were being. Just want to say thanks for all informative vids. You, king of DIY, solid gold aquatics and aquarium co-op make me want to get back into keeping fish. I now now why all my fish died when I was a kid.
I wonder if the green house would keep a stable enough temperature in the winter to keep some of your summer tubbing fish out there? Or any fish at all for that matter.
Will the green house stay warm in the winter if you put a small heater in it? Enough that you could keep tubs going for tropical fish to breed year round?
I love this video! I don’t know what kind of plants you were cutting except for the society garlic and Lilys. I bought my very first water Lily from a seller in Hawaii that I bought some pink guppys from. Since I live in Southern California I think I should be able to grow year-round? Will see my first time growing a waterlily. I wanted to get a Headstart on water plants for my first attempt at mini outdoor guppy tub I’m gonna do in the spring ❤️🐟💦
I don't have a greenhouse so when you flip the bins what do you do I mean cover with mulch or?? Also I moved my papyrus and corkscrew to the basement. Stays around 60 down there I have them in a bin and was planning on feeding with aquarium water. What is your opinion?
Hi Rachel, Will you be attending The Aquatic Experience in Chicago? I absolutely adore your channel and appericate your knowledge and information that you share.
awesome video. Where did you get your greenhouse from and about how much was it. we have been thinking about getting one for a long time and yours looks really nice. Thanks
Rachael, I cut back my pockets rush and submerged it to the bottom. I was told you could over winter them this way. Thinking of getting some taro next season, can they be over wintered or just an annual?
You don't anticipate that the greenhouse will stay warm enough over the winter to just move the plants in and let them keep growing? I suppose it makes sense to observe things over the first winter and not make any big routine changes right away, but I just sort of assumed that was part of the purpose of the greenhouse.
the greenhouse is more to extend my season- start earlier and last longer for the future. It gets way too cold here to grow all seasons without spending a lot each month to heat it
Gotcha. I'm in a part of the country where we worry more about the summers being too hot (and too long) than winters being too cold so I don't have a great frame of reference there. =]
A lot of those plants she has (especially the carnivorous ones) really benefit from winter dormancy. The plants need rest. Those pitcher plants would eventually run out of steam and die if forced to skip dormancy for more than a year or two.
Lots of cool videos you're making... But in this one, you're scaring me with those scissors! Please be careful!❣ Do you propagating and make more!?! Is there a video of your Greenhouse.... where you are storing everything? I'll have to check.😁
Great Video Rachel! I did the same in preparations for winterizing my plants and took down my patio pond containers etc and brought most of my goldies indoors as seen in my vids. I'll show some FISHFAMLOVE and Subscribe 47,982
Thank you SO much for this! I just rewatched last year's lily video and pulled mine out of the painfully cold water and chopped them back. I have a dilemma though: Should I put them in my basement which; although a dugout, houses the furnace so doesn't get extremely cold, OR put them in my uninsulated garage which does get really really cold (Ontario sometimes -30C). What are your thoughts?
Hate to rain on your parade, but the carnivorous beetles are the larvae of some species of dragonfly or damselfly. They came from the air so repotting the plants will not help against them.

Haha so you were here
why hello there
Dang…that plant see you coming and be like “I am not here….” Hahahaha great video!

Rachel you should save and use the society garlic tops. It's great in salad and soups.
Oh man I so want a greenhouse. Really nice
Great video

Do I need to keep them in water in the garage and will I have to change the water often
Rachel, How are you and I not friends? OMG - I love that green house and all your fish and plants!!
Next week (thanks to all the donations folks have been sending), I will put in the shelving and really get the ball rolling!!
What about the floater plants, how do you winterize them
Did anyone else notice the mysterious foot at 6:47 near the tub on the left? Getting ready for Halloween with random body parts!
hahahahahahah that was my husband trying to stay out of frame!

I live in Northern Michigan. Do you think it would be OK to move my pond in the garage with heaters for my goldfish?
Looking good
What caulking are you using, I have been told you need non acetic silicone because the regular acetic silicone will break down the polycarbonate
Is your greenhouse heated?
Will the green house stay warm in the winter if you put a small heater in it? Enough that you could keep tubs going for tropical fish to breed year round?
I COULD heat it, likely enough to do so, but I don't want it to be a significant added monthly expense right now
Great video.
Can you overwinter the acuatic plants in the green house??
Hi 👋 one question 🙋♂️
Where I can buy this big pond bucket over 100 gallons ?
I love this video! I don’t know what kind of plants you were cutting except for the society garlic and Lilys. +Guppy Gal & Tanzie the Ragdoll tropical for sure, some subtrpicals need a cool down or rest period

What lily u recommend for 2 feet deep pond?
Thanks

no, not this year unfortunately

Really. Dwarf papyrus would be ok in the house? Do I need to keep it in water
You can keep it in a tray of water or just treat it like a house plant but placed in a sunny area
What do you do with your succulents (pre green house) during the winter?
cross my fingers and toss some mulch on them.
does the greenhouse stay warm all winter? if so, how?
Rachael, I cut back my pockets rush and submerged it to the bottom. I was told you could over winter them this way. Thinking of getting some taro next season, can they be over wintered or just an annual?
I overwinter my taro by cutting it back and insulating it well

Do you water them throughout the winter?
They are kept very humid, but I don't regularly water them
@@RachelOLeary thank you :)
When you cut back the leaves do you store in water or let them go dry?
i keep them dry, but covered so a humid environment
Lots of cool videos you're making...

May I ask what earth are you using for your lily pads? Great video, Thank you.

Hi i have hair algea in my pond, do i leave it till spring to clear it or now? Thanks
+Fish Tales I clear mine
Have you over wintered dwarf papyrus?
Yes. It does great as a house plant
I hope you are in Chicago nov 3 rd
sorry, not this year

I would probably choose the basement

Bye bye plants for another year
Winter? Whats winter? I live in Florida.
