Fire Patrolman Keith M. Roma was killed on 9-11, but he is not listed as one of the 343 FDNY firefighters killed because the Fire Patrol was a department in itself. It would have been nice if they added him as number 344, because he was a firefighter, his body was found in Tower 1 along with 9 civilians.

He was given a full FDNY funeral as well, should be 344 he was found with the civilians on Christmas Eve 2001, his father was a patrolman as well.

They disbanded due to costs. Simple as that. It wasn’t worth the cost of running the FP. I remember working with them in Manhattan and it was a great respectful relationship.

The Fire Patrol was not part of the FDNY is was a separate agency that had allied the FDNY since 1865 until they were disbanded in 2006. The Fire Patrol responded to ever all hands fire and major fires in the entire city for 16 decades to spread covers on the contents that needed to be salvaged but that all was lost in 2006 under the Bloomberg administration by cutting their budgets and disband the patrol forever. Mike Bloomberg was probably the worst person to have an administration to disband every singe fire company for more than 20 years this is the same with the previous administration that cut budgets on a few brooklyn and manhattan companies such as E213 E208 E215 Sq7 B36 Sq6 Sq9 Sq8 Sq5 Sq2 E2 E51 E56 E27 E29 E13 almost had E212 disbanded in ‘75 E232 E30 E31 E11 E12 E17 E19 E20 E25 E32 E49 E57 E77 E78 E98 E99 E100 E101-E110 E111-E120 E121-E130 E131-E140 E141-E150 E170-E176 E200 then in 2003 E203 E204 E36 E212 E209 and E261 in 2018 E154/F154 to reorganize Sq8 Sq10 was also disbanded every single administration that cut budgets on firehouses closed them down and disbanded them causing the firemen to lose their jobs and not work as firemen again. In 1975 the brooklyn community protested on the attempted closing of E212 and they blocked off the engine held the firemen hostage and took over the firehouse to show they will do anything to protect them from ever closing the police department shown up telling all the protesters to get out and then Joe Galvin of the 11th division shot down and asked what was happening and they said they were taking over the firehouse and the cops asked what they should do with the protesters like throw them out but Joe said no leave them here it’s the People’s Firehouse that’s where they got the name and they held weekly meetings on Tuesday nights to figure out a plan of action to save E212, so then in 1978 Utility Unit 1 was formed to temporarily replace E212 then in 1991 E212 was back again, but they only lasted about 12 years before they were totally disbanded on May 25th 2003.

Gilles Renaud disbanded in October of 2006. Insurance industry said the value of property the Fire Patrol salvaged wasn’t equal to what they were paying (or something like that).

My guess is because they probably didn't work well together with the FDNY, nor were they widespread and effective enough to be of much use. Perhaps that may be different, but that's my guess.

@@Grim-bx3ox My best friend was a member of Patrol #2 (in Manhattan) before joining FDNY. I have wonderful memories of visiting him inside the beautiful and historic old firehouse. He used to take me down to the basement and tell me about the ghost. Sadly, he was killed in 9/11, so those memories are particularly meaningful today. Interestingly, the firehouse was placed on the open market after Patrol disbanded and the property was purchased by Anderson Cooper. ny.curbed.com/2017/4/28/15478996/anderson-cooper-greenwich-village-home

The Fire Patrol should be brought back, but re-purposed as Fire Crews, to bring additional Firefighters to scenes where they are needed, but additional trucks are not.
