Re: that called shot "off the glass, into the trainer", there's some more interesting context to that one you don't hear too often. As I remember, Larry was cooking them so much, one of the guys on the other team said he had some fouls to burn, so what they could do is just try to foul him and make him miss. Larry was basically predicting that they were gonna try to foul him. When he goes to take that shot, he gets kinda shoved. Supposedly, while that ball was in the air, Larry yelled out "MONEY!" and it still went in. THAT'S why the guys on the bench start laughing and throwing up their arms. They shoved him and it still didn't throw him off.

Bird didn't say INTO the trainers lap, even though that version is more fun. What he actually said were 2 words "trainer' lap", it didn't mean he would fall into the trainers' lap, but he was going to make the shot, from where the trainer was sitting. which was a 3-pointer. once again telling the opposition what he was going to do, then do it.

I’ll tell you how much confidence Larry Bird had. I was watching an interview from the 90s and they were discussing how much Larry liked to take the last shot and Larry told the reporter “ there’s 40,000 eyes in this building and the other team and everyone knows I’m gonna take the last shot,so it’s up to them to stop me.” Notice he didn’t say “ it’s up to me to make it”. I think that says everything about his confidence. It wasn’t even a second thought in his mind that he would make a shot.

You had that backwards with Drexler, it was Drexlers rookie year in 83. Bird was telling the rookie he couldn't stop him.

Two of my favorite stories about Larry. The first is the story from training for the dream team and him telling the defender what he is going to do 8-9 times in a row then doing it. The second one is from a bulls player I don’t remember who it was but I watched a video where he said he was starting to talk trash to Larry and Jordan steps in and stops him. That’s crazy when you have the best player in the world saying don’t get that guy started!!

From the other perspective, how much pressure is Bird putting on you when he tells you what he's going to do to you? Especially on game winners. Get you all hyped up, then hit you with one of those fakes....you're going to bite, and you're screwed

There’s no other player in his league history that called shots to win games and make those shots on a consistent basis,…. Not even Lebron, Jordan, or anyone else!!!! That should tell you something bro!!!!

As far as passing goes, I see a lot of Larry Bird in Caitlin Clark's approach to the game.

Oh, here's a gem for you: John Salley on whether he'd pick prime LeBron or prime Larry. It's also funny, DO watch it to the end. ruclips.net/video/YOF3Ro7Imk0/видео.html
p.s. Salley's such a laid back guy, and funny, too

@@JameenODHipHopNewsyour excitement watching these Bird videos reminds of the excitement before each of the games. The anticipation the day before each game was crazy. It couldn't get here fast enough. Great times.

What I love about Byron’s story and similar ones is how it’s mind games as well..players will think is he actually gonna do that or is he messing with us? And if he does do it they’ve gotta wonder next time is he actually gonna do it or this time is he gonna be fooling us, if I was creating the perfect basketball player I’d take Larry’s brain and passing

I love that your emphasizing these are professionals and are the best at that period of time. When you hear a generation claim they were playing against plumbers more in lines there wasn't the same money in sports at the time.
