the first time i heard this song, my first thought was, that’s a strange voice i’m not sure i can listen to the whole song, but then i listened to it again because i liked the guitar, now here i am addicted to the band, everything is amazing and i love how odd the vocals are, i think it’s all so beautiful. strange how easily we can change our minds by just giving it another listen.
The media and critics didn't even like Brian Molko. Many actually wanted to get rid of him from being a star in the late 90's. Placebo were always invincible since day 1. The ending of this video is really good, gives the song a strong context
I'm 21 and I've been fan of Placebo since I was 17 but I had never dedicated time to watch their videos. The other day I was talking to a friend of mine about how most (not all) of the music videos nowadays lack a story or a profound meaning. I'm not saying that it's wrong that a music video doesn't have that but I think that it's always more nutritious for the audience if the artist wants to communicate something way beyond the song itself, it is an extra effort that is granted. never imagined how complex and beautiful and cinematic and full of signifiers Placebo's videos would be. I've always been in love with Placebo but now I'm completely lost hahaha they're amazing
100% That's a big reason I was drawn to his music... because he was comfortable being himself.. his voice oozes desperation, but so much emotion... one of my favourite bands... I'm heterosexual... but Brian Moloko would be my man crush ha
Placebo: *writes the saddest, most pessimistic, heart wrenching, depressing song about a relationship the world has ever heard* people in the 90s:LET'S GOOOOOOOOOO
It’s crazy that this vid only has 1,8M views… people really don’t listen to great music anymore? Placebo is and always be my fav band! For 20 years now and forever! ❤
Most of the people that listen to good music don't listen using youtube's crunched bitrate unless we're throwing it on randomly in the background. It's not that they don't listen to it, it's that you don't know *how* to listen to it, so probably don't accuse everyone of not listening to great stuff.
That song was the first time I ever saw and heard of Placebo, on MTV in 1998. I remember being both puzzled and mesmerised by Brian's voice, his appearance (he?/she?) , the video clip... many years later, it is still a favourite of mine.
My older brother introduced me to placebo in the early 90s. I'm amazed at just how much of a massive role placebos music would play into the rest of my life. I couldn't say that about any other entertainer. Their music is a placebo for my soul and mind.
Even more depressing is the knowledge that it is merely a matter of time before some TikTok child discovers the song, speeds or slows it down & uses it for another meaningless ‘viral’ video. Or, the melody is used and the lyrics re-written into something spectacularly banal.
The concept for this video is brilliant.....being "thrown to the sharks" both figuratively and literally. Their acting in this one (particularly in Brian Molko's case) wasn't bad either...and the song reminds me of something you'd hear on one of the The Cure's first few albums. Love it.
Hahaha when I first got high, this was the song playing in the background. This band is so fucking timeless. Nostalgic, euphoric, tranquil, iconic -all words to describe them. Much love, Placebo

I'm 24 rn and my teenage angst is flaring up. Gotta listen to Placebo to make me feel understood and not overreacting; even if I did punch an old woman in the face for interrogating me about my shoes, And kneecap an old man for cursing me over driving into his van. Call it Teenage Angst. My first physical purchase of music was Placebos "A Place For Us to Dream" and I listened to it four times back to back whoslt drinking vodka and screaming the lyrics on top of my coffee table. If I were to see them live I think I might actually die. That's not a joke. I might actually die if I were to see Placebo singing live.

I'm 16 now but I think this song will bring me memories.

Καρολίνα Μάντζιου 😂,,,,,, but his eyes are sooo special
I agree, they have an awesome shape and color, my comment was just irony, but tell me, is there any more beautiful color than violet?
carolyn ilves but nobody cares about u!!! 🤣
That kid's smile is one of the creepiest smiles I've seen in a long time. Very unsettling

❤ me encanta la explicación que dio acerca de esta canción.

Pienso igual que Molko. Siempre queriendo hacerte el tácito en la historia, eso me encanta

Nothing compares in depression induction. Some people have the heart of a swine, so. Heart-wrenching. Chapeau.

Great song and great band. Very underrated.
Very underated. I agree. Much better than bands who don't write their own... Placebo is god.

I'm 55 and I've loved this band for 30 years. Nancy Boy, Special Needs, Teenage Angst, Every You Every Me and this one are top top songs.
brilliant songwriter and beyond underrated guitarist. Brian and Placebo forever
That moment when you realize 2010 was a decade ago.
I feel you
Right, but this song is from 1998
And this upload is nearly as old now as the song was at time of upload
@Mark Majid1998. I bought the cd single

my wife died 5 years ago, she used to love this beautiful song god save her
Sorry 😢
22 years later and I still love this band and song. So sad that there is no place for such brilliance these days. Kids of today are really losing out.

Nice. There's kind of a The Cure vibe in this song.
Boys don't cry intro...
Well difference between Cure and placebo is that Cure made only 3 good albums....
@@AnimacionesCutres you're right
@Devil Hill - Similar instrumentation, especially the Fender Bass VI that many of The Cure's songs heavily rely on.
@@xfilesfoxisdead7979 i'm sorry, you mean 8 good albums ?

I like how they use a lot of cold colors in their visuals.

A sound of the CURE in the intro. Great. Friendly from France
Been listening to this song since maybe 2014 and never watched its music video... Thankfully I did while I was listening Without You Im Nothing album.

Wow, han pasado tantos años desde que escuché esta canción, recuerdo como si fuera ayer mi etapa puberta.
I just had to see the video after hearing this song in the original United Kingdom series Queer as Folk.! 90’s is still the best always will

For all the people wondering, I can say that Brian's wristband at 0:37 says Grade A Code... something. Looks like SRD5 to me,but that means nothing.

This song has now made me cry. See my other comment ❤️
I went to a boarding school when I was 10. It was not unusual to see people being fed to sharks in school trips back in those days.
I like the part where it says "you're on the back page" I'm sure there are many intepretations.
Youthful endeavour. But this digital generation. It's still not right, not where I am.
The part in water with sharks always reminds me of Duran Duran's Come undone :v Great song btw !
