Ive been in early labor for the last two days and i did all of these no's.😅 Right when we thought we were between 4-5 minutes apart, we headed to the hospital and waited in the waiting room for THREE HOURS and my lavor STALLED. I was exhausted while in the waiting room and beyond stressed. My contractions went from 4-5 minutes to being 20-30 minutes apart. So, we asked to go back to laboring at home because we still hadnt even been checked into triage yet.
Still at home in early labor, btw. I'm 40+3 today. Gonna focus on taking it easy and stop obsessing over my contractions/have more patience for myself and baby, so long as baby is still moving and grooving.
Haha I did the walking and obsessive timing the first time around and I had a 48 hour labor with a lot of painful stalled progress. I wish I would have layed down more at the start. I was days past due date so I guess I was super anxious for it to be ”go” time. I stood up for hours and hours that first day at home. It wore me out. She’s so right about this. I early labored laying down and in the bath with candles the second time and I progressed so quickly. And hey, even if I didn’t, ain’t nothing wrong with rest and patience in that relatively gentle early labor!!!
I wish I could have done all these things. As I was 41 weeks and 2 days pregnant, I was scheduled for a checkp up at the hospital, the baby was bouncing in my belly, the nurse was nervous, called the doctor and he decided to admit me. Next check ups, baby was so relaxed, but my body didn't want to go into labour. They induced the pregnancy with prostaglandine gel and a sort of catheter. After 5 days, my labour started. On Monday I experienced the early labour, Tuesday, active labour, but asked for epidural at 6 cm dilation and gave birth on Wednesday early morning. Baby was fine-ish, we stayed 5 more days. I could sense something was wrong, he was so sleepy. He had an infection and spent 3 days on antibiotics. My water broke very early in labour and that was probably the cause. I would like to add, I gave birth in Germany, my husband was working and benefited from state insurance. I paid nothing for the 11 days spent in hospital.
33 weeks tomorrow..looking forward to birth a 4th time. 3rd baby went so smooth thanks to finding you! Used your prenatal affirmations as well as your labor ones and labored as long as i could at home, and baby was here in less than 3 hours after checking into hospital, and pushed like 4times and baby was out🥰 I'm hoping for another amazing experience 😉
Hahaha I had contractions all last Thursday afternoon/evening and I did mistakes #1-4 😂😂 I just really wanted to get things going. I’m 40+3 today and having contractions again so I’m praying this is it 🤞🏻
The worst thing i did with my first labour was panic, this just lead to me spiralling and in fear of my contractions rather than working with them - overall slowed my progress as i was stressed and made baby stress.
Great tips, I can see how these factors played into my two births in different ways. I would love to see a video on how subsequent births may differ from the first time - my second was so much easier that I didn't believe I was in labour for about 9 hours and then barely made it to the birth centre in time 😅
Girl I had my baby in the car too. I had like 3-4 smooth contractions and they were like 20 mins apart. My Water broke and she came out in the car on the way to the hospital it was probably 30 mins after my water broke.. that’s great ur having at home. Safe delivery ❤️❤️
Thanks for sharing! I never had a desire to go for a walk while in labor. I do love the birth ball though, and I used it for swaying mostly. That's what felt comfortable in the beginning of my labor. My labor didn't start at night with my most recent baby. He's almost 3 weeks old, and my labor started at 6 PM. The other two it did, but my water had already broken. So getting up in the middle of the night was a must. I only ever timed my contractions twice. I never did with DD1, and only did with DD2 when they started so I could see how far apart they were. After 20ish minutes I stopped timing them. I timed them with my son- loosely. I was driving when my contractions started. They were coming every 5 to 7 minutes. Longest hour drive ever. I was alone too. I always stay home as long as I can! I was at the hospital for over 10 hours before giving birth with my first, and learned my lesson. I was at the hospital for 53 minutes before DD2 was born and 50 minutes before DS was born. My son's birth was the best experience of the three. I would definitely go all natural again if I have another baby. All of these tips are helpful and make sense.
My OB is trying to rush me to go in soon as I start dilating. What I don’t want is to spend hours on end at the hospital, with the potential of my labor not progressing and then them trying to intervene to rush the process.
@@Myeyesburnbabyburn So don't go in as soon as labor starts. I stay home until I know it's time. Unless there's a medical need to go in before, you don't have to go in as soon as the doctor wants. I waited beyond what my doctors told me for my 2nd and 3rd births.
I remember wearing myself out before I gave birth and it was horrible. It was the summer time and my legs were so soar. I didnt wanna do anything for days after that
That happened to me as well. I’ve been very frustrated because I read the Bradley method and was well educated about the birth process and had already paid for an out of hospital birth- and I still ended up getting an unplanned c section due to non progression.

My waters broke 8.30pm on the Friday and I started having contractions soon after, I thought it was all going to happen quickly so was keeping active all through Friday night and Saturday day but my contractions weren’t getting any closer together - it wasn’t until 1am Sunday that my hubby made me stop timing contractions and have a sleep and less than 1hr later everything sped up and I was ready to go to hospital - but then I was absolutely exhausted when I most needed energy and still had 9 hours to go! Great video, hopefully someone else can benefit from it - just a little late for me!
@@alizahilal7978It really depends. I think you’re supposed to go when you’re having contractions 1 minute long, 5 minutes apart, for about an hour. Water can break well before the contractions start to ramp up, or even after
@@alizahilal7978 I live in New Zealand so there may be different rules here, but I didn't have to go in until my contractions were 3 mins apart. Because it had been so long since my waters broke I needed antibiotics in case of possible infection, but I was fine to still have my early labour at home. But don't take my word for it, if you get different advice from a health professional then go with that!
@@alizahilal7978 My midwife also visited twice during early labour before I went into hospital to check on me and the baby (midwives are professionally registered in NZ) and everything was fine, but if you didn't have that option then maybe going to hospital would be needed?
If contraction don’t go away usually 2 or more hrs and they get more intense as time goes by. They have to be 1 minute long contractions, if they are 5/3/2 minutes apart. Call your obgyn or hospital obgyn and tell them what you are feeling they will let you know as well if they want you to come in.
Generally your OB or midwife will instruct you on when they expect you to go to the hospital. Mine always tell me follow the 5/1/1 (5 minutes between contractions, lasting one minute each, for one hour) rule or if my water breaks go straight in. However, I don't follow their advice because I don't want to be at the hospital longer than necessary. I went to the hospital right after my water broke with my first, and it was over 10 hours before she was born. I waited until I felt like I couldn't handle it any longer with my second, which was about 2.5 hours after my water broke before heading to the hospital. We were there for 53 minutes when she was born. I did the same with my third, only my water didn't break until after I was at the hospital. I was there for 50 minutes when he was born. My son was born 30 minutes after my water broke. I can feel my cervix opening, and my surges are only in my cervix. Because of this I'm able to wait until right before giving birth to head in. My advice is just waiting until you feel like you HAVE to go to the hospital. As mentioned in the video the best thing to do is stay home as long as possible because you're more relaxed. This will help your labor progress as it's meant to. Best to you!
Could you possibly make a video about precipitous labors and techniques that can be used? I just entered my 3rd trimester and my mom and all my sisters who have had babies have had precipitous labors and would love to feel ready.
Almost made this mistake since the shower I took seemed to have halted the surges . Got on the ball and started bouncing but then I read on spinning babies to instead use this time to rest and to later eat something like oatmeal. I’ve been feeling the surges come back since laying down . 😊 currently 40 weeks and 3 days . Hoping this is it.
Thank you for your videos! I'm not going to kid myself I fully plan on getting an epidural. I understand what you're saying about resting and spending as much labor time as possible at home, but I'm afraid that if I spend too much time there I will miss my chance to have pain relief intervention? Also do you have a video or any advice for mamas battling anxiety/panic disorder who are pregnant/in labor?
Such good tips!! My water broke at around 8am but I had no contractions for a couple hours. The hospital still told me to come asap. Baby ended up coming 36h later 😅🙃 could it have been different if I stayed home longer? even if my water broke?
I went to the hospital shortly after my water broke with my first. It was a good thing for me as I had (unknowingly) been in early labor for over a week. I was having contractions that were unproductive. My son was also stuck and in distress. If we hadn't gone right away, there is a good chance neither of us would have made it. However, this is a common thing to happen to women in my family. A similar situation happened with my mom when she had me, and my great grandmother had one child who was stillborn because of this very reason. So, maybe it would have been different if you waited, but maybe it wouldn't have. You have to do what feels right to you.
Bridget, im a birth doula and loved learning so much from your videos during my education and own pregnancy. I’m pregnant with my second and I’m inviting two people from a 2hr distance to my birth (homebirther) do you have any suggestions on how to let them know so they can get here in time? My labor with my first was only seven hours and just so quick. I may have been in labor longer but I was waitressing and it wasn’t that noticeable with me moving so much
I went from zero signs of labour to having pretty close contractions. There was no time for any relaxation at home, the baby was out 6 hours later. I'm very curious how this second birth will play out.
Number five I would not listen to because my fourth kid I was 3 cm and 80% effaced when I showed up at the hospital one hour later I was 8 cm 15 minutes later I had my child
Watching this bc I’m pregnant with my 4th but it’s been 10 years. I’m 36w3d right now but feeling light contractions vs Braxton hicks tightening. I do have an induction set for 39w3d in case he doesn’t come earlier. But I’ve been feeling for awhile he’s gonna come earlier, before end of October. But panicking bc I’m trying to figure out if they really are contractions lol! I feel so silly bc he’s my 4th but all my births were so different. Needing a refresher course lol 😂
So, if my body is so made for birth, why couldn’t I after nearly 3 methods of induction? I worked out throughout my pregnancy, worked out and did labor stretches, walking, strength training, push-ups and squats at the hospital too. I only got to 1cm and water broke. They had to reintroduce fluids. Then, maybe the pitocin or miso her rate to flatten at each contraction. I also had an anxiety attack which I think the down from oxytocin added to it. placenta was tired so the best option was a C-section. I wanted it all natural. I don’t get what I did wrong. I want to have a natural birth for another baby, but my husband just thinks we should schedule a C-Section. I just feel like I failed and am weak for that. On the blessed side, my little girl is healthy 4 month old now, 100% breastfed, and almost double her weight already.
Sometimes we can do everything "right" and things just go differently than we planned. BUT a c-section is NOT failing! My first was born via c-section very early after my induction started and before I really even went into labor. For whatever reason, her heart rate dropped a couple times and she just wasn't tolerating it. The safest option for both of us was a c-section, rather than risking more stress on her during active labor. I wanted to do natural as well, but sometimes things change through no fault of our own. So from one c-section mama to another, kudos to you for being strong through major surgery to safely deliver your little one!
@@rachelixcaragua9355 thank you for your support. See, I just wonder if it’s the induction drugs side effects. I keep looking forward cause baby is doing so well now. I hope your babies (baby age and grown lol) are doing well too!
Each intervention can lead to c section because unnecessary interventions try to force the body to birth before it’s ready. But I pray for you to have a blissful experience next time , may G0d be with you!
Historically women and children died a lot in childbirth, just because we're built for it doesn't mean it always works out. I work on a farm and births go wrong in nature all the time and the babies dying during birth isn't uncommon. Nature isnt kind, natural is disease and death. You tried your best! But don't beat yourself up. You went through a dangerous thing and survived and so did your baby, thats the important thing to be thankful for.
Hey same thing happened to me. I had done everything and believed in the birth process and had paid $2000 in non refundable payment to an out of hospital birth center and ended up having to have a c section after 5 hours of pushing with no progress. It really really sucks hearing all these women with these easy labor stories “oh I pushed for one hour and there she was!”. When I remember choking down 6 dates every day for weeks and drinking the red raspberry leaf tea religiously and doing the exercises. It really makes me angry and feel like I was sold a lie sometimes.

I understand what you're saying about resting and spending as much labor time as possible at home, but I'm afraid that if I spend too much time there I will miss my chance to have pain relief intervention? Also do you have a video or any advice for mamas battling anxiety/panic disorder who are pregnant/in labor?
Thank you for your videos, I do love them so. Not pregnant (yet) and not a momma (yet) but I have a severe case of baby fever haha ❤
Such good tips!! My water broke at around 8am but I had no contractions for a couple hours. The hospital still told me to come asap. Baby ended up coming 36h later 😅🙃 could it have been different if I stayed home longer? even if my water broke?
You definitely don’t need to go to the hospital as soon as your waters break.
Yes, you were on baby number 5. It’s not impossible but that’s very unlikely for majority of women to birth their first or second child.
i think she meant mistake number 5: going to to hospital too early
not child number 5 necessarily
Fourth kid
It probably depends how close you live to the hospital too. I’m 45 minutes away, so I might go in a little sooner.
Please fix your amazon links!!!!
Everyone tells you that once your water breaks to go to the hospital does this mean that you can stay home after this happens?
I think that depends how far along you are. My water broke at 36 weeks and was told to go in asap
Brilliant ❤❤❤
39 weeks and 3 days and have zero signs of any early labor…I just want to hold my baby already 😭🩵
