Great video, Jeff. I always really enjoy watching your glass videos, and I can definitely appreciate "bring your wallet", that's no exaggeration! Also really liked your description of PVB interlayer as a "sound shock absorber". One way to define using different thickness laminated interlayers is to think of .030" for safety applications, .060" for security applications, and .090" for impact applications. Obviously glass thickness and whether the lami was built using annealed, heat strengthened, or tempered can be a factor as well. If you are curious about the edge treatment of your samples, they are made in larger sheets and cut to the sample size using a waterjet.
Great Vid. Should you be concerned about the glass used in vinyl frame vs composite vs wood? Also ..Your thoughts about Lindsay Windows. I have never heard of them.
So, I have a question for you. I work for a larger window distributor, of windows that you do sell and show. With that being said, why does tempered glass weigh more than the annealed glass, for it is the same piece, just heat treated?
Tempered glass does not weigh more than annealed glass of the same thickness. However, it may seem like it because most of the time you will find that manufacturers use thicker glass for tempered projects.
How does a double pane window with a layer of laminated glass compare= to triple pane glass in terms of price, thermal performance, and sound resistance?
I’m building in Accra, Ghana and I’m documenting the journey on my channel. I’m currently at the window stage and I’m sourcing my windows from China for cost reasons. I have been teaching people what I have learned at different stages.
It was laminated annealed glass in the break-in part

Greg, I did not know about the water jet cutting. That makes sense

I've never heard of them either. That glass is good in any frame.
Great video. Im afraid to ask but, in general, how much does laminated add to the cost of a window (in %)...10%, 20%, more?
Usually about 50%

The laminated option is definitely going to cost more. It's also very good at sound. Triple is probably slightly better at U-Factors.
Hi. Do you install windows in Nueces County, or is that too far south for you?
That is too far... Sorry...
laminated glass for sure
I cannot wait till the Dallas branch opens so I can visit. I have learned a lot about windows from you, Jeff. Thank you!
We are opening slowly over the next few weeks. Please let me know if we can help.
