    Spot on, thanks! I prefer moving my music files to the secondary source manually and just doing a backup and restore of the database. That way, it only has to add the files it doesn't already have. Much faster than backing them up through rekordbox. That's provided I haven't deleted files from the primary source, if I have then the secondary source needs the music files deleted and re-added from the primary before restoring the database on the secondary.

    Hi Chirs, I found your video extremely interesting and educational. Thanks for creating it!
    I have quite a niche situation... My computer one day stopped working. So I ripped off my entire memory from it (inc 90GB music) and have that on a 1TB hard-drive. I did not however create a back up of my library meta data... Is this a huge problem or should that file now live somewhere on my 1TB hard-drive?

  • @leesmith2072
    @leesmith2072 Год назад +2

    I’d have liked to see more on backing up music to an external drive. Like, will it keep all the cue points as well? And how do you upload your files back into rekordbox if you need to?

    • @ReallyChrisM
      @ReallyChrisM  Год назад +1

      The rekordbox database is the thing that contains the cue points etc, so just backing up the music files themselves will not retain this. If you chose the option to back up the files as well, then RB will restore everything. Hope that helps :)

    Chris - great videos as always. Thank you.
    Question...If I wanted to change my external HD for a more stable one to store my music, would I just copy the music to the new HD and then tell Rekordbox to look in the new folder on the new HD to find the files. I'm thinking I wouldn't need to back up the database at this point as I'm not changing computer, only the storage. Hope that makes sense!?

    Hey great explanation. However, I still have big issue with History. It does not save tracks, just creates empty playlist with the dates. I play with controller and laptop, more than 60 secs. I'm using an external drive, because I can just go between my laptop and desktop PC. So I keep the music files on this external drive organised in folders by genres and subgenres. The database also on this external SSD. But since March 2022. On the 3rd of March I got the tracks in history, but nothing from the 6th of March, it's empty. I checked the last saved tracks and they are still at the same location on my external drive. I tried to run rekordbox as administrator but did not help. Do you please have any idea?

    • @ReallyChrisM

      You will still need to export your music library from the ‘main’ computer and import it to the secondary one to bring in your meta data. But you *wont* need to include the music files as part of the RB backup, iCloud will handle that

    • @ReallyChrisM
      @ReallyChrisM  Год назад

      In order to restore you need to have done a backup. As the video mentions it's a pretty good idea to store this on an external drive or in the cloud so if your computer dies it doesn't take the backup with it. Hope that helps!

      Hi!
      Have you find a solution for this? I’m going through this nightmare and I’m not sure now to move from here?
      I store my full library on the external drive. I still have my files on there and if I press “no” to that error I can still preview the tracks within the software. But I do wanna get rid of this issue.
      I was right about to buy a new SSD for external backup as my music it’s only on that drive for storage purposes.
      Also since I moved the database to that external from the preferences,I can’t see any Pioneer folder in there. Which I learnt it’s hidden in the ~Library folder on a Mac.

      If you did the backup with the music files included then it should restore them also. Try right clicking on the missing files and doing 'auto relocate'

    Hi mate. This is a great video for me for future reference.
    Can I pick your brains please? as the people at pioneer are not helping me at all.
    In a nutshell I just got my computer updated/wiped as it was mega slow. The comp guy said "we will back all your music up and everything on your hard drive". Turns out I can't find any of my music, it was just downloaded from amazon or wherever so I assume in downloads. That is now empty.
    Panic not, I thought ah well never mind i'd downloaded all that to rekordbox no drama i'll just log in there and all be there with hot cues and playlists as normal.
    I log into Rekordbox and its all gone. Not one song. What has happened here? I'm so confused wouldn't the music, playlists and hot cues just be there as normal?
    Any help would be great. As i'm so confused.
    Liked and followed your page.
    Thanks

    • @ReallyChrisM
      @ReallyChrisM  10 месяцев назад +1

      Sorry to hear that!
      Rekordbox doesn't store any music itself when you drag it in. It just references the files on your computer. If those go, RB wont be able to play anything.
      The only way around this is to have a RB backup which *also* contains the music files themselves as mentioned in the video.
      If the techies didn't do this backup within RB first and wiped the entire computer then unfortunately it sounds like everything is gone 😔
