- For DJs, your track selection plays a HUGE part in whether or not your set is successful. Part of that selection process is thinking about harmonic mixing - or mixing in key. There's a feature in the latest version of Rekordbox which highlights tracks in a matching key to your current track. It takes only a couple minutes to set up, but the payoff is huge for your DJ sets!

You're probably not in a playlist but opening your music through the explorer tab in rekordbox
I think it needs to be a playlist? that’s the only time i see it, wish it was always there. If there’s a way i’d love to know.

I only see it in playlists in my collection, not in playlists on usbs

How do you analyze all of the tracks though? Because I have to load every one of them in order to change the key. And I did command all and it didn’t analyze it

when i right click, no "analyse track" button shows up, only "add to collection", "remove fron playlist", "update collection" and "show information"

Works better on some genres than others but normally pretty good!
Good stuff. A few weeks back before a Halloween party I sent an old friend and former public school music teacher my track list, and asked her to order them in sets of pleasing key progressions. Of course she doesn't know any of this music and as such only reacted to the key listings in the screen shot of my playlist. I re-arranged my set based on her input, and it killed at the party. With your great instruction here, I can now do it on the fly as I add more songs to my sets. Thanks for another 100% useful video. - "JustMusicJeff"

I like it! But it's certainly not the only way to do a transition. Depends very much on the tracks and vibe you are trying to create
Thank U so mutch - but i have the Problem that some Tracks its showing 8A and on other Tracks its still Em, Dm and so on - what can i do to get it on really all Tracks ? I analyzed Them multiple times

Is this function also possible if you just dj with an usb? All my tracks went through rekordbox first so all info is in the files and shows up but I can't find the option for traffic key? I have the pioneer cdj xz.
Awesome tips and you explain stuff in a very funny way which makes it easier to understand. I dont see a MASTER button just above the playlist on my version (v6) shown at the timeframe 2:21so i cant get it to do what you have shown. Do i need to change a setting somewhere to see this? Cheers
This can happen if browsing streaming service playlists. Move the tracks to a rekordbox created playlist and it should show up in there 👍🏼
@@ReallyChrisM - YEAH ITS WORKING !! :) - I had to analyse all of the music which was ported into Rekordbox viaTidal. I then had to right click on the track and move it into a playlist and magically the MASTER button appeared. Is there a way of importing music from Tidal straight into the playlist that I have created? Looking forward to watching the next video :) :)

Lot of people using Mixed in Key but that sacrifices Traffic Light from my understanding. Any thoughts on that matter?
First of all many thanks for the video, second for some reason the master button appear on my recordbox, but as soon as I go to my USB device on recordbox isn’t there any more, and I use sync manager to transfer the songs and playlist from the computer to the device, not streaming at all
Yeah as far as i can tell it only seems to appear when browsing local rb created playlists, not sure why 🤷🏻♂️

I found the key analysis in Rekordbox is not always accurate.
From my experience, Mixed In Key is more accurate. Hopefully Pioneer can improve in the future.
Same. Always trusted it and the way it named them alphanumeric. Up until now I didn't know you could change that option.

Wicked tip bud I jst updated rekord box to 6.6.5 for mac and now my usbs are being found in rekordbox any ideas on how to sort it ?
I’m not too sure unfortunately - you can download and roll back to an old version from the pioneer faq section which might help

V6, won’t work on playlists from streaming services which may be your issue
Hey Chris, the 2nd master drop down list at 2:20 is not there for me. Traffic lights also isn't working for me. Can't seem to figure out why not. I was already using alphanumeric to mix but I think it would be great if it lights up, helps a lot with mixing when you're short on time and all that... Great vid btw!
If you are using streaming tracks the master thing will only appear if you copy them to a native RB playlist - hope that helps!
I have the same issue. I created a playlist on my PC and exported the playlist to an USB drive. I plugged the USB drive into my Laptop which I use with my DDJ FLX4 and I don't see the master drop down list. If I go back to my PC (where I originally created the playlist), I can see the drop down list. So it seems only to work on the computer where you created the playlist.

Heyo, so I found a problem in rekordbox with this feature + My Tags feature.
I have all my music on my USB, since I don't have enough space on my notebook, but rekordbox doesn't allow My Tags on USB + setting song to master for Traffic Light settings.
Any solution to this other than exporting all my music to my PC?

How do I use this trick if I'm playing with cdjs (2000/3000)?
If you are using the cdj's to control rekordbox as midi controllers it's the same...the 3000's have this feature built in I believe - it should be an option in the track filter sections called 'key'. Not sure about the 2000's sorry!

Ensure you are analysing by key in Rekordbox for when you export to USB. In the browse section on the device there should be an option to view by key. Good luck!

Only problem is if your library is in Itunes and you mix out of that then it doesnt work.
There's a similar issue if you play directly from streaming services. The best workarounds i've found are either to just create a duplicate playlist in rekordbox with the tracks, or to create a tag for whatever the iTunes playlist is called and then create an intelligent playlist with them and use that instead
I would love to say this video helped me, but on my rekordbox there’s no second master button anywhere to be found, and I can’t seem to find the solution online, any help?

do you know why my key songs do not light up, for example i might be playing something 8A and i can see there is another song 8A or 8B but it doesn't light up...

Most likely you are browsing your playlists directly from the streaming service within rekordbox. Copy them to rekordbox playlists and it should show up :) Not sure what you mean by installing to a USB stick?
In my rekordbox the small master button is not visible at all any idea how to make it appear? I have all the other buttons next to it.
I had this issue too when playing directly from streaming playlists. Is that what you are using? You will need to make a Rekordbox playlist to move them into and then it should show up :)

The Traffic light section does not exist in my settings. Just goes from key display format to colour. Anyone else have this?

after more research, it appears to show up when i use a playlist that is not soundcloud. is there something i have to do to get this to appear on my soundcloud playlist?
It won’t work for streaming playlists you will need to drag them to a RB playlist first

If you are browsing a streaming service you need to copy the tracks to a Rekordbox playlist first to see it

I use tidal too and assuming you have created a new playlist within RB and dragged the tidal tracks into it I don't know why it isn't showing tbh

I needed to import The play list. So had it in rekordbox but had not klicked import! Now lets dj!
I've analysed my full folder but the info is only showing for half of it, really annoying

Sometimes I find RB gets stuck when analysing loads of files at once. I normally just fire it off again and it gets through the remaining
