  • Doug Kalitta raced to his second consecutive Top Fuel victory of the season Sunday at the Summit Racing Equipment NHRA Southern Nationals at Atlanta Dragway.
    Kalitta powered his Mac Tools dragster to a 3.801-second pass at 323.19 mph to defeat Kalitta Motorsports teammate J.R. Todd’s 3.780 at 320.66 in his SealMaster dragster on a holeshot in the final round. Kalitta tallied his 40th career victory and third at Atlanta Dragway. The margin of victory between Kalitta and Todd was .0000, making it the closest Top Fuel race in NHRA history. It was the first time since 2006 that two Kalitta Motorsports Top Fuel cars decided a final. Kalitta sprinted past Terry Haddock, eight-time world champ Tony Schumacher and reigning world champ Antron Brown in the earlier rounds.

      It was noted Doug left 21 thousandth sooner and JR ran 21 thousandth faster for a 'dead even finish'.
      But Doug crossed the line first....
      It was noted that NHRA computers go a bit further in digits than the pylon can show.
      So, while the commentators are talking a dead even finish; it really was not.
      And they don't give the actual time difference in this closest finish ever.
      Or the photo; but as many have mentioned, plenty video of men rolling around on the ground...smh....

People, this is my “local” track and I have pictures of 3 concessions buildings that have the roof rotted and wide gaping holes that are extremely visible to the public! This is absolutely a disgrace to us who call this our home! If you want to sell it then contact me and I will put an investor group together and make Atlanta Dragway Great Again!!!!!!!!!!!!

      To expand on Jared's comment, also if you happen to be the driver see the light go green and your car is not already moving, you are screwed.

    • @DiegoCargnin
      @DiegoCargnin 8 лет назад

      well then they are both disquallified. If you put at 0.25 speed 1.36 you can see the cars spining tyres with red light. But as mjs28s said its common for the car to be already moving on green

    • @kylecampbell1444
      @kylecampbell1444 7 лет назад

      They leave on yellow. But the time it takes for car to actually start moving is accounted into that. The starting line beams are about a foot apart say they can move a little with out starting the clock. The tire will wrinkle and the rim turns before the outside of the tire by about 10%. All that time is accounted for by the drivers. The reason a food leaver will is hard to bear.
