I enjoyed this video because my kit has been lying in storage for over a year. And with covid-19, I am becoming mad. I was always afraid to spray can paint it. But now I plucking the courage. Fingers crossed it goes well. Guitar and covid :) Cheers Chris
I had strictly no "spray paint technique" while painting this guitar kit. I've never used "spray paint" before ! And no matter the "spray paint technique" because a few months after, the painting result is clean, solid and really nice looking. So, I wanted to say that everyone can use spray paint without being a specialist. Have fun !! In fact, the only problem comes from the satin acrylic varnish which is too fragile...
Nothing wrong with just going at it, especially for something this cheap. But really, you need to start the strokes before the item and finish after the item so the paint is even.
Dude, this videos are perfect for noobs who want make a custom guitar. My only question is, when you used Paint & Varnish what was time before next round? It's something like a "recommended time" or you just wait to dry up? I want use your tutorial but with nitrocellulose paint...
Hi ! First of all, I'm not a big specialist and note that I used acrylic paint and varnish for acrylic. I remember that I was waiting 24h for acrylic paint and 48h for varnish. It was a mix between recommended time, dry sensation while slightly touching and also the smell. I hope it will help you... Good luck.
Hi ! It's probably true... I didn't notice any impact on the final result. Sanding paper ? It was light but not the lighter I had at this time. So I would say 1000 or 1500.
God almighty who in the hell taught you to spray paint in this hideous fashion. It's long even strokes with the grain in a fine even spray. At least to tried to sand along the wood grain. My god it's painful to watch.
I believe I would have sanded first with 400 grit, two coats of high build primer (sanding between) and then a tack coat of color sanded with 600, two finish coats sanded with 600, then 800 and up to 2000 or 3000 and polish to a shine. That's just me. But what the hell, if you're happy and it looks good do your own thing!
Chrisdava you're cool, there's no "right" way. If it looks good, it is good. I use high fill primer to fill in the grain. In the end paint and sand will get you there. There's a lot of trolls out there. Ignor them and play on!
@@Aikidoman06 so you don't fill the wood grain first on mahogany? You can just use a primer for that? Seems much easier to me. Gonna give that a try!! Thanks!
Mike Anderson it must be sanded well and use “filler” primer. Of course after three or four coats of primer you might find areas the need a filler. It’s all about taking your time and slowly building a smooth base.
@@MikeAndersonvinyloldies and don't always think that you have to fill in the grain. I love the look of mahogany grain . You can also just stain it the color you want and apply a clear over it. Just another option to think of
Hey Chris, i have a question, did you sand down the guitar before your first coat? the manual says, its already prepared to be painted. Thanks in advance
@@Porschetheus As I said many times, I had no problems with the painting. But the varnish was much more difficult to do and mine is fragile. Good luck with your project 👍
using words would have been way better than just music, would love to hear what you were doing and why, what you were using, what worked, what didn't, etc.
Acrylic o boy....it will never be totally ding proof. i bet you can sink your nails into it now ???? you should of tried 2 pac clear . but all my tests with Acryl have never gave me results iv been happy with. good luck... hope she works out for you.
Yes this guitar works out for me. As you say, it's a little bit fragile. But, for me, it's not because of the acrylic paint, it's because of the varnish : I should have waited longer before spraying the second coat.
Technique. Not so much.. But it’s the results that counts!
... and I like the result. So thank you so much for your comment !

For sure, this is the good time to do that !
Très bien Chris..... beautiful DIY guutar 🎸👍
Merci 😊
@@Chrisdava you're welcome :) Finished my first DIY guitar a couple of weeks ago and I would like to hear your opinion Chris 😎🎸
@@BadassBrutusGuitar Ok 👍
Sweet Jesus.....that has to be the worst spray paint technique I've ever seen....
I cringed a good amount, the end result was decently clean though, but I’m not sure if it’s gonna last too long

That "coat" of paint was brutal to watch, learn by doing tho...Gitsum
I thought I was being too cynical but dayumm Gina!!
I hope my first build looks half as good as yours!

Someone needs to learn how to spray paint. Step one : shake can till rattle stops. Flat surface and still had more runs than a marathon.
@@davidmacleod9313 that's what I'm saying I've never heard that before and I've never heard a paint can with no rattle
Good job, Chris!
Thank you !
THAT LOOKS AWESOME SO FAR MY FRIEND !! \M/

I was taught never to use finger tips when sanding. Finger tips leave ruts in the finished job. Curious to know what grades of paper you were using.

Thank you so much 👍
did you spray onto the body as it was taken out of the box or did you sand the sealer/ add primer or anything?
Yes! Some lessons in using a spray paint can would have been good.
Why ?
Did u sand it becore applying the spray?
yes
hi! what number of sandpaper did you use to sand the paint?.
good work by the way!
Hi ! That was very light sanding. I would say 1000 or 1500. Thanks for your comment !!

thanks for the reply :) yeah i thought id do a little aswell, cause i dont wanna mess up my finish! Cheers

Yes : light sanding.
