    DK, not ready to give up on Leal yet but you're right, he might not make the team if he doesn't step up his game! This is gonna be a huge TC for him, he's at the crossroads for sure but the few interviews i saw of him this spring, he looked fired up about what he has to do

    DK, I wasn’t gonna say anything, I was just gonna sit and listen to the show on the way to work this morning. But the more I listen to you, the more I’m scratching my head. When Marvin was a rookie, you praised him you really did. He had the second year, sophomore slump. And this morning you’re putting him in the same sentence as Isaiah Loudermilk a guy who Kevin Colbert drafted and is still on the roster as a back up whatever. So if Loudermilk is still on the team you don’t think D’Marvin can secure a spot. he should definitely have a chip on his shoulder, and all the motivation in the world to come to camp kick a $$ and chew bubblegum, and be fresh out of bubble gum. Good show,

      Leal was a tweener. He was an edge guy in college but he doesn't fit and olb role in a 3-4, too big. He wasn't big enough to play a 3-4 end. The talent was there, but he he has been trying to put on muscle and weight. You can't have guys getting pushed put. Loudermilk is more of an anchor. Don't get me wrong, he's not great, but he could hold more than leal. It looks like leal has put on some man strength. Some people never get actual man strength. Maybe it's a lack of testosterone today, idk. (Haha) if he can anchor and not get pushed out, then he'll get the time and loudermilk will be out. Leal just has more talent. This is what makes adams more valuable than most, he ability to not get pushed in the run game. What makes cam a wrecking ball is that he doesn't only anchor, he penetrats and blows up the run. Those are special people. Hargrave had that and benton very well may break out and he doesn't have his man strength yet. Just weight until that happens. And yes, man strength is a real thing and it's why a college will never touch an NFL team.

      @DKPittsburghSportsSteelers  2 дня назад +4

      Yep. Simple as that. I mean, we don't have to wonder about this. Loudermilk was getting a helmet when Leal wasn't. Spoke volumes, I'd say. -

    Sooo my question to you DK is why does this happen with Tomlin and the Steelers coaches? It seems to happen often with development of their players .Is it no vision ? Why do they try to shove a square peg into a round hole

  • @SquatchWatcher

    I thought DeMarvin Leal was another guy that looked leaner during OTA's. They were disappointed in DeMarvin's conditioning last summer. He took diet/exercise more serious this spring

  • @nolashawn
    @nolashawn 2 дня назад +1

    What do you do with Benton? Limit him to nose tackle, the few times they’re in their base 3-4? Or in a 3 man rotation to spell Hayward and Ogunjobi? (I like that for OLB Herbig too.)

  • @TheeEgyptianQueen
    @TheeEgyptianQueen 2 дня назад +4

    You took thise 2 names right out of my mouth, who I was wondering. If Leal doesn't make it, why is Adams & Loudermilk still on the team? I don't consider either one of those guys much better than Leal. If the fact that Leal is better in a 4-3 defense based on what you said, then okay, I get it. I wish he would really step up and surpise us all.
    LET'S GOOOOO STEELERS ! 💛🖤

      @Runescape_God 2 дня назад

      They seem to really like Adams and Loudermilk, for reasons that are unknown to me. Adams has an incredibly fast get-off the line, but really doesn’t produce much in the stats category. And he is certainly not a nose tackle despite usually lining up there. Loudermilk is tagged as a “run stuffer” but I really don’t see him doing much of that.

    • @TheeEgyptianQueen
      @TheeEgyptianQueen 2 дня назад

      @@Runescape_God well-spoken, well-spoken I think I recall Loudermilk getting a sack a couple years ago but he produces no splash, and even when atoms is out there I don't see much of a splash from him either, so for the Steelers to be holding on to them while not resigning players that are starters, or picking up Najee Harris's 5th year option, unless they're going to sign him to an extension, makes no sense to me. I mean kudos to Adams and Loudermilk to still be employed on a football team and beginning a bag to really absolutely do nothing. I understand that their backups to give our starters a rest when necessary

    I still think he could've been an Edge on Nickel/Dime. He was a tweener when they drafted him, but instead of doubling down on making him a 3-4 end, they should have slimmed him down and focused on his athleticism. He would be a 4th pass rusher right now, instead of 8th or 9th in a room that rarely keeps more than 6. ❤️🔥🍻

      @a93456358 2 дня назад +2

      I think the Steelers didn't know what to do with him and we may have ruined him. He should have never been drafted by a team that mostly uses the 3-4 defense. This is a 4-3 player and could have been put in a system that would make him better.

  • @markbrophy554
    @markbrophy554 2 дня назад +1

    I don't consider Leal a draft bust. He was and is a non-fit in the Steeler defensive scheme. I do however consider Loudermilk a draft bust, which typically can't be said for a 5th rounder. But they traded up to get Loudermilk and his frame does fit the defensive scheme (ie Aaron Smith and Brett Kiesel). Neither player has been close to being productive. Khan/Weidle should now turn their attention from the offensive line to the defensive line for the 2025 draft.

    Leal is another example of terrible, pre-Kahn/Weidl drafting. Leal was never a fit. They should not have drafted him. Now he's being called a bum or bust because he doesn't fit another one of Tomlin's flawed philosophies. Square peg, in a found hole. Coach should have been relieved of his duties years ago.

  • @steelking22

    Leal is a 3-4 DE. If Tomlin can't convert Leal's athleticism into a productive player, that is a failure of Tomlin's and the staff.
