I’ve just covered Lana on my podcast! ✨✨✨ My episode with @FernStone goes down a surprising (and political) rabbit hole 👀listen to the episode here: linktr.ee/CriminallyUnderratedPod 🥰
she lost 3 people. grandparents and Dave. Fingertips is her rawest track ever she talks about relying on antidepressants and etc, her suicide attempt at 15, her childhood crush dying, specifically how her mom treated her, and even more. she laid it all out for us.
I get such sadistic joy from watching reactions to this album knowing in advance that the listener is going to have a complete meltdown once they get to Kintsugi.
This album is so good! Instead of putting ahead or behind NFR I want to put it side by side. Like a counterpart. Norman is King and Tunnel is Queen. Norman talks about the wider world and landscapes while Tunnel talks about the world within.
I love the way you put that! It’s been hard for me to decide which one I prefer because I feel like they both represent such different things and are equally game changing in her discography differently.
Tbh I really don't understand the obsession to rank her albums in general. They're all so different and deal with different themes and concepts. Even her first four albums they all have such different sound. How can they be compared? They're all great.
@@karolinak7140 I certainly agree! I can’t speak for others but for me personally I’m never ranking albums as a means to determine what is a good album and what isn’t but more so which album experience do I enjoy more and what resonates most with me. For example, I think NFR is a fantastic album and a major turning point in her discography but I still would rank Honeymoon as my favourite as it’s my favourite sound she’s had and I love having it as a soundtrack to beautiful scenes and feelings in my life. I think the reason a lot of people also rank is just because they love an artists work so they want to find a way to engage with their own inner thoughts and opinions of the work and share it with others who also love said artist but may have a totally different perspective.
for kintsugi when she says "i don't know anyone left to know the songs that i sing" after she talks about old folk songs is i think her talking about how the ppl who raised her and taught her all this old music she takes inspo from are all going one by one...she's realising no one in her life is alive to know the references and the inspirations in her music
Lana with this album took us to a forgotten tunnel, to a church and even a mass, to her home with her family, to her diary from years past and in her actuality, to funerals, she took us to the studio where she creates her art, to nightclubs, and she took us to her person, soul, body and heart This album is amazing and I love it, I always think of my list of favorite Lana albums but honestly what am I lying to you for, fuck it, they are all my favorite albums and I think she is the only artist with whom this happens to me. I was waiting for your reaction 🫂
My theory is that this album is a transition album. Her first three albums lead up to lust for life and she transitioned to a new era with her albums nfr cotcc bb and now ocean blvd and how she ended the era with taco truck x VB she’s reminiscing about the beginning but also saying this is the end fully encapsulating this four album era so I believe we’re gonna start a complete new era after this maybe
I agree!!! She's clearly been reflecting on her life a lot and figuring out how she wants to move forward. She's closing out a lot of the running themes of her music. My best friend got scared because she thought Lana was going to quit music just because of how conclusive this album feels. It's like the final chapter of a book. But I don't think Lana is ever going to stop releasing music. I think she's just going through a sort of rebirth.
@@JustAHorrorShow no I legit had the same thought before the album even came out cuz I heard critic reviews saying how she was gonna end the album all crazy so I thought she was gonna basically be saying goodbye and now I’m a little scared of that too hahah but I think we’ll definitely get more music in the future
yes i absolutely agree, it’s the reason why some part of this album takes tiny refrences from the last three albums and closing the chapter. But she loves music and as she said she is a compulsive writer, so i bet something is coming, and different
the grants is about taking the memories with you when you die. its not about exiting a relationship. "my sisters first child, my grandmothers last smile"
i LOVE the interludes so much and there's not a single religious bone in my body. i'm also a huge fan of violent bent backwards so this was always gonna hit for me. the interludes are so powerful and UNIQUE! never heard another artist tackle spoken word poetry like lana has and she owns it
Kintsugi "three of out three" refers to to the respective deaths of her Uncle, her grandfather and her grandmother. She could only be there for her grandmother’s passing.
I’ve watched a lot of people reacted to the album and I really appreciate the fact that you were able to appreciate the interludes. My first listen i didn’t really get what was going on, but when I sit down and listen through the whole album, the interludes fit in well and has unique messages on their own. Excellent album and Excellent reaction as always!
Aw thank you!! Yeah the interludes for me are like a big wash of emotion to get lost in and the Judah Smith one is so menacing it fits perfectly after A&W
You’re so sensitive and kind person! Seems like you listen to Lana’s songs by all your big heart, and that’s why you can find such a deep meaning in her music 😭 thanks for your beautiful reaction! ❤
Hey, commenting this for some kind of basic clarity that i've really not seen around much, Taco Truck x VB, is really a more complex song than it appears to be. This song is, in my opinion, her best closer ever, the meaning is just genius. This song is essentially a fuck you to the critics, she says in the taco truck part ‘imagine if we actually gave a fuck’ and that she’s aware of how she’s perceived by them and how they actually do hate her. She says they spin her stories into a homogenous mix and leave no space for nuance and then print it into the reviews but it won’t phase her. And then to end this ‘fuck you’ at the critics with a remixed crazy version of the song that actually got her respect among critics for her innovating herself and that also “happens” to be a song about just not caring at all. To quote Venice bitch, she’s saying she’s fresher out of fucks forever. Genius.
Lana's father is not dead, she has always been very very close to him, he's with her everywhere, they live together in LA along with her brother Charlie and her sister chuck (Caroline) who had a baby recently
! cried with Kitsugui. I remember how my great-grandmother died and then her daugther (4 years later) whom literally raise me when I was little, she used to live with me and my mom, both of them died on the same hospital I did not even spent christmas with them I had too many months without seeing them however I went and visit them in the hospital, I'm glad I did bc it was the last time I could hold them and see them. My uncle grandmother said to me that day she did not want to die (bc her mother died in the same place, she did not trust the doctors and wanted to be in another hospital *I was young and did not had enough money to move her) I told her: "don't worry u will be fine, u are going to get better while I hold her hand, I kiss her and I went home. Next morning while I was preparing to visit her, my uncle told me the news... I would give everything to go back to December and spent it with her *she was diabetic and drank a juice with sugar that was gave to her by the church members* I Miss them so so much ❤
I adore your reactions❤️. I was sobbing for half of this album. Lana took us on a journey with this one. Instant classic, and album of the year for me.
I’m watching this in premiere so idk if you already realised but the grants is about her family, her real name is Elizabeth Grant that’s why the grants is called the grants. A lot of songs on this record are about her family. Chuck (Caroline) is her sister and Charlie is her brother.
I love this album because it is so defining as lana as an indivudal, hearing it has shifted my viewpoint of all her other works to date. I think deep sea fishing is my favorite
Does anyone else notice that the chords at the beginning are reminiscent of Pretty When You Cry, and the melody under the lyrics "carribean blue in sweater weather" is reminiscent of Chemtrails over the Country and then when you get into the chorus-y part it's reminiscent of West Coast and ending with VB. Genius!
My interpretation of the Candy Necklace is that it’s the “child like” character that the guy has. We know Lana likes going back to that child like innocence and care free life. And this guy is reckless and restless, very childish. But even though he should be a grown man and an adult, he’s very childish and she kinda loves that about him. I can be wrong tho. I think is her best and personal album! ❤️ also, braiding hair is an intimacy thing.
Lana also made reference to this guy in her song Norman F--- Rockwell. Remember when she sang 'Goddamn manchild' and 'You act like a kid even though you stand six foot two'?
Lol so even though I’m a Patreon and already watched your full unedited reaction I’m watching this one as well because I love your reaction so much. Also this way I can rewatch it and save some time 😆but nothing compares to your full reaction! It was a great journey with you the first time!
Loved the reaction video! My favorite so far--you brilliantly captured the how AMAZING and GENIUS this album is! So many metaphors and so much meaning behind the songs and the album title/tunnel! love love love
I am surprised you didn’t get heartbroken listening to Fingertips, she opens her heart and tells us her hard life experiences, it is horrifying to read what her mother did to her…
This album BLEW me away, like how could u do another masterpiece? This album is definitely on top of the top! I love your channel ❤ Edit: While watching this video I was like fuck it, and ordered the ocean blvd and honeymoon vinyl. IM SO EXITED AAHHH
Thank you for listening and really appreciate the interludes!! ive watched a lot of ocean blvd reactions and you are the first one to really listen to them🥹🥹
remember that lanas mom sent her to an institution in spain, so she can be away, she lost her granpa, grandma and uncle, when her uncle passed away they gave her the news thru a phone call and she missed the funeral… her mom also told her that she cant have babies since she isn’t mentally “ok”. who does that to her child?? thats why in fingertips she didn’t mention her mom, and in A&W said “i havent seen my mother in a long long time”. in GPSOTSOMFWHDSF she mentioned “three white butterflies” that they also make a reference to her granpa, grandma and uncle. 💔💔 this album is so heartbreaking but also a masterpiece, i love it!! probably my favorite 🤭
since this album is very retrospective of her entire discography I've always thought the white butterflies were referencing her song "happiness is a butterfly", asking for a sign of happiness from her passed loved ones.
Agh You’re reaction !! knew you had mental breakdown on kintsgi 😂 cause I still crying while listening this song. This album is hitting so hard for me because I’m single at 30. Even if I don’t wanna have a child on my own. I think like “maybe should I ?” Cause this society. And TACO TRUCK x VB ❤ I didn’t realize that she had dream about her early age on that night ! Margaret part so much make sense. “Never die Not tonight Lake placid” was insane💔when I first listened, smiling in tears 😭🥹 I’m so happy for her journey🎉🎉
Kinstugi and Margaret are the songs who tear me up and ended me up crying. Margaret it was a happy song but since I am a hopeless romantic I am really genuinely happy and supportive for everyone who find their one true love. But Kintsugi is just fucking phenomenal track ever!
Ooh I feel like the opening track is sorta like Lana trying to get ready to put all these words together to tell a story. Kinda like talking to yourself before giving a big speech. So beautiful.
i just need lana to see ur kintsugi reaction. i don't even like this song so much but the way she reached u though her art is just beautiful. she should know it. it really touched ur heart. sending u love ♥️
My favorite part of this is the corresponding lyrics and themes in peppers and fishtail. Where braiding hair is intimate in fishtail in a living way but in peppers it’s very sexualized. Like it’s so cool seeing 2 sides of the same situations
watching this after these grammy noms makes me root so much for her. i can't believe she's upping the ante after all these years with her songwriting. like, kintsugi is easily her best song ever.
I heard of a great interpretation and have to share! The album is based off a tunnel, the first few songs are dark as she has just entered the tunnel. The middle is the darkest and the end is the light at the end of the tunnel xX.
I think I figured out candy necklaces!! The guy can’t give her a diamond but merely a candy neckless and when she says candy necklesses she knows he’s giving them to others too but she’s still obsessed by the little love crumbs Also cinnamon in my teeth it burns when you kiss..but shouldn’t a kiss be sweet? Like Lana said in blue jeans love is mean and love hurts
When I first listened to Candy Necklaces I read it as “candy necklaces” being something sweet he comes home with around his neck, like the scent of a woman’s perfume or lipstick on the collar sorta thing.
Is lana’s best album hands down. So existencial and mortal,,but realizing there is only one way to go and thats forward-ending with venice beach. The album feels like a tunnel,,,dark darker lighter light-her whole catalogue feels like that, a coming of age. Ugh mother😪🤍
Love your comment on the intro of "the grants" that it's actually another form of Americana - I didn't make that connection but you're absolutely right. I do think it's both a nice surprise on a LDR track, and it reminds me of Destiny's Child esp. "Gospel (Medley)" - final/outro track on the Survivor album - 3 part vocal, harmony, acapella. So lol your connecting gospel as Americana is brilliant actually bc even the title of DC's track is 'gospel' but it's the gospel-African American sound & folks as inrinsic to American identity - thus Americana must entail that strand & not just white, nationalism, country, frontier. Sorry comment is so long I just had my mind explode into smithereens. (I'm responding as I watch, so I see you explained my immediate reaction later lol)
I just sing casually so I know a bit about keys, chords, scales but by ear. I'm surprised you noted a key change from gospel medley to LDR's first line. I def hear the vocal going about an octave down but loved that her performance sounded like it mirrored or at least connected to the intro. If you see this do you mind briefly explaining this? lol
Ocean Boulevard: don't you think there's a continuity from lyrics/narrative on Black Bathing Suit & Ocean B? In Black B she opens w her desire for a partner, but unlike many of her songs, sets a boundary - "the only time you'll ever see me is in your dreams, and in my black bathing suit. Cause what I really meant is when I'm being honest I'm tired of this shit 'Cause my body is my temple, my heart is one too* (comment: stating/justifying/levelling w this man: my body has evolved I'm not the image/person I was in earlier years. This is me, how I look but I love my form. Then the same refrain w her soul/heart as evolved, take me as I am)* The only thing that still fits me is this black bathing suit *(again, everything from the past, what you knew me to be and look like isn't carried over into who I am now. But she's kept this cozzie as like the stand in for that she's still foundationally the same person but a diff. version)* You don't know me any better than they do, baby (again, emphasising - whatever image/idea you have of me is no longer applicable.Love the real and present me now, not the idea of who I am)*
Yeah I think it might not actually be a full on key change because if you compare the beginning to later in the song it's the same so I think it must be a borrowed chord from an adjacent key which in first listen sounds like a big step
I absolutly love see the reactions of this album just for the people jumping with the scream in jon baptiste interlude and for they getting chocked with peppers
1:01:22 "maybe he's representing the boy who's in love with Margaret" this is was so funny knowing Lana wrote this song about the Jack and Margaret's love story
All of her music is amazing & each album is the top album for its era. They're all so good. I cant say they're all equal but very close. Some albums literally dont have 1 bad song.. well, none of them do to me. Even if I don't like it at 1st, eventually I will. She's just amazing & a lyrical genious

Loved your reaction and your point of view about Ocean BLVD. Greetings from Brazil 😊
You’re so sweet and kind. Thank you!
I’ve been waiting for this one ❤️
i just need lana to see ur kintsugi reaction. i don't even like this song so much but the way she reached u though her art is just beautiful. she should know it. it really touched ur heart. sending u love ♥️
Crazy how songs like this can really take you back it's super healing though 😊
My favorite part of this is the corresponding lyrics and themes in peppers and fishtail. Where braiding hair is intimate in fishtail in a living way but in peppers it’s very sexualized. Like it’s so cool seeing 2 sides of the same situations
Your reaction of Kintsugi connected with me on such a personal level. Thank you for such an open and honest reaction. Sending love🙏🏼💙
Your reaction to Kintsugi is literally the same as mine but I would say I cried much more. Lmao
Her father is still alive and putting out an album in June with two songs featuring Lana.
Her best album and I adore NFR
watching this after these grammy noms makes me root so much for her. i can't believe she's upping the ante after all these years with her songwriting. like, kintsugi is easily her best song ever.
I actually loved the Judith Smith part. I felt it was raw.
This man makes the best reaction of all RUclips
His reaction to kinstugi made me realise the importance of the song and now it's stick to my heart now 🙂
I heard of a great interpretation and have to share! The album is based off a tunnel, the first few songs are dark as she has just entered the tunnel. The middle is the darkest and the end is the light at the end of the tunnel xX.
“Oooh! Harmonies… yayy!” - so perfect
i always love your reactions!!! 🥺
thank you!!!
I think I figured out candy necklaces!! The guy can’t give her a diamond but merely a candy neckless and when she says candy necklesses she knows he’s giving them to others too but she’s still obsessed by the little love crumbs
Also cinnamon in my teeth it burns when you kiss..but shouldn’t a kiss be sweet? Like Lana said in blue jeans love is mean and love hurts
Candy Necklace is the masterpiece!!!
When I first listened to Candy Necklaces I read it as “candy necklaces” being something sweet he comes home with around his neck, like the scent of a woman’s perfume or lipstick on the collar sorta thing.
Ooooooo good interpretation!
My algorithm served today. Love your reaction. Keep up the good work 🤗🤗
Nice reaction! I agree, definitely one of her best albums!
HABÍA ESPERADO TANTO POR ESTA REACCIÓN 😭
Greatest music artist of the 2000s..This is the top tier of musicianship any genre, any year.
everything laid bare on this album, what a blessing
Love u’r reactions dear go on ❤
I waited so much for this reaction ❤
I cried again with you during kintsugi i had the same reaction god i love ur reaction ahh im still crying 🥺🥺🥺🤍
I have the same reaction in Kintsugi
I AM SO EXCITED
Cause what I really meant is when I'm being honest
I'm tired of this shit
'Cause my body is my temple, my heart is one too* (comment: stating/justifying/levelling w this man: my body has evolved I'm not the image/person I was in earlier years. This is me, how I look but I love my form. Then the same refrain w her soul/heart as evolved, take me as I am)*
The only thing that still fits me is this black bathing suit *(again, everything from the past, what you knew me to be and look like isn't carried over into who I am now. But she's kept this cozzie as like the stand in for that she's still foundationally the same person but a diff. version)*
You don't know me any better than they do, baby (again, emphasising - whatever image/idea you have of me is no longer applicable.Love the real and present me now, not the idea of who I am)*
Yeah I think it might not actually be a full on key change because if you compare the beginning to later in the song it's the same so I think it must be a borrowed chord from an adjacent key which in first listen sounds like a big step
you are incredible, I love watching your vidoes and listen to you speak so beautifully, thanks!
I absolutly love see the reactions of this album just for the people jumping with the scream in jon baptiste interlude and for they getting chocked with peppers
I think in grants she's talking about death, she's gonna take the memories with her
Yeah I realised that after a few listens!
1:01:22 "maybe he's representing the boy who's in love with Margaret" this is was so funny knowing Lana wrote this song about the Jack and Margaret's love story
Great reaction! Love It! ❣️❣️
This album just keeps growing on me 🧚♂️
One of her best. Perfection ❤
I cried with you 😢

most expected reaction on RUclips!!!! It was worth it
I love your reactions!!! I had the same reaction with Kintsugi, my fav one! Amazing album, i love Lana so much! 😭❤️
A&W is less about fear and more about her going crazy
All of her music is amazing
& each album is the top album for its era. They're all so good. I cant say they're all equal but very close. Some albums literally dont have 1 bad song.. well, none of them do to me. Even if I don't like it at 1st, eventually I will. She's just amazing & a lyrical genious
I always look forward to seeing your reactions, you’re so descriptive and raw, thank you
LMAO I liked and subscribed for W opinions and you’re hilarious. A&W is amazing!!
I just wanted hug you when I watched you crying 😢 😿 ♥. I loved this album
NOT THE PLUG IN THE BEGINNING.. new song ate tho ❤
Let the light in
A&W is heartbreaking but dancing at the same time
Gracias por no saltarte los interludios, tqm
