    For anyone curious, department stores often put up those temporary walls in 'dying' stores. They were originally built to operate as a higher volume location and once sales slump they don't need all that space for merchandise anymore so they simply wall it off. I've seen many different chains do this.

    Kaufmann's/Macy's would wall off parts of a store when it started to underperform and shrink the size of the sales floor as a result of carrying fewer lines, or if the store stopped selling furniture, they'd wall of the area and reduce the size of the sales floor.

    Some of the best videos are when you two buds team up. You may film the same place, but each of you has your own style and perspective. Honestly these are fun videos because it's two friends doing what they love and respecting the Urbexer code.
    When evil Macy's took off Kaufmanns wonder how much of this store was original Kaufmanns decor and how much was cookie cutter sterile Macys. From the photos looks like the Macy's at my Newport mall and most of the other Macys (Herald Squre is an exception.)
    The fire alarm might have been set off by the ghosts of the founders of Kaufmanns, angry with what Macys did to their great chain (and other great regional chains: Foleys in Texas, Filenes in New england, etc. We already discussed this. May Department store let them be atonomous stores. Maybe that's why Macys is someone on shaky ground.
    Glad you both got to film there. Wondering how much time is left for Century III

    This Macy's closed in 2016, and had a water line break in January, 2018, which is why the space was gutted. Not sure when you were there, but the mall experienced another line break over the comic book store. This got the mall shut down and all interior tenants evicted. The comic book store has moved to the Waterfront, but Dick's and Penneys are still open at the mall.
    What was making all that noise on the first floor? Airvents? 2nd floor had the alarm, but first floor had all the white noise.

  • @stphinkle
    @stphinkle 5 лет назад +4

    Someone should turn off that fire alarm. I suspect that it is not being monitored anymore, or perhaps the phone line or cable line to notify the fire department has been disconnected.

    • @MrTsolar
      @MrTsolar 5 лет назад

      This Macy's is attached to Century III Mall, which was shut down recently due to a sprinkler line break. The mall and Macy's no longer have working sprinkler systems. The J.C. Penney and Dick's Sporting Goods, which are still open at Century III, have their own systems, and I suspect the old Sears still has functioning sprinklers. I doubt the fire department would even respond now unless Penneys or Dick's calls them. Nobody else is at the mall anymore.

    • @MrTsolar
      @MrTsolar 5 лет назад

      @@peterjszerszen Well, the 30-days isn't up yet. They still have two weeks for tenants to leave. Things might change towards the end of this month or later this year when Dick's and Penneys jump or close. But, for now, the lack of a working sprinkler system is why the doors are locked.
      Some part of me still wonders why a revitalization of the mall couldn't be done. Re-tin and coat the roof, new systems, renovated interior, and open as something new. Shouldn't be nearly as much work or cost as tearing down all that concrete and re-building. The structure is still good and would make a wonderful warehouse or assisted-living community. Simon's about to do more work than that to South Hills Village as an update.

    • @LoveClassicMusic0205
      @LoveClassicMusic0205 5 лет назад

      I would have tried if it was me. That thing was annoying and it's not like the FD could even respond to it because most likely the monitoring service is turned off.

    Hey WALLIE B did you know that May Company (Macy's) had a discount chon back into he 70's and 80's called Venture started in 1970 and lasted until April 18 1998. May company said that discount retailing want the way of the future back in 1998. Venture stores were way cooler than Target and Macy's put together. Venture Stores were mainly in Illinois Missouri Kansas Oklahoma and Texas. Here is a little known fact May Company Brought 23 Turn Style Locations that went bankrupt in late 1977 early 1978 brought Turn Style out of Chapter 11 and turned all locations into Venture Stores INC . All buildings had the black and white stipes'.

    Little risky going over the missing escalator steps, great explore! @14:31should of tried to see if that freight elevator still worked or not. Also subbed to Ace’s videos.

    • @ECFE
      @ECFE 3 года назад +1

      That is HIGHLY unlikely. When buildings become abandoned or vacant, it becomes necessary to lower all elevator units to the bottom of their hoistways. They did just that with the freight in Macy's Furniture back in 2009, they did it with the mall passenger elevator, and so on. They very well could have done that with the passenger elevator in this anchor building as well (it's not shown in this video). For this freight, since there's power still being fed into the building, you could probably turn on the power cutoff in the machine room. It's unlikely anything would happen though. The lights would probably turn on but that's about it

      Macy's, or in the mall right near it, had a water line break in January, 2018. Mold prevention is why all the drywall from the floor up 2 feet is gone and the carpet missing. Macy's got flooded really bad, even flooding part of the main mall concourse.
      Nothing in the way of re-modeling has been happening. The only thing that's been added to Century III in the last year was a wall by the former comic book store next to the ramp...you know, right before a sprinkler line broke and closed the mall in February, 2019.
