  • Exploring An Abandoned Sears In PA With Sal, Faded Commerce, & Jack Of Dead Malls. Back in the summer I teamed up with my friends Sal and Anthony for an exploration of an abandoned Sears. My friend, Jack, also made a brief appearance before having to hit the road. It was hot as hell but we still had fun.

Hey there! Amused to see someone sneaking around my old stomping grounds. I was an employee here for the last few years the store was open and helped close it. If you have any questions about the stuff you guys found, I'd be glad to answer them! I'll comment below with what info I can provide through the walkthrough.
    Watching through:
1:21, Christ that alarm is still going, huh?
2:10, some stupid wallpaper for the Lands End clothing section, would have ruined the brand new paint on those pillars taking it down so it never came down.
2:44, closed in December 2014. Merry Christmas everyone, you don't have a job!
3:35, that's not supposed to be like that.
3:55, I'd hope that thing still works. When it caught fire the year before, the whole thing had to be replaced. Fun fact: Putting out that fire flooded the Philip Pelusi in the mall, which is why they closed.
    4:22, fixture room for clothing.
4:26, nope, that's actually the downstairs bathrooms.
5:45, I'm surprised those tiles haven't collapsed from the water seeping in. We had problems with the roof right there starting in like 2012.
6:16, so many people tried to leave via that door, causing the alarm to go off, despite the GIANT RED SIGNS ON EVERY DOOR. It's funny as hell seeing it open again.
6:45, electronics, yep. Setting up the TV wall was a massive pain in the ass every year.
6:57, was the LP office, hence why he had his own aircon.
7:35, was a misc room, we had tables set up and usually used it for potlucks or group training meetings and such. It used to be where H&R Block and other tax companies set up to do yearly taxes. That weird tiny room in the back had two desks and a bunch of old, old, OLD accounting equipment.
8:12, your buddy was right, that was our training room. We had three ancient computers set up on the far end. Those little side offices were for the regional or district manager to use when they came to visit. As you guys found, the server and telecom rooms were back there too.
10:25, the portrait studio actually closed well before the store did. They were an outside company. There were very, very few items still in there when the store closed as we cleaned it out far before that.
11:30, similarly, optical/dental/hair salon were all also third party companies who all abandoned ship well before the store closed proper.
    12:35, that was dental.
13:20, where we kept all the large promotional store signs that either hung from the ceiling or were attached to fixtures.
14:09, housewares backroom, it was a maze of tall shelving with bedding, small appliances, ect.
15:01, all our backstock was actually upstairs, so everything either came up the conveyer belt or the giant backroom elevator.
15:30, the main store office, where we picked up and stored our RMUs, HR was set up, made and printed the sales signs, and where customer pickup was on the other side of that indoor glass window.
16:05, nope, manager's office. Sears sent us a big corporate manager who put tons of propaganda up, hence all the signs on the walls. He made us chant "to serve, delight, and engage our members as they shop their way!" at the beginning of every morning meeting. HR was the barren office across the hall.
    16:30, customer pickup.
18:00, used to be the lawn and garden drop off for repairs, eventually was just another crammed storage room. Appliance showroom was upstairs, basically the entire middle area next to Electronics.
19:08, Ron *was* awesome, and so was Dave. Dave was one of the best managers I'd ever worked under. His leaving of the company is what got us the corporate Kool-aid guy.
19:52, Sears Auto is also not actually Sears proper. Our auto center was fucking massive.
    Thanks for uploading!

@roguea I have a question! How long did you work there? How long has that alarm gone and how did it start?

    • @remarus
      @remarus 9 месяцев назад +3

@@acessqble Oh, almost five years. And that was the security alarm. It was annoying and would randomly trip in the middle of the night, or not accept your closing/opening codes, or all kinds of nonsense. I assume when they left the store they just ended their subscription for it and didn't actually turn off the alarm itself.
I remember driving by there about a year after the store closed on a cool winter night, and I could hear the outside bell tied to that thing going off still.

Better. I was crying yesterday because i ordered the last two sears catalogs every made. It reminds me of my grandmother who passed away and my grandfather is not doing well. My brother and I would always be so excited to go to sears and see our grandmother worked at the front of the store . She would always greet us with the sweetest hug when we entered the store or surprised her in the breakroom. Its crazy how a over 100 year old company rhat sold watches clothes . even cars and houses by the end of this year will just be gone. I associate Sears with lots of hugs and smiles and laughter. That's one of the main reasons why my baby's middle name is Sears not only to remember the great company but the great memories I feel like when I hold my baby I'm remembering a piece of my grandparents. I brought a display case for the two catalogs but I will be receiving in the mail so I can always protect and cherish the memories. When I'm holding little baby Nathan Sears against my chest and hugging him tight when I'm having a bad day it will feel like I'm holding a piece of you with me your spirit will never leave my memory and you will never leave me. I just want to tell you my grandparents I love them I miss them so much and I will literally always hold on to that memory our Sears and all the other fun times we had together literally right against my heart.

These type where you get in is eerie. At one time people were shopping in this store and now it's abandoned. It Sucks to see how bad things are getting in the retail sector. A shrinking middle class and shrinking wages considering inflation. Lack of investment in customer service at a lot of stores. Thing have really gone down. Thanks for the video. This should be a lesson for the next generation of people.

I know, I worked at one that closed last year (quit before it closed for numerous reasons) and was demolished too become new wing of mall. The former Auto Center (seperate building, conveyor seen was used by auto center too get tires upstairs on receiving days) was knocked down in a day! Fast being decent sized building! I go by everynight on way home from work, being replaced by a R.E.I.

I just completed my second interview at a Sears in Lansing Michigan and it looks like I have the job and should know by next week. The store I'd be working at is quite an old store and its ridiculously big so I'm looking forward to getting to know the building and finding any cool relics from years ago hidden from the sales floor because they always exist. This particular store I'd be working has its own water tower with the Sears logo on it behind the store and is still a thriving anchor store for that shopping plaza. This store I'd be working for is a location I emailed Sears about last fall and suggested they look into utilizing some of the immense space for a small Kmart inside a Sears like they did out in the store in NY to replace the Kmart stores they closed in the area, they replied and said it was an excellent idea. I'd literally die if they decided to try it out after I got hired in. I'm allowed to dream and I think I laid out some good facts that would support the Kmart idea, that store would be a money maker right there almost on campus and next to high rise apartments. Got my foot in the door, next step is to befriend Eddie. Goals! ;-)

(Considering that you’ve been to another sears in my state) There is actually one in the Lehigh valley (Whitehall, PA) that I live near, that has been sitting abandoned for almost two years. Im pretty sure it’s still untouched from when it last closed, not even to mention that I myself have a recording of this location when it was still open to the public. It is still technically near two other active malls, so be wary if you do plan on visiting this location.

Your alarms are going off for years, ceiling is damp & moldy. What you expected for this shop left empty & no one was been for years.

I just wanted to say you have great videoes and I enjoy watching I grew up in Minnesota going to the Mall of America and the Eden Prairie Center mall I was wondering if you have gone to any malls in Minnesota or have wanted to go to the Mall of America or any other malls in Minnesota?
One of the reasons why I'm asking is because my earliest memories of Sears was when I was a toddler my grandmother worked at Sears in the Eden Prairie Center mall I wonder if it's still there I wish I could go back to my childhood mall to see what is still there and what is not also when I was a child going to the Eden Prairie Center Mall I remember there was a super Target attached which is really nice all I really remember of my childhood in terms of businesses that now dying is Sears and Blockbuster I never remember Toys R Us the only stores I remember as a child was Walmart and Target which obviously is still around but the old fashioned Walmart was pretty cool
