This song reminds me of mental illnesses. Specifically like Bipolar Disorder, and Borderline Personality Disorder.
Especially when she says " cuz I got bright lights in my mind" and "the colors won't fade til mornjng, and the lovers won't leave til morning". The bright lights/colors are like the manic states you can feel during episodes. And they eventually do fade away, and people leave when they realize that stuff doesn't last. In that moment, you give your everything to that manic state. Swimming in the dark? Psh, not dangerous at all when you're manic. "Chasing stars" reminds me of the time i busted glow sticks, and just FLUNG the juices all over myself, and the skate park i was at at night with my friends. And i kept yelling "look! Im a star! Im multiple stars! Im like a galaxy in the whole of the universe! Lets all be galaxies!" And was just grinning, and sliding around the place on my ass. XD sounds fun and adventurous but in reality its just mania...
