everybody is saying how he should have played slower, but if you listen to debussy’s recording, it is played quite upbeat and faster like so. but, debussy played it quickly because the recording tape didnt have much space. but still, the man playing is quite egotistical bruh..
this is true, but personally i prefer this peice played more pesante and heavy. but that’s all about artistic interpretation and how you as a musician or listener want to experience this piece
It’s the 12am piano bar version, rather than the Carnegie version, but he knows the piece well and is playing it good for free. I’ve been learning it for a few weeks.
The guy is a maestro the way he holds his audience in the palm of his hand 👋 Some of the audience realise they are experiencing a special emotional experience 💕🙏 Those of us watching on RUclips can only listen in awe and envy of those present in NYC 🎶🎹🎶
He said in an interview he asks people if they want to sit or lie down under the piano because he said it sounds really good. Many piano timers allow clients to do that as it allows for them to hear the piano more clearly and let the sound surround them.
"Put Washington Square Park’s “Piano Guy” on the City Payroll Huggins is frustrated that people who do nothing useful for society are rewarded with luxury homes. “A lot of these penthouse apartments, I’ve visited a few of them on occasion,” he muses. “Very few of those people worked for these places. They either inherited them or they made a silly computer app that makes fart sounds, and people find that entertaining, so they made half a billion dollars. I wish that these resources, these spaces, could be given to people, like me, who are trying to benefit the whole society.” He laughs. “I’m awesome! I will make great stuff that will benefit everyone.” Indeed, Huggins notes, many people living in luxury got there through actively causing harm to society. In contrast, the system punishes people like him who “want to return vibrancy here, make it even better and more alive, more loving and more exciting, more like what people think of as New York.” In the 1940s, when unions, communists, and socialists had more power in New York City, ballet, opera, and classical music performances at the City Center were subsidized, allowing New Yorkers to enjoy such entertainments for as little as $1 per ticket. Today, New York’s cultural institutions have been thoroughly privatized, and tickets are expensive. Huggins is trying to bring culture back to the people and to survive while doing so. The least the city could do is provide shelter for him and his instrument." jacobin.com/2023/05/piano-guy-washington-square-park-new-york-city-payroll-homelessness
Can't believe the negativity in the comments here. Yeah sure the piece can be played better, but common it's still nice and the guy is providing beautiful experiences to random people.
Fr it kinda ruins the flow and the moment of the music. Especially debussy where it has that dreamy feel to it. Also he played it kinda fast where you regularly supposed to play it nice and slow so very one can hear it and have a good time
I felt uncomfortable for him LOL 1) all those people around him, second half was destroyed by his need for speed, and the dreaminess of the piece was exchanged for speedy playing to amaze busy passerby. Those who really enjoy the art would stop and listen if possible. No need to play so fast. Amazing pianist regardless, we can all tell.
@@ИванИванов-я9ы8н I'm not joking at all. What I do know is there's alot of stubborn piano people that just love to complain about others they consider less talented, serious or gifted as themselves. This guy has made lot's of people feel amazing and even brought them to tears of happiness. What's not to like about that?
Ok but honesty someone actually is being honest like seriously this is an embarrassing joke or thing like I know it ain’t a joke but he needs more practice or think better while he’s performing.
Sounded like he played the short cut version. He missed a few chords. Rushed it. Didn’t do the piece any justice. If you’re going to play a classical piece, please play it properly.
Nice to see you put your own twang to the song but your playing it far far far far to fast, it’s not a race it’s a marathon. Your killing the song playing it like that, no emotion or felling in the song. It’s like a robot mixing between the correct speed and twice as fast. This was a let down, leave it to Debussy

Yeah also not to mention street performers usually increase the tempo cause people got places to go sometimes.
appreciate this a lot cause i didn't check out the original till i had read this remark.
But still it’s cringe🥴

He does come off a bit egotistical lol. Down to how he's chewing his gum💀

How are you with this gorgeous piece now?

Damn this guy loves himself hahaha
Why would he interrupt himself playing😂😂
I LIKE THE STICKER ON THE PIANO 1:42
I JUST SAW THAT LMAO
Who would qualify as a fascist?
Great performance ☺️
quite weird to see someone below the piano X"D but oof cant lie that i dont want to be in that position as well

Wish he took a little more time in his peices. But hey ther still nice 👌
I thought it was beautiful and touching. Nothing wrong with the speed
Not supposed to be a fast piece, supposed to have a nice smooth tempo, especially the best part
Sometimes street performers play peices quicker because people got places to go sometimes and don’t have time to watch a 5 minute long song.
Napoleon had a this 👆guy complex.
So good. Thank you.

nice
when you play Debussy "claire de Lune" you have to calm down first...
You hacked the most beautiful song ever written.
Did he just say i know you guys are enjoying it down there because i’m playing it well. Who tf does this guy think he is?! 😅
this video is why RUclips shouldn't cancel the dislike button
Your comment is a better reason.
I don’t care how fast you play it I just hate how you keep stoping and bragging just play the damn piece stopping ruins the experience

Am i the only one thinking why are there people sleeping underneath the piano?
Really needs to be slowed down sorry
I agree
Why he going so fast 🤷♂️

Never interrupt in the middle of a piece and the fact that he did it himself 🤦♂️

Disregard the 1), everything was meant as one bullet
He seems tense. He ruined one of my favourite piano pieces.

Totally agree with you
This guy thinks he can play piano like a pro but in reality he’s just showing off that he thinks he’s a pro.
If he was pro he would hear the horrible sound and what he does. Completely got rid of melodiousness of claire de lune
He plays fine and gives people beautiful experiences, what's not to like?

Ugh this is an embarrassment to pianists. Music is meant to be shared, not shown off. You should rethink your motivation for playing.

Utterly offensive.
I hope he gets funded by the city. What a loss if he's ignored and plunges into further poverty.
Seems pretty egotistical. Playing it way too fast, messed up on way too many parts.

nope
Yes you are. The word is cringy is ridiculous and WAY over played.

bad, fast and awkward. even the weirdos with their kids underneath the piano. cringe.
