Yes, I used the Stihl OEM spray cans, Orange and Grey. The old paint on the engine cover was in decent shape, I just sanded and sprayed a couple coats on it. The Air filter cover had to be taken down to bare metal, Then I hammered out a couple dents. It took about 10 coats to get the Finished look. Sanding between coats was a must. All the grey pieces got an extra, top coat of grey from the same can, just to make sure they all blended together. I also replaced ALL screws/nuts/bolts with new.
Back when Stihl was Stihl. The old 0 series saws like the Farm Boss 045. That saw sounds poor. It should be jumping out of your hands. Nice rebuild! Are those the original bucking teeth?
Thanks. Yeah, I have 3 other 090s that I canned parts from, and I did not have a single starter cover that was good looking enough to refurbish and put on this saw. So I improvised. :-) I thought the customized '090' label on the '070' starter came out pretty good. Since this video, I got the 42" ES bar and .404 full chisel chain installed. Now its too pretty to cut wood! I think I'll part together another 'ugly' 090 as my big work saw.
You obviously know nothing about saws you don't rebuild a saw and then go rev It Wide Open you got to run it through heat cycles for it to properly break in

Carefull, without the 'load' of a bar+chain the saw might overrev if you gun it, destroying the crankcase. Very nice rebuild.
***** Thanks! Yep, even without the bar&chain, I was amazed at how well the Governor worked at keeping the revs down below 8000rpm.
Not a thing with these old saws, a governor kicks in and keeps the rpm down.

just hold it wide open. the ring will seat just fine without reving it like that

Is that an actual REAL German-made Stihl 090? Not some cheap ass, BS, Chinese clone?
This has a different sprocket setup than other 090's I've seen online. Usually, the removable cover is on the inside. Was this a newer style model?
