Such a great independent band, caught at a special time in their evolution. This is golden. (It scared me the first time I heard it; haunted me for days.) Halcyon Digest is something I first heard at age 57, after I thought I had heard everything; wrong! I've been a huge fan ever since, and have never been disappointed.
Because I'm Japanese, I can't hear these lyrics. But I can understand beautiful and hurts these songs. And tears flow quietly. and others. That's the great thing about their music.
Almost a decade since this song released now. Can you remember the time in your life you found this song? When hipster music reigned supreme, our president was black, and the Kardashians still celebrated Fathers Day. Simpler times, people.
Dude. Its really cool. So awesome sounding. I can't believe its live. They are so goddamn good. Only thing that would make this better is HD. Is there an HD version anywhere I can watch?
Marco Decato It looks like it was stored at www.spinner.com/interface/deerhunter but that got moved to aolradio.slacker.com and I can't find the video :(
I'm late to the party with this band but my god i've been completely dissociated for the past week unable to feel alive and this has brought me crashing back into myself. Life and music is beautiful beautiful pain
I remember finding this video while riding the bus home in high school and it blowing my fucking mind. Literally like 8 years later and it’s still sick
This live version of Helicopter is like something you would hear during your moment of transition - as the last firing of your brain's electricity hears the doctor ask "time of death?" Bradford Cox starts the last chorus of "Now they are through with me".
This is one of those songs that makes me forget all of my problems, that makes me feel happy to be alive.. appreciating great music with other nostalgic but cool people who’ve been through a lot❤️
Holy crap, after watching this video after how many times. but tonight, i've appreciated how good this live performance is. I bet there's a lot of timing and messing with pedals which take a lot of timing/skill (I assume) and I wonder if this song always turns out this good? Maybe this performance might just be a bit of magic, It definitely feels kinda magical to me.
Deerhunter are literally this talented. I saw them at pitchfork 2011 (yes, THAT Nothing Ever Happened performance... at 16). The craziest part is that they can do it again.
I was so surprised when I first found out everything was being played on guitar for this song, they really came up with some creative combinations of effects
I've went through one of the most difficult times of my life along the last year. I can't tell HOW MUCH this has lifted me up and made me saw different angles of life. This is art at its finest level. They can establish a dialogue between their music and their fans all around the world. Thanks for that, guys.
Deerhunter fans need to check out the solo album by guitarist Lockett Pundt under the name Lotus Plaza from 2012 called 'Spooky Action At A Close Distance.' Seriously underrated!
+Ben Begas Wow, someone who is nice on a RUclips video! I assume you're already hip to Atlas Sound? Also, Person Pitch is my favorite album of all time, digging your profile pic.
+Greg Lytle know everything from Bradford Cox... never knew the other bandmates did anything else. - Seeing Deerhuter Live @ 9:30 club in DC in DEC, and the opening act is none other than Atlas sound... are you shitting me! im excited.
this is why deerhunter is one of the best bands of this generation. I have never seen another band accomplish what these guys can do with sound. True artist of music.
i love the way this band makes me feel.. our true nature is spirit, not body That we are eternal beings and that we are all one consciousness experiencing itself subjectively, there is no such thing as death, life is only a dream, and we are the imagination of ourselves. ''bill hicks''
These guys have so much to say with just two songs its incredible, so strongs, everythings make sens and have his place during these 18m of music. (Sorry for my shity english hum..)
Ahh all those magical foot levers! Mr Cox is a true craftsman of sound! They sound like sonic water drops of nostalgia dripping onto my crown only to evaporate into a void of derealization. I need those foot levers!!!
I’m an older punk missing Jay Reatard, but knew he was our Iggy Pop when I saw that show at Fallout Records. Before this band even existed, but they would cover him and he would do the same and there’s nothing pretentious about either’s interpretation, but they are masterful all the same!
In Helicopter, frontman Bradford Cox tries to envision and communicate the thoughts of a young Russian named Dimitry Marakov during his last few days. I read his story and it’s shockingly sad and tragic. This kind of dealings are still happening in Russia today.
the high pitch sound is actually from the eventide pitchfactor, he just used a quick loop so the high pitch harmonic from the eventide loops over itself. i have both of these pedals. i figured out how to do it haha

James Ross Keep moving in that way.
James Ross I’m 46, late to the party and absorbing every bit of this.
Beautiful James Ross, I am 53 going on 21 since note one. R.I.P Josh x
James Ross same i dint think i will ever get disappointed with deerhunter
Just found them at 54, very unusual yet they have an awesomeness about them, unique even.
Because I'm Japanese, I can't hear these lyrics.
But I can understand beautiful and hurts these songs.

20 to 30 years from now we will be old dudes saying "they don't make music like this anymore".
We will be that old dudes

Its already come to fruition ....

8 short years down, 22 shorter ones to come.
Halcyon digest is definitely a contemporary classic
Alex DeLarge totally. On par with ok computer but it doesn't get the coverage.
Name Change i wouldnt go that far, but it is definitely one of the albums of the decade
Why not? I certainly listen more to Halcyon Digest then Ok Computer nowadays. Ok Computer is left behind in the 90's for me.
It is a relentlessly gorgeous album
He would have laughed is like the textbook answer to why deerhunter is one of the greatest bands ever
deerhunter saved my life
same
listening to this music makes me believe for the first time that this comment is actually true
Same. Got me through one of the loneliest times in my life.
This is literally one of the greatest performances ive ever heard
These are the 2 most beautiful chords I've ever heard.
Right in the Sunday night feels
I can't tell you how many times I have watched this. Best live performance ever.
same man just float away at that beginning part every time haha
Dude. Its really cool. So awesome sounding. I can't believe its live. They are so goddamn good.

Marco Decato I can't find anything on google... I wonder where poster got his file
Marco Decato It looks like it was stored at www.spinner.com/interface/deerhunter but that got moved to aolradio.slacker.com and I can't find the video :(
Michael Kochell I hope this never gets removed then.
Helicopter live is straight-up beautiful
I'm late to the party with this band but my god i've been completely dissociated for the past week unable to feel alive and this has brought me crashing back into myself. Life and music is beautiful beautiful pain
One of the most beautiful performances ever captured. Also RIP Josh Fauver
I remember finding this video while riding the bus home in high school and it blowing my fucking mind. Literally like 8 years later and it’s still sick
Where did my friends go? Something very relatable as a twenty something
moving stuff bradford
Justin Roden graduated high school 4 years ago - speak to about 3 people from high school and only see them once every 2 months on average
the innocence of youth, and the grim path that follows, the bastards
twenty something... haley reference? I do ask myself the same question though and im still only in my early 20s...
Ah shut the hell…shut your mouth
This is about a dead friend so there is another level
My mind just melted into melancholic bliss. What a performance, their sound is crystal.
i burst into tears.
I love you, Bradford, and I hope you live forever.
I love that he cuts it off at the end like the album version. it's one of my favorite album closings ever
Makes you realize how lost in the song you were for sure
This live version of Helicopter is like something you would hear during your moment of transition - as the last firing of your brain's electricity hears the doctor ask "time of death?" Bradford Cox starts the last chorus of "Now they are through with me".

This was a beautiful and understated comment.
@@torink8229 agreed so so much. Beautiful comment

OMG these people are truly talented.
There's no other band like them... Every time I listen to them, they take me away... a total escape
2 songs = 1 mind melted

i see this perfomance in LA a few days ago, i never meet this band before, is fucking awsomee!!!!!

R.i.p. my friend.. (Jay)
Deerhunter are my favourite band of all time, they changed my life!
Gave me goosebumps fucking amazing.
this performance is fucking incredible.
rest in peace, Jay
This is one of the all time great performances. Hooley dooley
Sounds just like the original and it's LIVE! These guys are talented
saw them for the first time on a pier in nyc on two hits of acid at sunset, changed my life
Talented group!!!! Depressing lyrics though...
yesss but they are filled with stories check out t.h.m his story is super sad
Deerhunter fans need to check out the solo album by guitarist Lockett Pundt under the name Lotus Plaza from 2012 called 'Spooky Action At A Close Distance.' Seriously underrated!

Dude, I'm jealous. I think the best opening act/main combo I ever got to see was Stephen Malkmus opening for Radiohead wayyy back in 2003.
My bong and I can live in this window of youtube.
I feel the same way!
Marco Decato We are two equal minds :)
Kelly Ayb U READ MY MIND
Leonardo Mesquita I'm good at reading minds :)
Brian P I am a very boring person, I love being boring. Is this what I said or I thought? :)
How is this even live? Damn amazing!
+Geoff Kilian Thanks man. Hope I'll met someone that share the same taste as ours in real life.
+Lando Big RH nerd passing thru :)
righttttt
@@lando2051 You don't know a single person that likes Radiohead?
Radiohead, Grizzly Bear, Deerhunter, Beach House, Fleet Foxes, Father John Misty, and quite a hell more 👍👍👍
This song is nostalgia. This song makes me cry.
Intro is so good
this is why deerhunter is one of the best bands of this generation. I have never seen another band accomplish what these guys can do with sound. True artist of music.
just heavenly, simply divine!
This performance is beyond this existence
He Would Have Laughed hits different these days

That we are eternal beings and that we are all one consciousness experiencing itself subjectively, there is no such thing as death, life is only a dream, and we are the imagination of ourselves. ''bill hicks''
I always listen to this at least 25 times a year...
Or way more.
got me hypnotized! i love it when great musicians make me feel this way :)
truly amazing intro, love it.

So much talent and the lyrics are depressing asf I love it
loved it I'm blown away I gotta see these guys in concert
The two best songs on Halcyon Digest !
What about Desire Lines? Basement Scene? I think I can't point my fav lol
Maybe someday when I've grown out my bowl cut and got myself a nice Christmas sweater I'll have the ability to play music like this.
Epic in every sense of the word
the lyrics are breathtaking!!!!!
Yes!! So amazing!
so epic..this band is the best
My god, I can die happy now, so beautiful
I'm pretty sure at least half of the 214,000 views are me.
then the third half must be me
Deerhunter is so AMAZING! they have got through some tough times.....Hope they make another album soon:)
One of the best artists of this or any era.
Deerhunter's classic lineup was the best RIP Josh
dang I miss concerts
They deserved to be way bigger than they were
Helicopter is unlike any song I've ever heard
what a great performance , master of the loop pedal
Just plain lovely, that's what this is....
hell of a performance, truly memorable and significant
Bradford Cox is God.
I mean this as a very positive comment: Deerhunter are the BoC of indie rock.

Had to pause at 40 seconds to say this is already awesome.
Look up 'bliss' in any dictionary and you will find a url sending you here

Always love their live, kinda like a magic trip full of excitement
This.is.unbelievable. Absolutely perfect
I favorited this before it even finished. Mr. Cox you are genius!

Goddammit, this is so flawless, what the fuck?! One of the best bands of the century? Hahahaha YES

Happy ten year anniversary to these bangers
Nobody can make a "grown ass man" break down like Bradford and the boys.
they don’t make music like this anymore
An acoustic guitar with so many effects has never sounded so good before.
