The low-cost motels have become the new family public housing buildings, especially in southern states.
True. It's a nasty scene. The parents hanging out smoking in the parking lots, kids running around bored with nothing to do...Good luck trying to get a good nights sleep
It's true in any state but just harder for a motel like this to stay in business in big cities.
So true, I witness low-income ppl and families living long-term in these motels and extended stay facilities almost everywhere in the (Atlanta) metro area. With all the drugs/crime and solicitation that it attracts you'd think most people wouldn't want their families anywhere near it.
@@kendallevans4079 dude f your sleep blame your f ing goverment
@TruthHurts404 They probably don't want to be there but unfortunately it's the best they can do with what little money they have. Several years ago I was renting an old house in the downtown area two blocks away from a homeless shelter. Day and night there was a steady stream of homeless and mentally ill people roaming the streets. Drug sales and use along with prostitution was everywhere in the neighborhood. The police knew me well because I was never afraid to call them every time I saw illegal activity. Eventually the police cleaned up the area and I moved to a much safer neighborhood.
Unfortunately once someone who starts living in these run down motels its almost impossible to get out because most of your income is going to pay for the stay and you cannot save to move somewhere else. Its a vicious cycle.
Then u go to Craigs list and rent a ROOM inside of a house. That's what I did. People will always find excuses instead of solutions. I was homeless, looked on craigslist and found a room to rent in a nice house out in Los Angeles for $650.00 . The reality is that people are complacent.
@Lemons Limes My first room in L.A was $650.00, this was in 2014. I moved to a nicer area (another room) and now pay $700. I have a front yard, back yard, washer/dryer unit in the home and great land lords. Renting a room is very much a permanent solution for myself as well as for several other people I know. If your having bad experiences everywhere that you go, perhaps you need to evaluate yourself.
If someone only has $650 to live on, they can supplement their income by donating plasma (which i do), utilizing government assistance, signing up at people ready or a temp agency and hopefully land a job. It's easier to make excuses than it is to find solutions. I'm speaking from personal experience as a former homeless person.
Lastly, renting a room and staying below my means allows me to have income left over so that I don't end up homeless again.
@Lemons Limes I'd rather be homeless than rent a room from a stranger on craigslist. You don't know what skeletons people have in their closet. Last thing I'd want is someone stealing or worse like some peeper or come home to dude wearing women's lingerie and watching porn or something weirdos do.
Ok, you analysed the situation pretty ok but I would like to understand what do you think about they shutting the motel down.
I find it very weird that the journalists never mentioned what alternatives were being proposed to those living there.
There is always a solution, believe me. If you rent from a run down hotel like that, then you can always start to video the junk going on with just a cellphone and build a subscribers count on RUclips for more money to eventually leave. People like drama. Stop being victims to society. My dad lived in one for a short periods of time and he went back to apartment and finally his own place he owned before he died. I lived in the worst trailer park you ever seen and made it out. The lot rent was low, but I didn't never have money until the day I decided to make that change and went and found a good paying job and made the difference and change in my life. You are not a victim all the time and you will always be one as long as you think like one. The world doesn't give a shit about you, it just exists around you
I bet that place glows from space under a black light

The problem is that the hotel could call a technicality if they don't have a big case. They could say they don't know anything about it and that this is the first time they seen it and that they are not responsible. It would create enough deniability because they only have a single incident with a single evidence and no way to say it is an on going problem. If they let it go on long enough the police can create undeniable evidence that it's a on going thing that they know and encourage.

Don't give up! Yes, those hotels keep you in a hole but at that point, don't know where you work or anything but are campsites available? Like legit camp sites at parks. Pay the small daily fee if any and start from there saving hundreds a week. No one.wants to for safety reasons but, can you find a safe place to stay in your car if you have one? These ideas are impractical for most but maybe it will be what you need to get out of that moneypit. Also, some people rent rooms too that's weekly or monthly and more affordable if your situation allows.

it is a national crisis. I work all over the place and I stay in lots of hotels, great ones and sometimes not so great ones depending on the state and city. You see that just about everywhere, even Christmas decorations and trees through the windows. Finding places that people can be allowed to rent is apparently a pain. It is clearly not just a matter of being able to pay at this point because in most of these hotels people pay about $400 per week, thats an easy luxury apartment or 2-3 bedroom house in some places, if they can pay that monthly without skipping a beat they could do that in a house with a mortgage.
The only place where you don't see it or where I have not seen it would be Hawaii because the islands are very touristy and $400 is the cost for a day or two. Then again that's why when you account for the warmer weather year round you see why people who have no place just stay in the streets like they do in the continental US.
