Nice one, thank you. I've just acquired a Grand Tundra, the ESC of which has this feature. Needless to say the online instructions did not mention how to set up, so thanks for your well explained video. Regards from the UK.
Thanks Tim. I had no idea models could do this. I always marvel at the Air Force F4 Phantom. It has bleed air slats on the leading edge, allowing for a slower stall speed. Genius. Maybe we’ll see that on jet models one day.
Thanks Tim. I like your approach to showing how to reverse thrust.. My Habu 70mm esc has the extra lead you show. My radio is a DX6 like yours. I have tried over and over to set it up with no success. I have paused the video so I could follow you step by step, still no success. Is there possibly another step needed? Thanks, Don Pardue, Chattanooga TN
Don: I watched my video again. The transmitter setup should be fairly clear as you have a DX6. The only thing I can think of is to be sure the extra lead is pugged into one of the numbered channels on the receiver (not the BATT port, as there is no signal). And ensure the number of the channel (on the receiver) is what you program on the DX6. Maybe sleep on it, try again in the morning! Tim
I’m in a similar boat I’m using a DX6i with a Habu 50 mm and I’m trying to go to the aux flap channel, having some issues communicating. These habus are tight to work in! We will figure it out gentlemen
You could also just use a bidirectional esc meant for cars and boats with not a single extra wire or tx set up. Then your throttle mid point will be neutral and above 50% is positive thrust while below 50% is reverse thrust. Its a little tough get used to zero throttle being in the middle though. With that said, its not really easier or gonna save much set up time, i just wanted to let you know it was an option bcus options equal opportunities.
I've got my reverse thrust setup on my F-22, but my question is should the reverse thrust work if your throttle is all the way down? Because the only way I can get reverse thrust is if I move the throttle up and then hit the switch for reverse thrust.
Thanks Tim for the lesson, it's very interessing ! Do you think is it possible to configure a reverse with Spektrum Smart Avian 60A ESC and a frsky receiver? sorry i don't speak english very well...
Is there a way to have channel 4 or 3 do this instead of 5 I already have a bilge pump on 5 and I need that for my boat and on 6 I have differential thrust cause no rudder
Sure. Just plug the throttle reverse into the top (signal) plug of the receiver, and ensure that the channel is assigned, in the transmitter, to a switch for the reverse function.
Hi Tim. I'm using a DX6 with programmer V2 and Avian ESC, and have followed through with you but with no result. However I've noticed that when I press channel assign, I get the channel input config page first, followed then by RX port assignments (i.e the wrong way around to your description). I continue, flipping between these two trying to assign to in my case switch H, however still with no reverse thrust. Any help greatly appreciated
Hello Tim, I'm having the same problem. I have the DX8 { updated } and an Avian Smart ESC with the V2 programmer. I went through all the setting and set up reverse on the ESC. I too want to use the H switch for Aux 3 where my ESC single wire is installed. The switch works by looking at the monitor but i still can't get reverse motor rotation. Any suggestions? Thank you Clay
I just got it to work for my J-10 review. Ensure: 1. The single wire reverse thrust cable from the ESC is plugged into the top (signal) wire of the receiver 2. Do not use (usually) receiver channels 1, 2, 3 or 4 as these are assigned to control functions (aileron, elevator, rudder). 3. If using reverse cable in receiver port 5 or 6, ensure that is set up correctly in the channel assign section of your transmitter. In other works, receiver port 5 is correctly assigned to, say, switch D on your transmitter.
@@TimMcKay56 I just figured out why it didn't work. My ESC had reverse set it OFF in the factory settings. So I got it. Thank you! Now I need to learn how to use it to slow down after landing!
Thanks, Tim. My Eflite A10's ESCs have reverse thrust capability, but, I was not aware I could program my Gen II DX7 to enable it.
Ted: A fun capability to have! Tim
The way you teaching this lesson is very clearly and easy to understand 🎉
Glad you think so! Tim
Thanks to this video I was able to set up my Freewing Avantic thrust reverse 😊
Glad to hear! Tim

Hi Tim,
Have you tried to use the panic/bind button on a Spektrum radio for reverse thrust ease of use on landing?
Regards
I have not, will check it out. Tim

Apologies, I am not sure why your setup is working as you describe. Tim
Hey Tim have you done a video on the truss and Faa cards for flying in a club frias.i have my ama no.but did not know of the other two required
Here is a video on the TRUST test: ruclips.net/video/jRgs7Ax1OcU/видео.html Tim

@@TimMcKay56 it's possible with a programing box.
Does it still operate with the throttle stick , after hitting the switch I select for thrust reverse?
Yes. 😊
@@TimMcKay56 thank you. I'm glad I found your channel. Lots of excellent information.
Thanks!

What about if I have two escs how do I make it so that they only use up one port for reverse thrust
@ Not sure about that. 😳

No problem
Hi! the same for DX8e radio?
Not sure. Try www.RCGroups.com
Does anyone do a balsa building tutorial?
Yup . . . build the Pronto here: ruclips.net/video/JyzHoJhU7Ms/видео.html Tim

Anyone not have this work? I've been trying for hours. It's looks super simple but it doesn't work.
I just got it to work for my J-10 review.
