The 5751 is the only spring clutch they used the threaded rod and nuts. With the start of the 5752 they used the spring on the clutch engagement rod. The spring lock clutch will hold up to 2.5 hp as long as the pulley and discs are not glazed. If they are clean them with brake kleen and a wire brush.

Good info, I have some with that sytle rod on the clutch and others with the spring on the clutch rod. The one I am using has the spring lock clutch. It well dig up tar with the chains on pushing snow. No slip problems. Sadly I may end up selling all my DB stuff. Life gets in the way sometimes. I enjoy your videos, keep them coming.

Thanks HB, Sorry to hear you may be parting with your DBs. I certainly understand what you mean about life getting in the way. I retired a year and a half a go and still work 3 days a week to keep a little money in the bank. I'm still trying to figure out if my DBs are a hobby or addiction!!! Please keep in touch buddy, you're good company!!!

Hey Travis, the clutch worked well. The 3.5 hp predator motor was too week to pull the plow through centipede grass. I went to Harbor freight this a.m. and bought a 6.5 motor but I have to get 3/4 hub pulleys for it tomorrow. I hope to have it up and running this week. I may get a plow for my Farmall tomorrow also......just in case!

I just subscribed because I really think these old DB tractors are quite unique. Now my curiosity is piqued to find out how this clutch is going to work out. However, I see you only put out 1 video a month. Going to keep us in suspense.

Hey Christina, believe me I'd like to put out a video each week. The truth is I have bad arthritis that limits what I can do. The curse for us old farts!! But I will get busy soon restoring my cutter bar and dedicate it to you!! Thanks so much for your message. Please comment any time and check out all the David Bradley videos that others have posted. They're all great guys..... And we'd be tickled to have a female posting videos hint, hint!!!!

There are 2 type clutches. The first was a spring holding the plates tight against 2 pads attached to the drive pulley. The ball lock uses ball bearings that spin into place due to centrifugal force and lock the clutch plates and drive pulley. The spring has a gradual engagement but the ball lock has on/off and will jerk harder. Hope this helps some.

On DBs that are not used in a long time, the clutch plates and pads get stuck together. I used a little WD40 and sprayed it around the clutch plate and pad and started prying the plate loose with a little force at a time. This is with the drive handle in the off position.
