Ever since I made my girlfriend play through Pokémon FireRed we've gotten requests to attempt a Soul Link together on this channel. For the uninitiated, a Soul Link is a cooperative two player Nuzlocke where you and your partner's Pokémon are linked together. If one Pokémon faints, then whatever it's linked with is gone as well. Since Soul Links are usually randomized, I wanted to wait until my girlfriend knew what more of the Pokémon were before attempting something like this. So with her most recent completion of Pokemon Emerald I decided she was finally ready to take on the challenge. This video is the result of our Soul Link adventure.

• The next different gimmick you can have her attempt other than just progressing nuzlocking generations is a Pokemon Infinite Fusion run
I know this isn't a well known homebrew rule since it's still fairly new, but a lot of soul links recently have started using a rule that any Normal/Flying type Pokémon (like Swablu and Swellow) would count as Flying encounters since, before gen 5 and that's only including Tornadus, there are 0 primary flying type Pokémon. Just a thought to consider if you ever do another Soul Link. It may make some of those encounters a little more desirable.
The moment Tyranitar entered the screen, with The opened way in full swing, i nearly jumped because of the epicness! Really well done!
That moment was easily the highlight of the playthrough for us! :D

23:38 When you randomize the TM’s theres a slidder that determines the power of moves that the TMs are more likely to be. i always set it to around 70-80% that way you still get the occasional garbage TM but also have the chance to get Flamethrower type attacks as well
The moment that dude said "You might be able to get away with a psybeam" my heart dropped. Swalot is a tank. Really unfortunate loss.
And kadabra has weak defenses so you need to one shot anything he’s facing off with.

And this is why if I'm doing a "randomized soullink", I'm not using the 1 typing per team. As long as you caught it, it's viable. Just still has to be linked to the other pokemon.😂
Yeah that rule is super annoying when playing, I think the only similar rule I would personally use is that the pair of Pokémon cannot match their primary typing.
Oof, those remaining teams to face Blue. While they point out one team is weak to fire, the other team carries a common weakness in ground.
It's amazing they walked out with only one Pokemon targeting a full team's weakness.

Thing is, it could have been 100x worse.
If it was Notgirl's ace, it would have been level 63...meaning it actually would have been at the *exact* level for Fire Blast. The Gen III learnset saved them but luck was very much giving Nick a break for the losses he accrued by no fault of his own in the Elite Four.

For future reference there’s a way to randomize pokemon and keep at a relatively similar power level to the ones you would normally encounter and you can also set it so that trade evolutions evolve at a set level. Although not doing that does lead to great content moments!
What a twist! Though I do think I prefer the regular Nuzlockes and Tarn’s reactions to the games. Will you do Gen 4 like Platinum and beyond? Keep it up!

I am fairly sure that for the enemy pokemon they have the last 4 moves that they were able to learn so that lucky encounter was because the last 4 moves before was not the type that it needed (I am talking about the point around 43:34)
So it does learn moves of that before the level but it was not the last 4.
The editing has definitely leveled up in quality! I'm actually replaying LG so it was so great to come across this video. Also, Tarny, my wife says you laugh like a seagull and it cracks her up 😂😂😂

Loved vid and was laughin. Do have one suggestion with soul-links if wish to use that others have done. Since there are so few mons with primary flying type and there are so many mons for ones that are normal/flying, you could treat them as flying/normal. As there are like 3 mons entire 900+ with the primary (and pure) flying typing.
Was just suggestion so maybe have a slightly easier time making teams, but like i said it is a slight rule bend if so choose to use in future. Like swablu goes from normal/flying to dragon/flying.

Some people do flying pokemon could also have etheir of theme be their primary type. If they are more like a fly than the other type.
This is due to only 9 primary flying types, currently 1 being a 2 stage evolution and a 3 stage evo line.
The rest are one stage. until Gen 5 there was none.
