  • Yoav was a gifted athlete, coaching boys and girls and training them to peak condition in preparation for military service. On 16 September 2011, Yoav was electrocuted by a high voltage line during a routine workout in the area of a seemingly harmless sand dune. He suffered severe burns all over his body. Hardly showing any sign of life, he was flown by helicopter to the hospital. He had little chance of surviving the night. But he came through it. Yoav has gone down as a medical miracle. His story, about the will to survive and how to cope with terrible suffering, is presented in a fascinating, moving, and hope-inspiring lecture. This is the story of a man who will make you think once again about your life. Yoav Asa, an informal educator, heads the national organization "Asa Oti Lohem" (Make Me a Fighter) which for more than twenty years has prepared high school students from various population sectors for meaningful military service in the elite units of the Israel Defence Force. He is one of the founders of the Lauro Association and its flagship program known as "Leadership". A life teacher and educator of thousands of boys and girls for the achievement of fulfillment, leadership, and love for their country, Yoav is married to Mor and father to Omer. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at www.ted.com/tedx

    One day I was at my chiropractor. A gentleman, older than me ,was seated in the waiting room with me. Tall, very athletic, serious countenance. Absolutely clearly out of the blue, the man turned to me and began speaking to me. Why? I had no clue…And this is what he told me:He was a military pilot during the Vietnam War. Shot down, he was close to death. And he had an NDE, though he did not call it that, he used some other term.And he began to describe the experience. What was most powerful to me was not the experience itself, but his countenance as a person. He had the demeanor of a very serious, no nonsense, military person. Perhaps, you know, maybe the absolute last person who you might think would believe in such things. And yet, there it was. The testimony of this person.And, without pride, without ego, simple, direct, matter of fact.And, he concluded by saying that after the experience, he felt that he was supposed to share the experience with others.I don’t know that I am conveying this well, in words. It was the power of the presence of the man, in person. I guess you might say that there was some spiritual light or spiritual power about him? Not sure exactly what or how to phrase that?May everyone be filled with the peace and love and joy and blessings of God!

    Your accident reminds me of my brother Ray, who was a Newton, MA firefighter USA...He was burned with Metallic Sodium which burns with water...He was burned 90 per cent of his body worse than acid and put in an induced coma for about 6 months...He was blinded, lost much of his hearing...disfigured but lived and after over a year of in the hospital, he was in and out to stretch his skin and operations... Ray, had an angel for a wife and lived for almost 30 years...Just this last year my younger brother Robin died of Cancer which he kept to himself until the end days....Ray, had a heart attack 10 weeks later, and died. Ray's, wife said Ray, could not get over losing my brother, Robin.....I understand your pain, as a family member...God be with you.. You look very handsome and strong...

      sending you love. losing those we love is a challenge like none other. Especially 2 so close together. For your own healing, reach out. Grief counselors and, even better, MAP practitioners (search for the MAP Method) can help a lot. Meanwhile, I know it's trite to say, but I believe it's absolutely true, you now have 2 loving brothers watching over you!

    Hi. I'm here in Israel, too,
    trying to overcome the result of these last few years of many kinds of severe stress. Your talk touched me and spoke to me. I think you were lucky in having so much loving support. After 50 years in Israel, I miss my U.S. family so much; with age (75) friends have all died or moved away or are themselves very sick.
    I've been thorough many hard times, pulled through.
    This time I am shaken to my core, as you were wonderfully frank and open to describe in your experience.
    I agree 100% with everything you say; I think it will help me find the way. Toda raba. יישר כח
    Of course I loved the very end of the talk, smiling through tears.

      Better" being what crazed preconception?By" better do you mean not being an half-witted credulous imbecilethat cannot detect an obvious liar when you encounter one?
      Beter or more good by what criterion?Good can only possibly be be likable and in what respect are those that believe what they *want* to believe or*liars* likable?You want to be a better liar. Bavo, you are sh1t at lying of not as bad at lying as those claiming to have had "near"(and how " near"?) death experiences who can*Only* be lying. not only do men(human beings dream all-the-time, they*lie* all-they time which is what they cannot tell truth from lies.
      Exacly how"near" is a " near"?Aak that simple question and the entire near death experience fraud falls topieces and is exposed as the pack of lies it is.

    accepting where you are and what you can do from there. it’s going to work, i think. i’m depressed and very anxious. don’t fight it. accept it! so simple! fit then outside reality with yourself. accept responsibility and one thing, next day two things. next is a very hard step - get out of the house and work at volunteering. (believe it or not, it’s very difficult to find a place to volunteer in New York City. too many people already volunteering!) so this is actually a hard job, which is totally ridiculous!

    The term "Near Death Experience" in this day and age has come to what happens when a person has clinically died and has experienced events "on the other side." Yoav certainly had a remarkable and searing experience and indeed, he almost died, but that's not what I thought when I tuned in to watch his "Near Death Experience." There is much that is inspirational, much to respect and admire in his journey; but what saddens me is that all of his extraordinary gifts and lessons are being harnessed to support the military, to prepare youngsters for war. What a force of good he could be in his country and in the world if he would apply these same values and strengths to develop soldiers for peace.

    That was a beautiful story thank you so much for sharing it I’m struggling with my mother who is 72 years old I’ve had a lot of childhood trauma through my father and my mother had a lot of responsibility keeping us there and not removing us and now my mother is in need of care and I’m still struggling in therapy to make sense of all of this and have recently been diagnosed with PTSD it’s so difficult I feel like if my father and my mother would’ve said they were sorry or took accountability somehow this would all go away but I never got either of those and I feel very victimized by conversations she has with me every time we talk but inherently in my heart she’s my mother and I want to try and help her your story helped me what you said about doing for others that sets you free I pray it affords me the freedom that I’ve long for from the pain that I’ve endured from my parents that to this day I still love. God bless you I’m so glad you’re OK❤️❤️🙏

      Your parents couldn't do better. What they did is not because of meanness or lack of love. They were in their own trauma. It's so hard to accept because as children we expect our parents to be better, but they're just flawed human being like you and me. If you can step out of the situation and try to see it not as their child but as an objective bystander it will ease the pain. I know it's so hard, I've been there. Wishing you all the best ❤

    • @weaverdreams
      @weaverdreams 2 года назад

      Well yeah you can serve others but I would be selective about who I serve. Especially people who have harmed you so badly and still continue doing so. Maybe your mother needs to reap what she sowed. You’ve already forgiven her in your heart but that doesn’t mean you have to give up your own time and freedom and sanity to help her, subjecting yourself to more verbal abuse.
      Let her pay for the care she needs. Take care of yourself right now.
      By the way look into stellate ganglion block to set you free from the PTSD. But you can’t let yourself be around triggers like your mother.
      If I read this right you got PTSD partially because of your parents. So you can forgive them in your heart but it’s not healthy for you to continue being around people and events that trigger the PTSD. You can serve others but be selective about who you serve. May God bless you and I hope you recover from the PTSD.

    Sounds like a very painful, difficult & profound experience. This man was close (near) to death and seems to be simply telling his story of appreciation of the care & love he felt which helped him to heal. And to teach and help others. I don’t see why people are so apposed to him saying it was a near death experience which it was for him. When I see “NDE” I would expect to hear an out of body experience, but he did come “close” to death and that seems to me to be all he is saying. TED talk speakers are not paid and I didn’t see any promotion of anything that would lead to his profit from his story. He seemed sincere and grateful

    • @xzonia1
      @xzonia1 Год назад +1

      It's just click-bait-y is all. It'd have been better if he'd said he had a near fatal experience, as opposed to a "near death experience" because NDE has a specific meaning. It's a bit like saying you made tacos when you actually made nachos. Sure, all the topping ingredients might be the same - meat, cheese, lettuce, tomatoes, guac, sour cream, hot sauce - but one is served in a crunchy corn shell while the other is served on a bed of crunchy corn chips. Practically the same thing, but not, which is why they have different names. You're getting a different experience, and it's polite to set proper expectations for what that experience will be by using the correct name for it. That's all.

      @@xzonia1 I TEND TO AGREE, IF HE HAD CALLED IT ANOTHER NAME IT WOULD HAVE BEEN BETTER. I ONLY CAME HERE TO HEAR ABOUT HIS NEAR DEATH EXPERIENCE. IVE ONLY SEEN A FRACTION OF THIS SO FAR SO NOW I THINK I WILL PASS WATCHING IT ANY FURTHER.

    I am a medium that connects people to their departed loved ones in the Spirit world. I find this talk interesting because I know that the other side has much to teach us. In my experience, working with Spirit has been a gift and I have no doubt that NDE are similar in revealing sacred insights. Thanks, Yoav!
