I absolutely love the Teleport feature in UniFi. As a tech lead, it’s been such a lifesaver. There have been times when junior team members run into issues, and I can just hop onto the mixing console remotely, fix the routing, or sort things out without having to be there in person.
For those with a bit tighter of a budget-the Cloud Gateway Max is only $200, it’s tiny, and it’s a plenty capable UniFi router for most church requirements. UDM Pro is likely more router than you need.
It's a nice setup you got there, but one big mistake, do NOT use the 8 port swtich on the UDM Pro. They all share a 1Gbit backbone. Use the 10Gbit SPF+ port down to your switches. You can get transivers for ethernet or a dac cable, unless you feel like going fiber up to the stage. We use Ubiquiti systems ourselves at our church :)
I work in IT and Unifi is a great option for churches as it isn't thousands of dollars to get started. Depends on what you actually need. Unifi is on the lower end/small business side as far as price and performance. Although they are branching out into more enterprise equipment but not needed here. You can even build out your whole sweep of things with them. APs, cameras, door access. If you go much lower in cost your getting into more consumer grade hardware, which can work but would highly encourage looking at Unifi. I'd be willing to help a church spec what they need for Network gear if asked. I love working on this stuff.
UniFi is one of the best entry level network systems to get setup on. Unfortunately, you’re going to have to spend some money to get a good network system setup.
If you're looking for a budget-friendly way to get started with UniFi, the UniFi Dream Router is a great option. It includes a built-in WiFi 6 access point and offers four ports, two of which are PoE-enabled.
I was thinking that this was all going to be thousands but when i looked it up you can get a switch the udm and access point for less than a thousand really. It’s not bad especially considering what all you’re getting. I definitely will be adding to my list to replace our nighthawk router here soon!
Thankful that Ubiquiti switches will soon officially support the protocols that Audinate requires for Dante. Previously there was not official support for this and you were riding on prayer that your Dante systems would work properly lol the updates for this on UniFi switches are still in alpha and beta testing but hopefully will be pushing out soon! All that said, we have a Dante network throughout our building on Ubiquiti hardware and it has worked great.
@WesleyanWorshipGuy did you have to tweak anything on the Ubiquity side during setup to make Dante work correctly? We've recently set our Dante network up, separate VLAN and Subnet and I'm still getting some audio dropout. Didn't know if there was anything special you might have done to get it to work correctly. Thanks!
@ fortunately no. It has just worked for us somehow. We have been diligent about making sure IP addresses are static for any devices on the Dante network and have no possibility of being stolen by another device. Aside from that, it has just worked. We are also being bad and have it on our main network without a secondary network. It’s by the grace of God that we are able to send as much over it without drop outs as we are 😅
@@WesleyanWorshipGuy lol... we started out that way before we moved to the VLAN option. I'm trying to track down if our dropout is due to the network or the dante card in the X32. Thanks!
2 things that would make it much better. Great video though but heres what id recommend. Use the SFP ports for the uplinks with DAC cables to the switches for faster connections. Using the 1GB ports as uplinks you are limited to the 1GB speed for the whole switch. Using the SFP ports those are at least 10GB. For instance you have all the devices on the switch downloading let's say an update. You would be pulling more than the 1GB. Also se the aggregation switch between the UDM and the switches. Adds more cost but makes it so it's an even 10GB between the switches.
When you say set up a "separate network" for the office stuff and production stuff, do you mean separate connections overall, or just a separate VLAN? Our church runs in a way the production computers and the office computers need access to the same network printers. Not sure how I'd go about "separating" them, while letting them use the printers.
The addition of "Pro Av" on the port manager is what I needed! Anyone know: Would the Netgear AV Switches offer anything that the Unifi gear doesn't? We are all Unifi for everything network already...I'd like to keep it that way, but we've been recommended the Netgear AV Line M4250
Cool video! From our experience, I recommend the Pro Max series of switches, or higher, for better stability and performance. And most importantly, use a switch that has SFP+ so you can utilize 10 GB of data in and out of the switch, instead of just 1 GB.
We tried running Dante on our Ubuquiti hardware a year ago and it failed. Ended up moving to another product for just Dante. Would have been nice to be on a single platform.
I've seen you guys (specifically Luke) install the Netgear M4250 line of switches before, could we get a video like this for their Web GUI? Everything IT/Networking is so foreign to me.
This is an additional question and from someone fairly new to networking - Is there anything currently router + network switch wise that is compatible with Fiber Optic cable? That is an ultimate future proofing cable if I'm not mistaken? Capable of 100gbps? One day we'll be bouncing 8k footage around buildings I imagine so setting up this kind of infrastructure early, budget permitting is potentially a good move? Interested in people's thoughts!
@@jcnash02 So it really is just 'overkill' for most current tech uses? Also seen that fiber optic has a lower latency? That screams massive benefits to me for doing anything audio over network?
Having it on a separate VLAN means that only the devices that actually use Dante are isolated from everything else on the network avoiding any interference from other network devices
@@JoshuaRotimi It would more so be a case of if another device had DVS installed and connected to the Dante network any audio could potentially be accidentally routed through the Dante system, worst case scenario type thing

Need to use the 10gb ports for uplinks would give you more bandwidth from dream machine to switches
You're getting into my territory now. IT pro here
Haven't looked into the UniFi stuff before.. pretty sick! I'm still running off our stuff off of $40 switches and a router that we had lying around 😂
If you are on a tight budget instead of buying separate networking equipment , just create separate VLANs for Audio/Video traffic.

Maybe some packet prioritization but the unfi is getting that vary soon in the stable release.
