    NOTE: You can use STP (Shielded) BUT the metal drain wire has to be properly wired to a ground on ONE end! (Not both)

  • @dx9s
    @dx9s День назад +4

    @5:40 you mentioned UTP and issues with STP. I see the RJ45 port also had metal so guessing the shielding was bonding the chassis ground of both devices, which ends creating a potential ground loop and sums the various noises (static electricity, 60Hz hum, radio) from both ends. It would have been nice to drop the shield on one end and see if that fixed the issue. In certain applications, shielding should have only one path to earth (or in your case chassis) ground, which might have been the issue here. This is a subject I have been researching for a while now and why I use (so far successfully) CAT5+ shielding that drains at one end only for AES50.

    I like this as an option. I'm debating getting a small rack in our tech booth. But may not go this route.
    We're finishing up our church renovation and thinking through the booth cleanup. (All the cables are running on the desk while we finish the floor.) The runs to a rack would be under 15ft, so we're just thinking of mounting the hardware underneath the desk along the sides of the cabinets. It may not be pretty, but we went over budget with everything else. All the excess cable in the ceiling ended up in the booth as well, so we're thinking of getting garage utility hooks to hide the excess under the desk.
    For everyone else, keep this in mind. What are "Nice to have" items, verses "Need to have" items.

    We’ve had a few headaches with our extender, used shielded cables.. so now this’ll resolve that issue😂😂

    I used same brand for our rack mixer. I needed the mixer up front but still wanted control with FireWire at tech booth. Used this to mimic having a stagebox and it was super solid for years

    I LOVE using kvms! I use KVM software to simultaneously control my laptop and desktop at home. Can have music/videos/etc. playing on my laptop while working on stuff on my desktop and it doesn't use the desktop's resources.

    A question, would it be possible to connect to a Mac mini an MR18 as an audio interface to send the streaming audio and use a KVM to send that audio to the FOH through the network cables? Thanksss 🙏🏻

    We use the Apple Magic trackpad 2 on the propresenter machine at one of the churches I assist at. The solution is to leave it plugged in all the time.

    Just put in an adder KVM for our Resolume computer. Have you had any luck with getting MIDI controllers to go through KVM? I can power the unit(akai, midi mix), but the Mac won’t see it as a midi device. I confirmed it works by plugging it directly in to the new Mac Studio also.

      We use a midi controller and touch screen for Waves LV1 and the midi works fine with an AVAccess kvm.

    Do you think it will work with CAT5e? We currently use an HDMI extender over CAT5e and it works great but we need USB.

    • @Churchfront
      @Churchfront  День назад +1

      Yes, it should work fine. Just make sure it’s unshielded. Also just check with the manufacturer recommendations.

      @@Churchfront Thanks for the reply. I worry about having a computer back in a rack and a power flicker/outage takes place and the only way to power the computer back on is to go to the rack and press the power button. It would be great is there was a way for for the KVM to allow for power on/off as needed.

      @@halharrison9823for this I recommend to things 1. Getting a UPS which is important for the equipment to not get shot with an electric issues 2. set the Mac to reboot on automatically after power loss. This is imperative especially in situations where the computer is not easily accessible

    This was a great video. I only have one critique. The metric system is used by more than half of the world’s population. And it’s highly robust. I work in AVL for churches and non church venues. When you say things like “real measuring units” you insult people throughout the world. As believers we need to avoid doing this. It also degrades your ability to be trusted professionally. We should be learning both because both are really strong forms of measurement. Be blessed.
