What it comes down to is this, for me at least, RUclips isn't creating content. They are charging $22/month and acting like they're HBO. There not. The creators on this site are the ones making the content and more often than not barely getting paid. It's a grift.
We need to send a message. I hate the ads but I’m gonna unsub for at least a month or so, and I encourage everyone to do the same. We need to show RUclips and other companies that random price hikes will lose them money.
Just dont give youtube so much of your lifetime and you dont need premium its just a narcotic.

A company as large as RUclips, owned by an even larger company, Google, doesn't care about a few unhappy subscribers. Netflix kept raising prices and changing services until hundreds of thousands of subscribers quit in the same quarter. Only when it hit their stock price did it get onto their radar screen. The same will apply here...and RUclips bets that most of us who dislike the ads will quickly come back once we have to watch them again.
I don't understand why YT charges as much or more than streaming services like Netflix which actually produce their own content, whereas YT gets others to produce content, and probably pays much less for it than say a Netflix. It seems like they are charging a lot because they have an effective monopoly (no close competitor).
RUclips charges as much or more than Netflix since the amount of content is on orders of magnitude more than other services. Dont forget RUclips pays creators for said content. How many hours of video is on RUclips 🆚 Netflix? Not even a comparison
Have you sense what Google has with RUclips compared to Netflix? It's not just one thing. There is also the number of videos they have. Music, TV, etc. That all costs money to make sure the site is always up and running.
More people use and watch RUclips, then a streaming service like Spotify or Netflix.
Why can’t they separate ad free RUclips and RUclips music? It’s so ridiculous. The ads are out of control now allowing 11 ads and putting them on creators videos who aren’t even monetized. I’m only paying family for 2 accounts so it is not worth it.

I think one of the other reasons why they would raise just the family plan price is to incentivise users to drop down to the individual plan vs cancelling altogether. I'm sure some will see the greater absolute price point gap and switch to individual plans... and then their friends who were on their family plan will also subscribe 🙂
I think I will eventually go with an outside antenna & I need to watch TV less & I have books waiting to be read.
I am unwilling to pay for Premium, mainly due to budget constraints. I'll continue muting the intro ad while doing something else, then return and back up the video to the beginning. When the overly loud, obnoxious ads play during the YT video, I sarcastically sing loudly until I can return to the video.

Oh by the way, just tdoay they changed my INDIVIDUAL subscription plan from $11 to $13. Because they're providing more content or service? No. They're providing less - and they get all of it for free. They're doing it because these media corporations are past trying to provide value - they're just trying to extract as much money as possible. And please stop calling their plan "normal" - it's not normal. It's excessive - massively excessive.
I just got a year subscription 119$ Canadian on my laptop ...thanks to you... I had a family plan on my phone that I stopped because of increase, why do they say at the same address and don't really carer and/or check ? Now I saw on my laptop a student fee for like 6.99$C and it will be good for my son and cheaper than family plan. thanks again for your help and God bless you. Oh yes, I found you because I was looking for the reason RUclips didn't allow me an individual subscription on my phone...it was block but I could with the Family one??? weird... if you want to pay 4$ to get RUclips without adds legit, there is the Bro Browser App that gives you that choice.
I am now paying $15/mo (Family is now $22!). The worst part is, I still see ads several times/wk, and my account has been hacked into and hijacked several times!😢
Should have dropped the price not raised it at least make an option for RUclips ad free without music would be nice. Remember RUclips is mostly just amateur videos people filming in their room or walking around. You don't want to be priced as much as Netflix!!!!
Agreed. If they increase the price. just give us the youtube video premium only plan with cheaper price.
Coincidentally, the price increases coincide with Google removing the ability of most browser based adblocker extensions from working in it's future versions of Chrome.
they dont block them. They just make limits to the amount of ads-adress you can block. Glad it was postponed
@@reamsel They disable support for Manifest 2 based APIs . Manifest 3 reduces extensions' permissions to manage privacy settings.
So the individual price is staying the same. Thanks for the alert. I am still in the trial. I signed up after watching your last video. Loving the no ads. But if they do raise to $15.99 I am out.

I was paying 4.99 a month until earlier today, when I started getting ads, all of a sudden. When I went to check my subscription, I had to pay 11.99 to resubscribe! What gives?
Haven't subbed to premium for a while and you used to get yt music ad free. Now it's £9.99 for yt music without ads. RUclips are now a rip off.

I've had RUclips premium/Google music since it was 7.99. I had the family plan and can't justify nearly $25/mo. I unsubscribed as soon as I got the email.

Another comparison is Apple One. $16.95 individual and $22.95 for family (share up to 5 people).

How to downgrade from family to individual plan? I've tried viewing membership editing etc. but downgrading not an option...though upgrading is ezpz

RUclips is not like the other services. I think that's what people are missing. It's music, video, etc. platform. It's not just one thing.

I also just received a notice Apple premium increases , So I will be paying 15.00 more a month! For the 2 subscriptions. I’m dropping you tube, 29.99 a month is just too much.
Parents buying a service for Music for their Family will not care about no ads as most parents aren't on RUclips. Family Pricing is sensitive to competition.
RUclips individual is higher than Spotify and higher on Family and Google is trying to justify that by bundling no Ads Premium. Parents don't care about that.
Google must be looking at the 2 person household, young couples etc, 30 or less that fit a demographic of RUclips users and music buyers. Not the 6 person family. This is why you see the step jump you describe. If Spotify gives you a cheaper 2 person plan, Google can't compete without "adding Features" like no ads premium. I'm in the position with 3 people and RUclips consumer with a strong disgust for all the ads. Family plan makes sense by being $5 more than Spotify family but lower per person cost over both service of premium and music alone. Bundling is their strategy. Premium is only worth $5 relatively, not $12. Still doesn't solve the lack of integration and connectivity and poor sound quality and consistency. Thinking to go back to Ads and Spotify family after the trial!
I will not support a corporation that raises the price for an already ridiculously-priced Premium service.
If they cut the price in half, I'll consider it. But I'm content with my Adblocker for now.
I had been paying 22.99 for Family via Apple, but following your video, it looks like the yearly price went up to $29.99. Canceled via Apple and will re-subscribe via YT directly... so far YT account on my computer has not updated to give me options to subscribe.
I followed all steps but didn’t see the $11.xx price, do I need to wait until subscription ended or this method has been removed?

it takes awhile after unsubbing on ios before yiur browswer will see the change. i just did it monday and it worked

I am still paying $9.99 for a single RUclips Premium. I think when they went to $11.99 I was told I was grandfathered into the $9.99? I thought oh that is cool but not sure how long it will last. I wonder why they do not have an annual plan? I.E, Pay 10 months but you get 12 is what most annual plans offer. I am a fan and I have a number of services where I pay extra to have no commercials. I do wish RUclips would break out music. Maybe drop the price a couple dollars without it and maybe have a higher cost if they compete with Spotify or Apple Music.

The trend line is meaningless, and the "per person" price for anything above 2 users is meaningless, too. Indeed, it almost seems deliberately misleading. A family plan costs the same whether 2 people are using or six people, so if you have 1 or 2 people, why would it matter what a per person cost is at 6 people? Indeed, if you want to show data, these kinds of charts are about the worst way you could demonstrate it given the issue. What is more meaningful is a statement like this: since service launch in early 2017, RUclips has hiked it's youtube TV prices FIVE times for a total of 108% over 5 years. THat's hardly matching inflation, is it. And these charts are NOT TRENDING DOWN, it simply makes sense that if they have a max number of users - THE MAJORITY OF WHICH DON'T USE THAT MANY PEOPLE - you'd be paying less per person if you're maxing out your subscription. I hate to say it, but boy - this is a terrible video and a meaningless narrative.
Preach it! 🎉 Yes, the price increase is wildly disproportionate to inflation, and server administration probably got cheaper in that time.
Plus they're probably doing more with AI now & thus are paying less human employee (and contractor) seconds per hour a user spends on the site.
So, if anything, the price of Premium should've increased by a smaller amount than inflation (perhaps even decreased).
Instead, they're way over inflation. Way over rent increases even, which itself is way over inflation, which is way over wage increases.
Your chart listed as $$$ per user isn’t really correct. In a household of 5-6 it’s still one or two that are paying. Unless you can convince 7-15 year olds to cough up some earned $$$ the graph is just wrong.
They kept increasing the amount of ads, it's pretty logical to assume they are going to try and juice as much out of their paid service as well. The thing that is kinda shocking is how fast they ramped up the increases(at least on the ad side). I guess eventually they'll go to a partial ad/partial paid scheme like Netflix once they fugue out how they can get away with it(no, I don't mean they'll no longer have free/ad-supported anymore just a middle-tier).
I'm ok with these companies making money. What I'm not particularly ok with is the monopolization of these sectors or industries. This is what happens when you have very few companies competing in the same sector. It's good for those companies, but not consumers. Supposedly Capitalism creates efficiency through competition. As you can see, I guess that depends on who Capitalism is creating the efficiency for. The consumer or the efficiency of the business to make a profit.
No, I'm not against Capitalism; I'm against free-market Capitalism.
I have YT Premium for the no-ad benefit. YT is my primary entertainment (not TV or streaming). The music is a bonus and my family shares it. Everyone has to make their choice. No ads on YT is a key difference from your comparisons.
Another great option of premium is the pop-out option. So, I can watch or listen to YT while doing other things on my phone.

I am a premium member for several years now and I think most things RUclips are wonderful, and I wouldn't want it if I had to watch ads. However, I want to watch movies etc offline as youtube has stated, but instructions for how to do this are not good. I will be much happier if YOU or someone else would present a How To Do This video like this one for offline watching. Please. . .
stop calling it an apple tax. how much you think you're overpaying to have the groceries you get in the store. it aint a TAX. its google not wanting to give someone 30% to have their product in someone elses store. anyway. in order for it to make sense now you gotta have 6 ppl on shitty premium. i HATE having to pay 24.00 just to not have ads.
I did the calculations and with RUclips premium through Apple 15.99 X 12 = 191.88
Vs
12 months for 119.99 is a savings of 71.89.
Non- apple 11.99 x 12 =143.88
143.88 - 119.99 (yearly premium) is a savings of 23.89 a year.
Very interesting video. As RUclips is my primary source of news and entertainment (both video and music) I am continuing. I'm thankful that I opted to pay up front for an annual membership tonight. (Very timely shift from Apple payment as my previous monthly subscription ends tomorrow.) I will be looking closely at some of my other subscriptions services... but for now, RUclips stays. I look forward to more of your content... Cheers.
yeah mine is going from 9.99 to 13.99 next month so I am unsubscribing from it
I just renewed subscription after ending my trail this week. My single has changed to $15.99 on iOS as of yesterday. But I do enjoy ad free audio content. Audiobooks. ASMR. ETC..Just wish I'd tried YTP in it's earlier years when it was cheaper apparently

$11.99 on the individual plan is no longer $11.99 in the state of Florida. I was sent an email saying that a telecommunications tax will be added to my state starting August 2022. That is the reason I am now paying $13.58 instead of $11.99. Another government instrusion. Everything by now has been taxed in the internet.
I receive great benefits from RUclips Premium. I'm not affected by the price. It's a small price to pay compared to the educational benefits I receive from the service. The biggest expense going forward will be compensating creators.

I'm gonna cancel it's not worth 23 dollars a month ("family plan") imo, the best part about RUclips isn't really the content creators reinventing themselves for likes and monetization, its the people who come and use it, and the things they have to say in the comment section. Discovering what's going on in in the minds of strangers I'll never meet is pretty interesting but not 276 Dollars a Year interesting.

I’m not paying more than $11.99 for my single plan. I’m struggling to justify the 11.99 price because I don’t use the the RUclips music. I’ll just go back to free ad supported RUclips and because of the increase in advertising I’ll end up watching less RUclips altogether.

I know I am overpaying for YT Premium since day 1 but I continued to pay via Apple so I don't have to setup for Gpay
I would probably get rid of Netflix and keep YT Premium. I watch and listen so much stuff daily on YT, even with screen locked and earphones. I got rid of spotify and got YT premium, YT music is worse ino but it does the job.
Comparing RUclips Premium to either Apple Music or Spotify is one of the dumbest things I've be ever seen. Unless they're offering the same perks as RUclips, oc

Welp - time to go back to ad-blocking.There are 2 people on my family plan and I'm not paying nearly $300 a month for this, lol. Going from $15 to $23 a month is absurd. You can't just raise prices on goods when wages don't reflect price increases. I'm a google fanboy, my house is google, my phone is google, etc etc, and I'm pretty much over the greed... especially as their quality and services get worse and worse.
