Most kids have their parents buy them a bike. This guys parents said "Want a bike? Go build one". I'm a bit similar to this man in that I do my best to not waste anything. I grew up that way. Sure you get some stares from others and some hassles from time to time, but you save a LOT of money while helping the environment a bit.

never too late for us to start, Debbie. even old like me. if this is what your heart says do, then find small ways to do it and build from there. the world needs us.

Debbie, Mike Reinolds ring a bell? He has been doing it since i was born in 1974 and is doing it all over the world. His teachings made it to Bulgaria and I am not throwing anything out any more. I pay no garbage bills. I pay no septic tank clean up and I compost all my food and paper waste. I even have a compost toilet in a bathroom I built from glass jars.
If you want ultimate water usage watch Garbage Warrior movie.

I've watched meny videos about this project and am so impressed with this man. What a beautiful soul. To be so resourceful and utilize so much that would pollute our planet by ending up in the landfill.take all that and use it to better the lives of others is not just amazing it's a quality that I believe worthy of a noble peace prize. Plus on top of that taking unskilled labor and training them so that they can use the knowledge to support themselves or to educate others and forward the skills and blessings to others and be s link in a chain of loveing and caring for your fellow man.Blessings to Dan and his wife.

  • @bluefrog85

If you put a heater in- gas is generally more efficient. Maybe one of those little wall furnaces- their cheap. The stoves are nice if you have access to the wood- otherwise you probably won't be saving much if you have to buy wood and transport it and such. I could be totally wrong and it depends on how much wood you end up using in one winter and such. ALSO you might look up "bottle houses", thats another neat idea. IF your building in the city tho check with code offices on everything!

  • @bluefrog85
    @bluefrog85 12 лет назад

Its truly amazing what he does but without someone like him right along the way and without knowledge and access to the materials- this is literally impossible for the common man to do. My landfill won't let you take ANYTHING out no matter who you are. They don't send anything to storage or whatever this guy did... Then the codes here wouldn't allow half the stuff they do... The common person couldn't begin to make the code office happy... This is impractical unless theres enough help out there.

  • @vutEwa

@GrenadeChick99 well, you may be right about that but this is a sound idea to build homes with available resources, those closest to you. Recycling is a good thing. Sometimes the process of recycling becomes a beautiful art form. The transformational efforts are well rewarding to exercise people's creative energies.

@SheOwnsFrodo I have seen a building inspector turn a blind eye to moldy structures and materials for money. The air was so thick with mold you could hardly breathe and all he was interested in was the thickness of pipe insulation. Inspectors are there to collect your loose cash and to make sure everybody makes the same mistakes the same way every time. Unhealthy or dangerous building is OK as long as the right people get paid. That's the reality in building and planning.

How ironic this program was underwritten by Haliburton. I saw this guy's ted talk. If he would join forces with some green building people - so the houses were energy efficient. Wow frame shop samples - great idea.

Christina Michele his ideas have taken off, but mostly in third world nations. There are areas with a lack resources to even build a house due to lack of raw material. The end result is using waste from the USA dumped in Africa to build homes. Just Google 2 liter Coke bottle homes.

@GreedIsYourGod agreed. thats why i think i'm going to build me a cob-adobe home. they can't tell me i need a permit to "move dirt around on my own property". recycling is great for other things once the "dirt pile" in the shape of a building has been finished. so long as i never refer to it directly as a building, but instead something else like "dirt sculpture" they can't make me tear it down. that's my idea for passing the first nosy building inspector

I live in Scottsdale Az, where 80% (or more) of the workforce is imported. There is no such thing as a "green house" there with that taken in consideration. Even the landscaping codes prevent planting natural plants. It has become a gravel city. They don't believe anyone under 6 figure income should be allowed to live there, or own a home. "Workforce can live elsewhere", "too poor to own homes" (multihousing assoc). Planning dept is owned by re developers. The 1% like it.

  • @Jefferdaughter

It is really sad that most landfills now forbid anyone from 'gleaning' materials, 'for legal reasons'. Some of this is due to liability, but the authorities and the courts need to make people take responsibility for their own actions - life is lived at your own risk! (A town in NY state stopped making mulch available free to residents from shredded yard waste when a man sued them because he claimed he injured his back while shoveling the mulch into his own vehicle. The residents of the area should have filed a suit against this man for depriving them of their mulch! One wonders if a landscape company in the region may have been behind this... they certainly took advantage of the situation.) Obviously, common sense must be applied; maybe that is the underlying issue.

Yes Jefferdaughter, I believe that this is due to the fact that companies wanted to charge money for it. Any judge would have said no to the man do for the fact that no one made him shoved the world shavens! The business makes more money of having a fall guy and making people pay for. and we know our city officials or bought by big business.

@GreedIsYourGod Anybody who tried to build anything like this in my country would be taken to court and forced to demolish the thing on pain of severe fines. Naturally, he'd have to cover the legal expenses as well. If he refused, the fine would be doubled until he would owe all the money in the world. On top of that would come ridicule on a national scale, probably a trip to a mental institution as well. Building companies own the law around here. You are so right.

its cruel to bring children into a world when you can't provide for them. My parents had 2 children enough to replace themselves and not contribute to overpopulation. Also they owned a home when I was conceived. They had no intention of bearing children they couldn't provide for. Clearly this women has no concern for the planet, overpopulation, or the well being of the children she can't provide for.
