- Installation and setup of an OMTech CW-5200 Chiller.
The concept will be the same for the CW-5202 but you will need to loop a hose from the Inlet 2 to Outlet 2 if you are only running on laser

A word to the wise (from personal experience) if you are going to use tie straps, I would suggest using a couple of smaller ones placed between the barbs on the hose connections. The first time I used a large one and it caused a small gap, that allowed a small continuous trickle of water to leak out. I switched to smaller ones and aligned them between the ridges on the barbed fitting. Make sure that the locking end on the tie straps are not lined up with each other. I would also avoid the standard turn screw hose clamps for the same reason (the small ones will leave a gap as well). In the end I finally went with spring clamps (they look like a circle with rabbit ears, you can get them at an auto parts store) because they give nice even pressure all the way around, and they are easy to put on and take off. Just my two cents worth.

Just fired this thing up and noticed that one small tie-strap did not prevent leaks (trickling) from the Omtech back end. Think I will be going your route instead of multiple ties. Will I need to drain in order to reapply the clamps or just cut zip ties and apply, run again?

@@1haggler I wish OMTECH had used slightly larger barbed hose fittings because that's where mine leaked as well (the ones on my OMTECH CW-5200 are just a little bigger). What I did was cut the tie straps first, pinch the hose just behind the chiller fitting and cut it (I wanted a fresh section of hose), then pull off the bit of hose left on the chiller. With the end of the hose held up I slid on two spring clamps and then, still pinching, reconnected the hose. Once I had the spring clamps in place, I did a leak check, guess what.....no leaks! When I did each hose this way, I lost almost no water at all, and the spring clamps make it easy to disconnect the hoses if I need to. Sorry for the long explanation, I don't get out much 🤣.
@@oeadesignworks Your welcome. Your video was much easier to follow than some of the others I've watched. For me, the biggest problem is getting it into set-up mode. It takes me six or seven tries before I can get that "0" to show up, you got it first try. You must have the magic touch.

How do you remove the air from the system?
When installing the hoses there might be air
Typically, just running the chiller for a little while will work the air bubbles out. Sometimes, you can pinch or tap the hose to help move the bubbles.

I mean if there are bubbles they will come back
Or let me put it this way. Where is the return pipe going (inside the chiller)? how does the inner deposit look like with the return pipe?
Hi a very good explanation. I recently got a cw5200 and having some temp issues. Does the length of the water lines affect the cooling ?
If you use the lines that come with the laser, there shouldn't be any issue. I wouldn't recommend making them to long to avoid straining the pump

Be sure to press and hold the up arrow before pressing and holding the set button to get into the settings
I can’t remember where I had seen it (might have been for PC water cooling) but someone recommended installing a flow indicator to show pumps actually doing their job and not just making noise, which would be easy to overlook in a noisy workspace. Fairly cheap and easy to install and simple to use too. Certainly an easier cost to swallow than a burnt tube!

Make sure you distilled water not any other bottle water. Also recommend adding some anti algae to the water.

I have the CW 5200 chiller. Would food coloring in the water be detrimental to the system? It would make seeing the water level much easer.
I wouldn't do it. The reason we put distilled water in the chillers is to avoid contaminates. I wouldn't intentionally add something else . Suggest using a flashlight to check your water level instead

my button said RST, not RET. this caused me alot of problems. the manual I received was also wrong. hit RET to save the settings I just changed.
maybe its a new style chiller? is it the OMtech brand?
So we have went through all of the steps you show in this video and our alarm goes off as soon as we turn the chiller on. Any suggestions of what we need to do to get the alarm to turn off.
Have you determined the reason for the alarm? Do you have the right amount of water in your machine?
Is your laser on during the reset process?
yes mine is but it doesn't have to be. If you are asking because you plugger your chiller into the laser I would suggest not to use the outlets on the back of the laser.
@@oeadesignworks I just can't get my chiller to stop beeping. It's plugged into a separate extension cord.
@user-fr7wf4rn3f I would try to eliminate the extension cord if possible. But the first question is why is it beeping? Are you seeing an error code? Have you referenced the book? Did you follow the instructions in the video to set it up?
@oeadesignworks yup! I can eliminate the cord. No idea why it's beeping. It's working correctly, water is moving through the laser machine fine. I called them, this morning and they seem to think it's a defective water sensor.
Also, no error code shows on the display--just the temp.
What size tubing do I get?
the tubing should come with your laser if you order an OMtech laser. But if you need to buy tubing I have some linked here

Does the laser have to be on to setup the chiller?
no it does not.
Did you use distilled water? Anyone know if that helps keep the water/system stay clean longer?
i do use distilled water. i don't know if it helps the system from getting mold, i know some people use an algae growth inhibitor, but by using distilled you are not putting contaminants found in tap water or likewise into the system.
What size are the barbs on the back of the chiller?
8mm ID tubing should do the trick.

@@oeadesignworks I ended up emailing Omtech and they said it's 10mm. We ended up ordering one and sure enough they were 10mm
HI AS I LIVE IN HOT COUNTRY LIKE IN PH IVE EXPERINCE SOME WATER CONDENSER ON TUBE AND HOSES WHAT IS THE RECOMENDED SETTING FOR 35 DEGREES CELCIOS.
I would use the same settings as described in the video as its inportsnt to keep the tube cool. If the chiller can cool it to the set points in the video i would lower the set temp so that it works a little harder to maintain the required temp, but the best option is to get your machine into a climate controlled environment. You can also look into dehumidifiers or fans on the tube to help reduce condensation. But again, the best option is to have the machine in a climate controlled environment

@randy sarmiento you can try. But to be honest condensation issues are not something I have any problems with. Mine is in a climate controlled environment so I don't know I can be much help in this scenario

Are you talking about the hoses that connect the chiller to the laser? They don't come with the chiller but they do come with the OMtech Lasers. If you need new ones though I have a link to them here about midway down the page.
