I liked the old days with the old analog signal as well. At least you could actually get a picture with a subpar signal back then. And then sometimes the weather did some weird things to the signal as well, especially when a major storm was approaching the area
I used black and white TV all the way until 2009. I didn't care what my friends thought, they were my TV of choice. Mine was Radio Shack 7 inch. I use a tablet now and a blue tooth speaker. My roommate says I need a 65 inch but I am happy with what I have.
Seeing the dot at cut-off for many now is a thing of the past. All of my tube sets do that. I had a 62 Phillips Console with the tuner and record player one time that the screen would keep that dot a good 10 minutes sometimes. You find yourself watching it till it goes out... LOL Great video as always! Cheers! 🍻 -Al
Ho! Ho! Ho! Hey Radiotvphononut. A very special Merry Christmas to you and your family. I hope it's very special for all of you. Keep up the good work with your vintage TV's, radio's, record players, tape players, etc..😀
That needs to be the first time I've seen a turn-off dot on a Samsung picture tube. I partially reverse engineered an all-Samsung-made set with the same picture tube and they put in circuitry to cut off the beam when power is lost.
I remember when Zellers a discount department store here in Canada sold a similar TV to the KTV in the early 90s, I always found it weird how a black-and-white TV was still on the market.
we bought one of those $39.95 specials in the early 80's to take when we went camping. When not camping us kids used it for playing atari 2600 and watching other programs than what the parents wanted to watch on the "big" TV. Got plenty of use out of it until we sold it at a garage sale before moving.
When you get back to that house get your hands on that mid to late 50s metal cabinet Orca sounds like those are very good reliable sets for you to get working again
I got rid of the hum in a mains transformer on a black and white portable in the 80s by carefully removing the outer shielding and coating it's internal surface with epoxy resin then reassembling it before it was fully set . Worked a treat.
A few years back I happened to drop off some donations at a local thrift store (The Mustard Seed) and I spotted a small crt tv on top of a pile of donations. I asked how much the guy wanted for it, and he said I could have it, as this was a few years after 2009. I brought it home, and set it up, and it worked great! I suspect the TV (Sharp brand that advertised being solid state with an integrated circuit but has separate uhf and vhf knobs) might be mid to late 60s vintage.
I used to play my Nintendo on a similar black and white set back in the late 80s. I can't remember the brand name but I do remember it was from 1976. It had an intermittent vertical roll that I didn't know how to fix back then. I leaned the hard way not to be touching around inside of it with my fingers. It shocked the crap out of me. I wish I still had it.
I have this same set the KTV. I just repaired, just had a cold solder joints on the vertical circuit. Its on my channel. They seem to perform well for what they are.
2:50 yes a lovely mini console! The little B/W is nice! 18:00 Actron, right? 21:25 Many years ago I bought one of those old time TV commercials DVD's. They are entertaining and relaxing. Good musical jingles and interesting pictures and action. Basically selling good times and happiness.
Up in the finished attic which is the spare bedroom I have one of those mid 70s GE 12" tube hybrid sets hooked up to a DVD player. The set is pretty low hour and all I have done to it is clean the controls. also I had 1985 5" KTV color set with AV inputs. Unfortunately the tube was worn out and that's not common for a 5" set.
Do you do private work? I've always been impressed by your rehabs, and since my mom's death, i've got two Voice of Music turntables that nobody around here will touch,
Merry Christmas!!! Maybe I misunderstood, but I thought that I saw a brand new Newcomb School Record Player video here on Christmas Morning, Monday morning, December 25, 2023. If you did, it mysteriously disappeared. If you put this video on here, will you please repost it here on RUclips as soon as you can today, Christmas Day, Monday, December 25, 2023?
I've always wanted to put the pressure wash on dirty, dusty electronics, but was a bit leery to. Old TVs seem to be the worst. I have an old Collins radio set, and I saw someone take a garden hose to his. After that, he put the chassis in the oven at a low temperature. I didn't go that far, but I figure if you're careful, it can be done effectively.
Isn't the flyback transformer the Achilles heel of cheap TV's? How's this tv? Very interesting. Btw, I hear you about those commercials. My mute button is used more than any other.
B&W TVs were absolutely terrible by the mid to late 80s. They were the cheapest of the cheap. There just was no market for a well built feature rich B&W TV by the mid 80s. Even kid's bedrooms were starting to get small color sets by this time.
Much better than a flat screen 📺. That was quite a time before we all heard of Walmart. Even the 1985 solid state version of TV’s 📺 is better than today’s TV’s 📺. Vacuum tube is best. I remember a couple of our TV’s being vacuum tube. It was 1978. They were the better of black plastic 💩 sets. Your friend, Jeff.
Wiping thoroughly and washing your hands after a bowel movement are the two most important ways to prevent odor and the spread of pathogenic (disease-causing) bacteria. For people who have solid bowel movements, this will mean wiping with toilet tissue.

Man, I haven't seen that shutdown dot in the center of the screen in ages, good times.

Love the white dot on the pic tube at the end of the vid-lol!! Hope to see you tackle that maggot box color set soon :)
I am glad you explained the Aquadag, A lot of people have no idea about that. So thank you radiotvphononut.
I always enjoy your telling of old stories!

Has anyone ever noticed, especially dog owners, that the more you want to hear something the louder they will get? How do they know?

Are you sure the tube was worn out? Those sets did not have a black matrix picture tube so the picture looked washed out even when new!!
Do you do private work? I've always been impressed by your rehabs, and since my mom's death, i've got two Voice of Music turntables that nobody around here will touch,
Shango066 sent me.
Greetings from Cape Town.
24:30 enjoyed hearing that train horn in the background
The zenith looks like a 19ec45 or a 19fc45 chassis vertical chassis

Recessed channel knobs, interesting, never seen that before.
Interesting American accent. Which part of America are you from Tv Technician, if I may ask politely? I am from Australia.
That's a good 'ole southern accent. I believe he's in Mississippi...
Central Mississippi

I had two of these in my house as a kid
Where was the KTV set made?
Korea
Sounds like a Dog kennel, lol

Someone needs to do like a cartoon animation of your stories like the trashy women trying to buy the tv with your voice over on it.

That nicotine soot is nasty stuff.
Mmmm. Crustastic.
Or as Shango would say "Crepe-tastic"
I can't stand those Medicare supplement commercials-they make you want to take a baseball bat to the TV!
I remember this black & white TV
The noise is white.
