I just finished this job this weekend after watching your video for the first time about two years ago. First of all, it took me about 8 months to get the kit from Can-AM/BRP due to supply chain issues, but that's another story. It was hard and I'm not sure I'd want to do this again, but a couple things that others might want to note. (2016 Defender XT HD10) First, unless you have the tools for Oetiker clamps, take inventory of all the oetiker hose clamps and get stainless adjustable clamps from the hardware store. Made the job much easier. Also, make sure you have a threaded rivnut tool for M6 and possibly a 1.5" hole saw. My rivnut tool didn't have a long enough neck to fit through the holes in the plastic floor and reach the sheet metal underneath so I had to enlarge the holes with a hole saw to get clearance. I needed to extend the wiring for the 12v outlet with the new dash since it changes location from right of center to far right in the new dash (also don't forget to fish it out from behind the heater when finishing installation - not covered in the instructions!) I had a heck of a time installing the smaller ducts over the fittings - ended up having to cut the wire to stretch over the fitting and then repair with duct tape and zip ties. They should do better on this from the factory. I think I went through a half gallon of coolant even with clamping off hoses if anyone is curious. All in all - it's very cozy with the new heater and I love the factory fit and finish. Took me about 15 hours total with some breaks and trips to the store for adjustable clamps and coolant and a different Rivnut tool. Also recommend a careful hand with a dremel tool vs. using a razor blade to cut the plastic. Much safer. Good luck!
Good tips yes it's a pain. I closed the clamps with a wire cutter but the standard clamps are probably better I did have some leaking later on. I used my ratchet instead of the rivnut tool another hard deal to work around. Glad you got it done 👍
Thanks for taking time to make a video. I installed superatv unit last night everything panned out except my machine was flirting with over heating. Im going to continue to put 50/50 back into it to make sure it’s the right level, and attempt to burp the system. If you have more info on that step I’d appreciate it. Tia -Mike
Thanks for posting this heater installation video. I think I may just settle for the Super ATV heater based on price and the degree of difficulty associated with the OEM heater.
Great video, so it did take a couple of days to install after all. I am not too impressed with the amount of space that the heater unit took up next to the gas pedal. Glad I saw your video.
Great job bud! A lot of work. I would have been overwhelmed. Thanks for showing all detail. You have a beautiful machine. I have a 2021 Defender Limited on order. Can’t wait. Happy riding. 😎🙌🏼
Wow! That’s a heck of a project. Glad I don’t really need a heater here in Arizona! Doubt I’d even tackle that project if I did...I’ve added a lot of stuff to my HD8 and nothing is ever easy for me...lol. Good job!
Thank you for posting this video!! As you mentioned, it's a shame that Can-am didn't include the lower dash inserts. I am having trouble locating the dash insert for the left hand side of the heater. Could you by chance point me in the right place? I found the right side piece.
I installed a plow hydraulic rams so I can move the blade left to right. And the can am instructions really did suck like you said. The dealer wanted 8 hours to install the hydronic unit and I said no I will do it myself. It took me 3 1/2 hours with 1 hour of there bad instruction and hydraulic ram was to far extended so I had loosen the hydraulic lines so I could fit them. But my point is yes there instruction suck
Ice crusher has a can am heater with the easiest instructions u ever seen theres alot of pictures its almost full proof kit is 6 to 700 an awsome customer service
Awesome video, thanks for sharing. BTW, what windshield do you have? I noticed it was fully open during the install, yet vented 3-4 inches during your drive. I am looking for one that will do just that.
Did insurance cover your windshield? Our agent told us that we’d have to pay the deductible if we ever filed a glass claim. He said it’s not the same as a car, where glass is fully covered with no deductible.

Right on 👍
I park on a slope and make sure you're revving quite high to push through any large pockets of air. Also a short drive over bumpy terrain may help.
Thank you so much for sharing the install. My local dealer quoted $2,000 for this also.
Yeah that cost is mostly labor I think I did it in a day and a half.

thanks for the heads up on Super ATV. That may be the way I go after watching this video.

Yeah definitely encroaching the gas pedal but you get used to it pretty quick.

Yeah definitely not doing the cab build again I'll just buy a cab model!

Ya I'll never do that job again just buy the dang cab model. 😂
I am looking at this for the hinting season in Az. It gets cold and frosty in Nov/Dec elk/deer seasons
Great video, I’m in the process of doing this. Do you have a video on how to take of the fenders off? Thanks
I don't it's pretty easy you'll find the tabs and the screws holding them in. Helps to wash the wheel wells good.

There isn't one. I thought the same thing you did.

They really do suck 👉

Cool 👍

It's the Can-Am full glass windshield.
Did insurance cover your windshield? Our agent told us that we’d have to pay the deductible if we ever filed a glass claim. He said it’s not the same as a car, where glass is fully covered with no deductible.
Nope. Would have to buy a new windshield and they would reimburse me minus the deductible after I paid for the windshield in full.
Do you have a wind shield on yours?? If so how does the wind shield effect the top speed?? I have a 2021 defender max xt hd8..
I have a windshield yes. Not sure I've never gone top speed it's a work vehicle on the farm.
Does the heater work well with no doors?
Depends
So they lower dash doesn't go back in?
No you have to order a new smaller one or leave it out. I put a smaller one in.
is this system fully water proof? can it be submerged?
No you'll short it out
How the hell did you get the air tubes onto the heater....
Haha it wasn't easy bud. Mounted the vents first then had the heater close. Pulled them on hard and zip tied tight. NOT EASY
What did the OEM heater kit cost?
I don't recall maybe $2500 ish
