    this is a little personal but one of the things i love most about danny brown is the way he's one of the most outspoken allys of the lgbt community in rap. as a queer rap fan i find myself feeling ostracized a lot of the time from homophobia and transphobia that a lot of rappers possess, but danny is one of the few who really make me feel like i have a place in this community so i love him for that ❤

    • @BalloonSeasonArchive
      @BalloonSeasonArchive Год назад +93

      him & Peggy been on dat gay shit fr 🙏 Vince Staples and Kenny Beats are also great w that and take the rest of this w a bit of caution cus idk for sure for every individual person but odd future obviously, tde, dreamville and griselda are also all great collectives of lgbtq allies and fantastic artists

    • @fckle2225
      @fckle2225 Год назад +36

      @@BalloonSeasonArchive hate to ruin it for you but westside gunn is transphobic :/
      He tweeted this just a few months ago: "On another note, Kanye West is a genius/.🐐U don’t know wtf he going thru Hollywood is a sick place. I prayed for him last night he lost his mom and now his kids have to call their Grandfather ‘GrandMa’ but that’s not krazy huh?"
      it sucks cause i love gunn so much but i just have to accept shit like this as a fan of the genre. I will say though from what ive seen of the griselda community they seem cool as hell and ive seen very little homophobia/transphobia and have seen more support than a lot of rap communities which is awesome.

    • @BalloonSeasonArchive
      @BalloonSeasonArchive Год назад +9

      @@fckle2225 Jay Versace is openly gay so theres that for Griselda but damn that Gunn shit is corny af i didn’t know abt it. it’s crazy too cus like A. of all people to be transphobic about it’s like the most famous trans person??? but B. she’s also a horrible person 😭 so it’s like i get the lack of respect but it shouldn’t be on the basis of her being trans. I also don’t think he would be incapable of change, and maybe thats copium but again he is surrounded on all sides within a lot of the rap circles he’s in by people who are trans allies so i’m curious at the least to see his potential development because his music is fantastic.

    • @gunnar4915
      @gunnar4915 Год назад +15

      @@fckle2225Yeah that’s a big problem in low income communities(transphobia in general) bc of the medical process the transition requires it’s not as common place for the low income population. So many kids will grow up with misjudgments and stereotypes that the person has to either try to shake, or learn the truth through life experiences(Kendrick Lamar’s Auntie Diaries is a perfect example of this)
      So the best thing we can do is show the real side of LGBTQ community, voice your opinion like yourself and share your story, it may not open everyone’s eyes but helping one person realize that their idea of the LGBTQ is wrong, is a huge step forward imo

    • @BalloonSeasonArchive
      @BalloonSeasonArchive Год назад +12

      @@fckle2225 i just looked into it a bit the wsg shit was three years ago. that doesn’t mean he’s learned, or maybe he just learned to shut up.. but Lil B used to b transphobic and has since went on to become a very significant trans ally in hip hop, that is to say it’s certainly not impossible for wsg to grow as a person from then but also not who knows. I think Freddie Gibbs is still transphobic probably. Maybe all bald people,have like a mushroom-esque brain web cus Dave Chappell really was out of his bag on that shit that he like quadrupled down on 😭

    Earl's verse on Really Doe is so good, but his more recent stuff has a way different vibe that's also great. He's really nailed saying a lot in a short space of time. Lot of short introspective songs.

    Dive into the lyrics even more when y’all have a chance. All of Dance in the water is actually a metaphor disguised as a twerk anthem. It’s not him encouraging a girl, rather it’s his conscious under the influence encouraging him to push himself to the max. If you notice, he never actually mentions a woman or anything sexual. Just lyrics that could easily be interpreted as a twerk anthem. Essentially, It’s his conscious telling him that he can continue dancing in the water without getting wet. Basically, living in excess and not facing the consequences. It’s basically a deep dive into someone caught up in the whirlwind when abusing drugs and not caring about the aftermath. Also there’s just crazy imagery across the whole album:
    “Octopus in a straight jacket, savage with bad habits.”
    “Staring in the devil’s face but you can’t stop laughing.”
    Literally all of Downward Spiral and Get Hi.
    Loved the review!

    Like a typical pale skinned individual, I often credit Tyler the Creator for getting me into hip hop fr back in 2013. But honestly, Atrocity Exhibition was the first album I heard in the genre that truly blew me away and led me down the rabbit hole back in 2016.

    Will it sound good without JPEG? I'd say yes. JPEG himself thought it was so good that he continues to cite Danny as an influence to this day, even though they're now buddies and worked together.
    Probably why they work so well together. Peggy knew Danny long before he ever met him. Though to be fair, this is like, a national-treasure-level album as far as experimental hip-hop goes. EVERYBODY who makes the stuff knows and learns a little something from Danny Brown albums. Like, so much of it just sounds like this lol.
