Whether a book is new or old, I can never bring myself to destroy it for crafting or any other reason.
I am a book lover and some books have issues beyond repair. I don't mind seeing those repurposed. I just hate seeing a vintage book in good shape torn apart.
When I was a little girl we moved to Tennessee for a while. My mother shared her love of American history with me and we went to Lookout Mountain and the Chickamauga battle fields. There used to be a picture of me sitting on one of the canons that got lost in a move long ago.
The Happy Apple
OMG! You’re in MY honey hole!! 3 blocks from my house!! 😮
As long as an item isn't sent to the landfill! When someone wants to create something else or resell as is, that isn't any of my business and I wish them well. I reuse old books and their papers in my own mixed media art but it is in an attempt to save something that would otherwise be thrown away. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder! OR one person's trash is another's treasure!
Definitely repurpose those vintage books and ephemera to give them a new life. The graphics are amazing.
Thank you Misty for going slow enough for me to see everything. I feel like I'm shopping with you. I really love how you talk to us like we're there with you. I wish there were flea markets where I live.
I'm so glad!
Totally agree.
I had a Holly Hobby lunch box and a Holly Hobby oven instead of the Betty Crocker ovens that my friends had.
I would never tear a book apart, I love books 😊😊
I use old books in junk journaling only when they show wear and are falling apart. If there’s damage, why not reinvent them for personal gifts that might last for generations 😊👍 Also, the times we leave things behind that we regret are so frustrating, but we’re at least not alone! 😄. Been there, had no idea how much I would love Sewing Susan 😉
I used Hap Palmer records years ago when I taught kindergarten! “This is a song about colors, colors! You see them all around…” Brought back great memories, but showing my age!! Lol!
Omg the Peter Cottondale cover!! I used to be afraid of my record when the farmer came out to shoot at peter!
That "Baby Claps" sounded like the "Terminator!"
Whisper, whisper! Love you and it!! I still have the FP Apple, given to my grandson, was my sons! Loved OH NO MR BILL!
OK wait a minute ... did you say your pre school teaching days? If so, it's crazy because I've always thought you would be a great teacher because you're animated, energetic and seem to get a lot of joy out of the little characters on books, albums, dolls, etc. I feel like you would be good at keeping lil young'uns engaged and I was especially thinking it while watching tonight. If you really WERE a teacher that's crazy, and I totally had you pegged!! 😂
I loved teaching the little ones! I miss it often. SOME parts I miss!
I like your glasses, Misty they're fabulous
Where did you get your glasses? Love them!
Oh thank you!
Zeelool
Dancing Bear
I think they called the bear on Captain Kangaroo Mr. Bear. It is because of this show I love Grandfather clocks so much.
I totally had the Holly Hobbie lunchbox.
ONLY,if the book is in bad shape, and if it is not one I am looking for,
I love the wooden drawers. My husband would love ❤️ that.
Always fun watching Misty. Interesting and nostalgic items.
Thanks so much! 😊
Great prices on those books you picked up!
Whoopsie Baby Doll … with the moving pigtails 💕
YES!!!!
Captain kangaroos bears name is dancing bear💞
That wooden thing / box at the beginning was very cool
I regret not buying it! I liked it too!
Couldn't say it any better than Jayne Litterick said it. I totally agree about reusing books & such.
Use to watch Captain Kangaroo wvery morning before school. 🥰
You should get a snow baby for Ann!
I love books❤❤❤❤❤ too
The Happy Apple is a great sensory toy. I always buy them. It’s ok to craft with old books but you can also copy onto scrapbook paper and reuse.
Misty, enjoying this video. If you go back and the book, Year 1949, is still there, I would be interested in it. I love history. All the books you bought are just great. I cannot understand how people can throw books away. So glad you saved them! Have a great time in California! ❤️
I've purchased 2 novelty monkey and cow round double ringer alarm clocks simply for the silly hoo hoo ha ha scream and moo noises the alarms make. Neither works, I just push the manual alarm button once in a while for sheets and giggles 😃
I so love your videos Misty! Your the greatest ❤. You come across so many fun things I remember growing up. I think Cpt. kangaroos bear was called “ Dancing Bear”!? I always watched that show! My favorite places you go to is those “Dig” around places! You bring a lot of us right into the shopping experience! Thank you! I spend a lot of day in my room watching fun RUclips videos, since I can’t go out much do to a chronic condition I have. You always put a smile on my face! And for that I am blessed . Take care my dear. May your sales be high and your year be full of happy moments
Thank you so much Karen! I'm glad I can add a little bit of fun to your day! You are very kind!
Typically thrift stores or indoor flea market vendors are on target.
Sellers look up stuff before pricing.
Rent needs to get paid so deals are scarce.
But you never know so we go!
Thanks for posting!
Love watching you shop, I hoping that you would find a diamond in the rough🤷 Never know. 💓
Captain Kangaroo's bear was Dancing Bear. I can't wait until we come home to Indiana this summer and my sister - in - law and I are going to hit all your thrifting sites! Laughed out loud at your whole shelf of "NO." And just curious, did you film during your amazing Squishmallow haul?
Hey Misty enjoyed shopping 🛒 with you so much fun 🤩 I like the wooden box with the 2 drawers, snow ❄️ baby lamb & chicks, the tiny wooden people, the Christ child and the Captain 👨✈️ Kangaroo 🦘 puzzle 🧩 brought back childhood memories of watching it on TV 📺. It is fun to shop when you have to dig for treasures never know what can be 🫣
You made me laugh when you played with the dolls 😂🤣
Thank you 🤗
I want that Chip and Dale record!
That was a teachers old collection of records. Love Hap Palmer too.
I think the bear was Dancing Bear.
Cracking me up today! “A xylophone. I’m not allowed to have that!” Lol! I had that Burl Ives Chip and Dale record and remember getting some of the other ones out of the library! Love junky places like that with hidden treasures!
That snow baby lamb was darling. I love wooden pieces like you picked up too!
Thank you! 😊
I live in Tennessee and the tecumseh cards lol. I worked at that factory for years before they shut down.
2nd comment- that “Year 1949” book would be such a great gift for someone who was born in 1949. I personally would thoroughly enjoy reading a book highlighting the year I was born😊
I remember that apple!
In response to your comment about finding the good stuff at first in malls and flea markets- I think there is something to that and I think it is because the sellers who have been there the longest have the prime locations in the front. In the mall where I have a booth, we all started farther back in the mall, but as the good locations opened up we were able to move into them. The long-term sellers understand what sells and at what price, so they fill their booths with those things. The new sellers will learn, but it takes a while for them to find the product niche that works for them.
Traderbaker's in Martinsville - all the good stuff is on the right side. I can't comment on the others.
I enjoyed going with you to the indoor flea market...I am noticing the things you are interested in..the books, memorabilia...I wonder how much you keep for your enjoyment?
Too much!! Lol!
😃mr. Bill. The love statue is in the center of philly. The artist not sure
At 9:26...I HAD THAT EXACT EARRING TREE!!!! OMG!
My dad's cousin's husband created Grapette soda. There's currently a Grapette museum in Camden Arkansas that I hope to visit. The stuff you're looking at is really neat.
I loveeee books, especially vintage children’s book. But I will use the ones that are falling apart for my junk journaling. Makes me happy. Always enjoy your videos!!💛
My Grandparents had that same book 1949. I always enjoyed looking at it and they let me take it home, it fit perfectly on my lap for me to do my homework on. Memories♥️♥️♥️
I always start on the right and I usually have more luck! I enjoy your videos!
Clown, animals and Bill o my😆🙃😉...I found a couple of those small ceramic jars with lid... Didn't know that you put oils in them, thanks for mentioning that👍👍✌️✌️☮️☮️
Dancing Bear....he was my first love!
Awe!!
The LOVE original was in Indy. Think he from here? Better to rescue into something than to trash in landfill. Putting together earring singles to do something with. Let me know when u come north to the castle of green...
Cool old store
I love using vintage books that are in bad condition, I repurpose them, decoupage stuff, scrapbooking, collage,,so fun 😄
Love the snow babies.
I loved the snow baby lamb and chick! I have a small collection that my husband has given me as gifts. I know they don’t hold their value but I love them anyway.
I think by the time we get to the end lap we are suffering from over stimulation of the senses lol. And as far as using the pages of a book, if if it's in disrepair and can be repurposed into something to be loved and enjoyed again I say yes go for it.
Dancing bear
Dancing Bear.
It just seems like a Captain Kangaroo puzzle should include ping-pong balls in the box.
OMG your glasses ate the bomb!!!
The pigtail doll was called Whoopsie. Great video Misty!!
Yes! Thank you!
Definitely good to repurpose vintage books😊
I think so too!
Hodgepodge
My cousin had that cat clock when we were kids. I used to scare her with it...
Please go left if you go in our vintage mall. Both our booths are on the left 😊
I love the stuff you get Misty !
Sweet little Easter figures ... those little cordial glasses are really pretty too
Always fun keeping you company as you shop. 😊
So many different things!
Seeing Trader’s through your eyes is so fascinating!
I'm in the Traderbakers in Washington Indiana and they have great stuff all the way throughout!
Lol I think you were searching for hodgepodge. We could hobnob about it before we play hopscotch 😂. We used to play Hap Palmer for my preschool special needs kids. He was the best.
I do like the books intact but it's fine to use for projects as well if it's saving some part of the pages. Even just the book jacket or outside book. I love the kitsch, ephemera, paperdolls, all doll cases, valentine cards, tins, cute light up signs for ads. Thanks Misty!❤🐭🐰🐭🐰😁
hodgepodge. I draw in old books. I like old stamp album paper. it is fun! thanks Misty x
My baby photos have that fisher price apple in them!!! Fun shopping trip.
I am a big book lover especially of a particular topic and very small group of authors. I can certainly understand wanting to remove artwork from an older, damaged book to frame and display. At the same time it would feel weird to do it. I guess, depending on the book, it's condition, and the care given to how it was done, I would be fine with it.
Someone might be preserving the pages if it was done with care. I could also understand an artist using bits of pages for a piece if it was done with care.
I have the little football player sugar shaker in my kitchen window. It was my mother’s and I can’t remember her not having it. Still using it.
I would have enjoyed having you as a teacher. My first grade teacher was old, mean, and frightened me. My second grade teacher had purple hair and was mean and my third grade teacher had red hair but was nicer. Surprised I did not become a drop out. That was an interesting plunder trip!
Hodge podge...I think that's the term you were thinking of 😥😆
I loved that store. Thank-You for bringing us along. About your question on using pages of a book, I think if the book is beyond repair yes but I am a book lover so I don't even like to see people "dog ear" pages in a book. Happy shopping.
I hate it when there's no price on something I want!!!
Moose name on cpt.kangeroo was Mr. Bear
The moose and the bear were two different characters
We had to have book covers on our school books. We used grocery paper bags. We were recycling and didn’t know it. I do junk journaling and paper crafts. I think it is rescuing precious memories that would otherwise be discarded. ❤️❤️ The snow baby lamb and chick would be perfect for Easter.I watched the video for the second time. WHAT DID YOU MISS?? I must have missed it too.
If scrapbooking can save ephemera from the trash, I'm all in favor!
Dancing Bear was on Captain Kangaroo. Variety and digging are fun, but can be tedious too if it's a lot of newer stuff and clothes!
is it a Hodge Podge ? I remember Mr. Bill! , when SNL was young and now i am dating myself LOL. I have sold Snowbabies. I try to find the Xmas ones where the babies are dressed in red, they are hard to find, I have always wanted one of those cat clocks
There was a study that something like 92% of people come into a store and head to the right when they have an option of going left or right. So, the “good stuff” or “sale” stuff tends to be on the right. I read that somewhere while I was researching how to sell the most stuff in a booth. Eye level and to the right, if possible…. 🤷🏽♀️
Interesting, thank you!
That was fun!🥰
It's hodge podge of stuff.
Dancing bear
Until you get to the end of store you are on overload so things don't look as good. Also I loved the curved wooden two drawer box at beginning. Great video...
Books that are in bad condition are great for junk journaling. Repurposed and enjoyed in many ways. You are so funny and enthusiastic! Have a great successful 2023!
So true!
Loved that snowbaby lamb. Hope you decided on it. It would look so cute in a Spring assemblage.
I remember wanting that "Whoopsie" doll with the little pigtails that flip up and down. I got a Madame Alexander "Pussycat" doll for Christmas instead.
(I got to pick the hair and eye color and my mom put her on lay a way).
Love the little wooden people that you got, too. They were a great deal.
The store I have booths in was bought out by Traders over a year ago. They have kept the original name of Gizmos however. I have been happy so far- they have a stronger social media presence and have fun events for the customer.
If the book is all messed up I don’t mind using pages. I will not tear up a book.
Glad to see you are feeling better. I love your videos!
Thank you so much!
