    I thought the story of how they both got started, then met and fell into the cruising life was shared with genuine sincerity and very pleasant to follow and the owner did a nice job giving a complete but relaxed view of the boats attributes. Wishing them success and happiness in there future endeavors. Great name BTW and yes its time to abandon the house and couch and escape. If only I could......Thanks.

    I don't have the desire to sail long voyages to tropical destinations....I enjoy flying to them, renting a car and exploring. I do however love small sailing adventures! Having sold my very simple, very awesome O'day 272 (see my vids). I thought it would be easy to find a modern year 2000+ 32 footer for around $35-50,000 USD. It hasn't been easy or fun and it's discouraging and I'm thinking maybe just give up. After hearing this couple talk about life I think I'll continue in the right direction. Thanks!

    Darn, I'm based in Chiang Mai during the cold winter months in Canada and was just down the Ocean Marina Yacht Club in Jomtien last week looking to get introduced to the sailing world. Not really much chance to interact with the owners given the layout.

      I'm based in Chiang Mai all year. In my previous life I spent a lot of time sailing including a Newport Bermuda race on A J44, 4 trips to the Caribbean from NY on a J160 or Swan 56. I was lucky enough to do a sailboat delivery from Cambodia to Ocean Marina YC. Unfortunately I was too busy helping with a refit and did not have enough to to mingle with other sailors. I would also like to interact with more sailors in Thailand.

      @@kimejenks6702 So tempting, Kim. How much would you need per month to live on the boat in Thailand? $150 for the slip, phone, food, entertainment, etc... I KNOW you can REALLY rough it, or go crazy but if possible, can you give a rough monthly estimate since you've (I assume) been there for a while?
      I plan on coming to the sailing school there in a year or 2 once I get my land bound life buttoned up here.

    • @kimejenks6702
      @kimejenks6702 5 лет назад +3

      @@Chris-zo5ze it really depends on how you eat and drink. phones service is super cheap, like $10 a month, I don't really eat Thai food so our food bill is higher than if we ate the local food, which most people love. beers are $1.50-2 at a shop, $20 a case and more in a restaurant. if I didn't have a job, I would probably eat different, not so much cheese. 250g of cheese is almost $7, that's half a pound. Bread is $2 a loaf, fruit and veg are super cheap. you can go out to a nice dinner with a few drinks 2 people for 1000B, that's less than $30. I good quick snack, 500B for 2 - 15$ and of course the $5 for two still exists with street food and local Thai places. Malaysia is even cheaper, the Philippines very cheap as well and Indonesia is right down the way. You can get away with living for less than $500.month. I was doing that for 2 people at some points in the journey but I pay close attention to spending. we still had some beers and that's the biggest expense, if you don't drink, it's really cheap and you can get buy on just a few hundy a month.

      I have to disagree, if I paid for airfare to only half of the places i've seen, hotels, rooms, taxi, boat trips, eating out, I wouldn't have made it past Tahiti. Proper maintenance and upkeep prevent big issues and it's cheap if you know how to do it yourself. All of the Sea of Cortez, Marquesas, Tuomotus, Tahiti, Moorea, Raiatea, Tahaa, Bora Bora, Suvarov, American Samoa, Tonga, Fiji, Vanuatu (an island there are no tours to get there), Solomon Islands, Papua New Guinea, Palau, many island in the Philippines, Borneo, Peninsular Malayasia and Thailand. Add up that airfare and a month of hotels in each place, not including any food or entertainment or the experience of being totally free. I've done it, have you? It's not that expensive, I didn't have much when I left and I have a lot left over.
