To what extent are the failings at the top of the church a class issue? Those who get to the top tend to be upper class people who have navigated various institutions throughout their life - seems to me this might help encourage people who take the easy path in order to keep other higher ups happy. I’m not saying all upper class people are morally inferior to people from other backgrounds but it strikes me that many of the people who have taken a stand against institutional power in britain in recent years have been lower down the pecking order. They have less to lose and a different milieu to please than people who have spent their lives navigating the heights of power
I thought this might be an interesting discussion, but within 5 minutes I hear a ridiculous and uncharitable denunciation of David Bentley Hart, with a particular reference to his correct translation of a Koine Greek word. You may prefer the English word eternal, but that comes from an inadequate Latin translation from the Greek and I suspect you prefer it because it better supports your theological position - the very thing you are accusing DBH of doing. So, as they say in Dragons Den, for that reason I'm out.
I said that the translation reflects his own theological bias. I never said eternal didn’t reflect somebody else’s. I’m a massive fan of DBH hence my use of his translation. I disagree on some things obviously but I was in no way denouncing him. J
@@irreverendfaithandcurrenta1843 It was the attitude of your interlocutor, Tom Pelham, I was addressing. I should have made myself clearer, but I was irritated and didn't hang around to hear any more. If he's going to be a bit prickly with people he doesn't like then he could at least make it entertaining like DBH. I'll always stay for a good bon mot no matter how acerbic.
Best wishes
He’s the establishment and WEF man, him and the “king” are tasked with destroying Christianity.

Welby failed at every turn , he wallowed in virtue signalling and forget what his calling was all about.

I cannot tell if this is serious or parody.
