@@dahVEEDBBone Hey David ! Those are not available on my website since they are just transcriptions of the original horn parts that I made specifically for this video ( while the sheet music I sell consists of complete horn arrangements of entire songs )
As a French horn player watching you move so much while playing is giving me a mixture of anxiety, anger, and frustration. You're very good though wow.
how else are you supposed to play?? I could never imagine not moving with the music. Maybe it's the marching band experience, but I think if you sit still while playing music it's unnatural.
Lovely collection Marc, and I appreciate your slick editing and presentation! Those Beatles tracks are personal favourites, but I adore horn solos whenever they pop up in classic rock!
No wonder why there is not even one dislike. You are a very talented musician. Who would ever have thought of playing those songs in the french horn? It's an amazing idea and of course the performance is perfect!
According to Ian McDonald's Revolution in the Head, the track may have been varispeeded, meaning that Civil played it in a slightly lower key. But it's still high, no doubt.
@@Marc_Papeghin legend has it that alan civil made it up on the spot, only did one take, and told the beetles to f off when they wanted to do a few more takes. What a legend
Thank you. We attend the Mountain West Basketball tournament every year in Las Vegas, and this year (last week) we noticed that the Fresno State Pep Band employed a French Horn. We started looking at every band's brass section and they were the only ones utilizing one. I don't know what pieces they play that would need one, but we immediately started thinking of French horns used in pop songs. Two immediately came to mind: The opening of "Didn't I Blow Your Mind" by the Delfonics, and Roger Whittaker's beautiful song "Last Farewell", where it is prominently used. Sam Cooke's "Cupid" uses it extensively also. A beautiful instrument it is, and as I've stated elsewhere, it's akin to the caviar spoon of a table setting. One to be appreciated by the most experienced and discerning of palates. :)
Lol my experience with French horn in pop/rock music is that weird guy, in the music video of happy together (from the turtles), that is just jumping around with a french horn, not even doing anything XD. But this video introduced me to a lot of other beautyfull songs that i didn't know about, Thank you!!! Ps: great transitions!
Thanks !! This one was quite challenging transition-wise since all of the songs have a different production, orchestration etc.. but I love these kinds of puzzles 😊
@@Marc_Papeghin Btw I got another question, in the discription you wrote down the songs with the original horn player, right? And the last one says you name, are you the original horn player of that song?? Because that's really cool!!
Man, what can i say ... You're a Genius, really, and i don't tell this because i know you since 10 years and worked / played with you ! Did you noticed that on almost all of the songs, they sound better with you on them ? some of them are iconic historic song, but... clearly, they sound so much better today with you on them ahahah !! I must admit that i hoped to hear you playing (f** i'm now one of this guy who tell "why you didn't played my favorite tune ??" ahahha lol) the synth horns part of a so called tune where the rains down in a so called continent from the south ;) ). Peace Bro !! and Congrats once again ! (thanks for the link of 1m1 at the end ;) ).
Haha well this video focuses only on solos played by real french horns ! If I did one to cover all the cool synth horn parts it sure would be muuuch longer than 5 minutes :p And thanks dude !!
@@Marc_Papeghin ahah well, i apologize, (i suck... really) i didn't know these tunes had french horn on it lol... (i don't even remember sergent peppers :( ).
Marvelous. I like this warm sound of the horn, and that was really good played on this difficult instrument. I salute you for it. One more songs with the horn is Wonderful Land from Mike Oldfield. The original from The Shadows has a horn too, but it's more in the backround. And maybe, I'm not sure, Shine Silently from Nils Lofgren. What I like "Royal Philharmonic Orchestra Plays Prince - Diamond And Pearls". The Horns stands more in the foreground than in other "classical" pop covers. As we say in Germany "They are bearing elements". :-)
@@Marc_Papeghin You are welcome and thanks for your answer. I've heard another song in the radio in the 70's. It's "Theme from a summer place" from Percy Faith & his Orchestra. The song is from 1959 but still good. Best wishes from Germany
Neal's easily one of my favorite musicians/composers of all time ! I've made several covers of his music and also had the pleasure to work for him in several occasions :) ruclips.net/video/VdEgm_wYMGs/видео.html
Very nice! How often/long do you recommend to practice per week? Every day for a short time or longer sessions but not so often? I wanna build up such a nice high register aswell! Very good job :D
Mmmh, truth is I couldn't give you a true answer for that cause I haven't really "practiced" in years ^^ I do play a LOT though ! I developped my high range by playing stuff that wasn't written for the horn ( like violin, piano concertos, guitar solos etc ) When you try and play stuff that isn't part of the horn repertoire, you get out of your comfort zone and your technique will have to evolve in order to play those new pieces ! At least that's how it worked for me ;)
@@Marc_Papeghin I learned so many new techniques when I rewrote duets for horn and trombone. Trying to match the sounds was incredibly hard, but we practiced so much, I ended up sounding more like a trombone and he sounded more like the french horn, haha. My high range was not as powerful as yours sounds. I'm impressed!
Hi Marc! Love your videos- I've been watching them since I started horn! :) Would you consider Frank Sinatra's music jazz or pop? If pop, then we could add some Vince DeRosa songs to your list of horn solos in pop songs! Also I think I saw a horn player playing on a Lone Bellow live performance video, but I'll comment with the link if I can find it!
Hey Olivia ! Thanks for your kind words :) And yes we could totally add Vince's solos on Sinatra songs in there ! The list is actually open to any horn solos in songs, no matter the music genre :)

I’ve been a guitarist for 64 years now ( playing badly) . The French horn makes the hair on my arms stand on end.
Beautiful
you never fail to amaze me. i watch every video in awe of your talent.
Whoa it goes really high in For No One 😱
Oh yes it does !! As you know french horn parts rarely go that high ^^

Had to rehearse that one, it's not that easy ^^
